"The sea view is unbeatable, and it's a 5-6 minute walk from the station. They offer a shuttle service to the station upon checkout, by appointment. A centipede ran into my room... but they changed my room when I requested it, which was fine. I stayed for three days, and the breakfast was decent. The service was typical Japanese, meaning you couldn't really find any fault with it. The biggest surprise was on the day of checkout: there was a huge typhoon in Izu, all trains were stopped. While we were feeling helpless at the station, a hotel front desk staff member arrived! They told us that because we had previously booked a shuttle, they were taking us to the larger Izu-Kogen station! I was so touched! That's truly Japanese service, solving an urgent problem! Overall, it was really good!"

"Many posts on Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) offer mixed reviews for this onsen hotel, so I really needed to experience it for myself. The hotel's surroundings are absolutely stunning – incredible sea views and top-notch service. There are both indoor and outdoor hot springs; soaking in them while looking at the moon and facing the ocean would probably be even more beautiful in winter. This time, I stayed on the seventh floor. It was a bit old but clean. On the sixth floor, the Tingtao Pavilion provides complimentary drinks and snacks all day, perfect for relaxing. The breakfast buffet also boasts unbeatable sea-view seating. The only downside is the inconvenient transportation. You absolutely must catch the hotel's shuttle bus before 5 PM. We arrived at the JR station after 7 PM, tried various apps to hail a taxi without success, and were about to push our luggage and walk when we fortunately encountered a passing taxi. Otherwise, it would have been a long trek up and down hilly roads."

"This was my first time staying at a hot spring hotel, and choosing Atagawa-kan on my first day in Izu, Japan, was the best decision ever. I booked two nights for just over 800 (yen/yuan) a night, and the service was attentive and detailed. The ocean looked beautiful and serene during the pre-dawn blue hour. The outdoor onsen offered stunning panoramic views of the sea. There's an ice cream shop on the first floor; I highly recommend trying the Japanese yuzu flavor – it's delicious. Next to the hotel, there's a restaurant that's convenient, tasty, and affordable. By 6 PM, it's completely dark, and there are very few people on the streets, making it incredibly peaceful and quiet – perfect for a leisurely stay. Most places here close around 8 PM. I love Izu; visiting during the off-season was a fantastic experience."

"During check-in, the ********* woman provided a very detailed explanation and communicated well in Mandarin. The hotel room wasn't particularly beautiful, but it was just right. The breakfast was delicious and generous. The staff were all very friendly. The hotel's ocean-view hot springs are beautiful. Although the weather prevented us from enjoying the best views, the view from our room was still excellent."

All rooms feature natural hot spring open-air baths, assisting you in enjoying the luxury of doing nothing. A hotel in Izu Okawa, offering exquisite guest room open-air baths and scenic views. The hot water in the room's open-air bath is filled to the brim, with steam rising abundantly. All baths in the facility use 73.3-degree natural hot spring water drawn from the on-site well, with each room uniquely featuring bathtubs made of cypress or Izu stone. Meals include carefully selected ingredients such as seafood from Izu, chicken from Fujinomiya, and rice from Niigata. Immerse yourself in the hot spring and enjoy moments of delight with flavorful cuisine.

"This place is located at Izu-Ōkawa Station, which is a bit off the beaten path for a transport hub in the East Izu area. The hotel offers a shuttle service, which you can book in advance via email or phone. The front desk has a ********* lady who speaks Chinese and is very helpful, answering any questions you might have. The food is quite good, and there are two large outdoor private onsens where you can see stars on a clear night. However, if you want to see a lot of stars, you should head to Ōshima or a nearby island. The room size is standard; in Japanese-style rooms, staff will lay out futons as there are no beds. The tatami mats are very new and have that unique new tatami smell. The private onsen in the room is also nice for a soak. If you're interested, there's also a wild hot spring by the sea – just Google it. You'll find a Lawson convenience store a short walk along the coastline. Overall, apart from the slightly remote location, there aren't any major drawbacks."

