"Cleanliness (minor issue): While the room itself was clean, it felt very damp upon entering, and there was a distinct musty odor. Thankfully, this dissipated after I ran the air conditioning for a bit.
There were four pillows on the bed – some soft ones and some medium-firm, possibly buckwheat, pillows. One of the medium-firm pillows, however, smelled absolutely horrific, like it hadn't been changed after countless sweaty guests. This really made me question the hotel's hygiene standards. I've since stayed at other hotels that also provide these medium-firm pillows, and none of those had any odor.
Location: The location is incredibly convenient. To reach Kumamon Square, you'll need to take the tram, which costs roughly 9 RMB per ride. Kumamoto Castle is visible as soon as you get off, and the hotel is just across the shopping street. Tsuruya Department Store is also within a 10-minute walk. Within a 5-minute radius, you'll find a 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, drugstores, and numerous eateries – essentially everything you'd need for a trip to Kumamoto is right here.
If you're not planning to be out exploring from dawn till dusk every day, I highly recommend staying here as everything you need is readily available. However, if your itinerary involves extensive JR travel from early morning until late at night, then staying closer to Kumamoto Station would be more advisable."
