Definitely an old town, but a lot of criticism. Weird restroom design, I can't turn around every time, I don't believe it after reading the reviews, it's really inconvenient, I will regret it if I try it! Don’t decide! All the service staff were unenthusiastic, and the breakfast was pitiful. It consisted of a glass of orange juice, a cup of tea, a recipe for eggs, a cold dish of cheese and ham, and 2 slices of bread! Chinese people absolutely can’t stand it, there are no vegetables and fruits! The three-star hotels nearby all have a breakfast buffet! There are no bathroom mats, no trash cans, and no free bottled water in the room. The price is 4🌟standard 1800 per night! No need to! In addition, the elevator was fast on the first day. After complaining, the elevator was fine but made loud noises and vibrations! There is a bar downstairs and it is noisy until 1 o'clock! The front desk didn't know anything about it. I didn't know how to get to the bus station! No training at all! Absolutely amazing! The bathroom products are expired. Who are we fooling? You thought the terrace restaurant was awesome, sorry! Not open! Don’t decide! We deserve better service and quality!

There is a bar downstairs that opens from 9 to 1, which made it impossible to sleep. The breakfast was good, but the night staff did not speak English.

The room is ok, the inside of the ancient city can’t be compared with the outside of the city, but it’s really convenient, the service staff are pretty good, the facilities are average, but sufficient, if you want convenience and a leisurely stroll, you must live in the ancient city, it’s a different feeling!

In the ancient city, the location is very good. The car can only be parked outside the city, and it is a bit tiring to drag a big box, but fortunately it is not far away.

When we checked in, the water heater was broken and there was no hot water. The hotel is in an ancient town, and the pub next to it is very noisy at night with many young people drinking and chatting. The room style is very retro, and the service attitude is okay

This classy-hip hotel is on everyone's list, and I had a ok experience here. The decoration of the hotel is tasteful, but not always thoughtful (for example, the reading light in the living room is not over anywhere you'd sit; the bedroom light switch is in the hallway, not anywhere you can reach from the bed; the sink has a faucet that is in your way when you try to wash your face). The bed is comfortable. The main issue for me is that the hotel (both room and common area) is very dark (likely every hotel in old town is the same, as buildings are an arm's length from each other), and there is no comfortable outdoor (or just well-lit) space where you can hang out. Yes, there is a rooftop, but that's a restaurant: you can't just hang out there without purchasing (which you cannot sign to the room). The main reason for the three (rather than 4/5) star is the day-time receptionist. She basically acted like she really wished she wouldn't be bothered by guests. Every time I passed by the reception, she was either not there or on her cell phone. The one time I asked her a question about buses to Perast, she was most impatient and pretty much rolled her eyes. When I left the hotel she made no pretense she was going to help with luggage or even open the door: she just sat with her bottom glued to her seat. She needs to get a non-customer-facing job. She had the worst attitude of anyone I had encountered in my six days in Montenegro.

There was a nightclub/bar directly outside the hotel that blasted music until 1am 7 days a week, this made sleeping impossible add on top of that hearing every single thing outside the room including the cleaner waking us up at 7am each morning. No curtains in the room so no privacy, wifi constantly disconnecting, breakfast wasn't great. Honestly for the price this is the worst hotel I've stayed at and I've stayed at many. I'd expect to pay 1/3 of the price I paid, please read the recent reviews and avoid this place I wouldn't want other travellers to experience this.

My boyfriend and I had planned to stay at the hotel for four days. However, we encountered several issues. The receptionist seemed annoyed during check-in, and once in the room, we found that the air conditioning and TV were not working correctly. Moreover, the room was infested with bugs, including large ones in the toilet and one falling onto my boyfriend's head from the old ceiling. The hotel's location on top of a nightclub playing loud 90's music was also aggravating (forget about sleeping at night). Adding to all this, the bed sheets were filthy and had bedbugs. We decided to leave after only 8 hours and move to a 5-star hotel outside the old town, costing us 800 euros and a vacation day. Although a staff member at the reception expressed understanding and said he would see what he could do, we did not receive any refunds. It was a terrible experience, and I strongly advise against booking this hotel. I recommend the Hyatt or the Huma Bay if you are looking for alternatives.

Nightclub in the street below the bedroom windows every night - NO mention of this on booking. NO mention of this on arrival at hotel. This is advertised as a boutique luxurious private living - none of this matters if you cannot sleep. Location seems great and there is no indication that a pop up nightclub will start every night. Hotel decor black and gold. Shower poor. Room safe not nailed to wall. Stone stairs have an awkward top step from one angle, making them dangerous and nothing is done to ensure this is made safe (even though I have now seen it on other reviews now). Even found the noise on a few reviews - this noise is just unfair to a hotel with sleeping guests.

We are staying at the Hippocampus currently. The location is in the heart of the old town, perfect for exploring this wonderful town. Rooms are clean and spacious . There is a power failure across Montenegro, Croatia and Albania, the staff are so helpful and apologetic even though it isn’t their fault . If I returned to Kotor I would definitely stay at this boutique hotel

Very friendly staff and the perfect location to stay except……..1) nightclub next door speaker faces hotel so hopeless to sleep until after they close at 0100 hrs 2) no TV Chanel’s 3) stairs between floors dangerous to the fact we both fell by missing a step on the top where there also no handrail☹️. Perfect place to stay in the centre of the old town however would not stay there again.

We stayed in Room 202 - a King sized Bed Suite with Balcony and Living Room. It’s a good sized room for Old Town Kotor. Enter thru North Gate - walk about 5 min and you already there. We arrived early because of our flight. Our room wasn’t ready yet. However by 11 am, it was ready and we were grateful to checkin early and catch up on sleep. Thank you! Pro: Location is superb - within the Old Town. Staff are super friendly. Simple Breakfast (Eggs, Local Breads, Cheese, Ham) are included. Cons: As others have mentioned, there is a loud Bar next to it. So if you’re early sleeper, you might not be able to fall asleep right away.

Disgraceful customer service at this establishment! We had a July 2022 reservation that had to be cancelled due to contracting COVID. The hotel issued us a 495 Euro credit at that time with no expiration date. We just tried to rebook for June of 2024 and were told, on the phone, that the hotel is no longer honoring COVID credits. I explained that no expiration date was noted in the original credit and was told to follow up via email with the hotel . Sent multiple emails, all of which were ignored. They should be ashamed of themselves for handling this so poorly. There are plenty of beautiful places to stay in Kotor - do yourself a favor and don't patronize an establishment that operates so poorly.

This review is simply to refer that my wife and I had a lovely time at the Rooftop Cafe/Bar of Hotel Hippocampus. We did not stay there, but the proprietors welcomed us as the only customers on the rooftop. The service was excellent as was the cappuccino. Seating was comfy and light blankets were available at each table.