"We reserved tatami room for one night. It was a bit hard to drive here as we need to drive through mountains. However, the room was so clean, and the service was so good. The dinner was served in traditional Japanese style, it was excellent and super delicious. The hot springs were lovely and privately designed, so cozy especially after a long day driving. Recommend!"

"The most satisfying living experience in Japan. The balcony faces the entire sea. The room is spacious, with plenty of space and a beautiful view. The service is very considerate. Before checking in, I sent an email to ask if there are any requirements for dinner. After arriving at the store, all employees will bow and make way when they see you. Even your shoes will be specially stored from the moment you enter the store. You only need to wear slippers throughout the hotel. There are many baths, and there are six or seven private baths. There are even garden paths on the fourth floor. The only problem is that it is too close to the sea, and it may be noisy when sleeping at night. Remember to bring earplugs. In addition, you can get up early in the morning to watch the sunrise, which is very amazing."

The Pacific Ocean spreads out before your eyes as you step inside. The open-air bath on the protruding terrace gives a sense of unity as if it were floating on the sea. The scent of the sea and the sound of the waves reverberate in every corner of your body. Escape from everyday life, face nature, and relax in peace.

"The entire hotel has only 7 bedrooms, each with a private bath and facing the sea. The hotel environment is designed in Japanese style, clean and the rooms are large. Breakfast and dinner are eaten in a room in the basement, which also has 7 rooms, so each bedroom is equipped with a dining room, which provides a high degree of privacy. The hotel staff are very friendly and smiling. When we arrived at the hotel, 3 people came to greet us, and when we left, 3 people came to see us off. The service was very thoughtful. All in all, the stay was great!"

GGuest UserIt was a wonderful place. Quite as I wanted. My room was with lovely details and everything well prepared. Train station was 6 minutes walk and the beach just across the street also 2 minutes walk only. With approx 15 minutes walk you could be in the next bigger area with food shops restaurants and the nice river. I could book a private 50 minute outdoor onsen time and it was awesome. The stuff are absolutely friendly and helpful. I felt so comfortable and had no wishes. I would come back.

SSarah GraceWe had an amazing 1 night stay at Shizentenyu... i'm still dreaming about the view from our room and the restaurant... amazing!!! We didn't realize that our room included a full 7-course set dinner menu, which was one of the highlights from our trip! The service was impecable, food delicious, and a huge thank-you to Alfie who guided us through our set menu in English. We would have been very confused without him. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, the Onsen lovely, we appreciated the lounge with free coffee, tea, beer, and popsicles. We also braved the steep walk down to the private beach and went for a refreshing swim! We wish we could have stayed longer!

GGuest UserThe room and environment are great, and the service is also very good. I just asked the front desk to borrow an adapter, but there was no adapter. In addition, the Western food reserved for dinner was said to be the default on Ctrip, but I did not choose Western food. Why should I go to a Japanese-style hotel? Maybe they all ordered Western food, but after negotiating for a long time, they changed to Japanese food for one night. I don't know who should be blamed for this problem.

AAnonymous UserThe hotel is in Izu Atagawa. The town is not big and there is only one Family Mart. You can buy snacks in advance. There is a small shop on the first floor of the hotel and a vending machine for instant noodles on the third floor. The hotel checks in at 15:00 and checks out at 10:00. Is this the rule for most Japanese hot spring hotels? 😃 There are Chinese service staff every day, but English communication is no problem. The ingredients are fresh and don’t feel dried...😯, black diamond users rarely comment, just happened to be there on the 24th, the picture below is the dinner that day, the hotel has some problems, but it is generally good.

11371811****Service: 5/5 – On September 5, 2025, Typhoon Pipa swept across the Izu Peninsula, causing the Izu Kyuko Line to suspend all services during the day. The hotel arranged a minivan to transport all checked-out guests to Izu-Kogen Station, a 40-minute drive. Onsen (Hot Springs): 5/5 – The hot spring area is a classic, aged traditional ryokan, but the cleanliness is impeccable. The hot springs are certified, and both the men's and women's outdoor rotenburo baths are unique, with the main large bath facing the coast. Food: 4.5/5 – Both breakfast and dinner were a slightly lavish kaiseki style, and the portions were more than generous. Even our two big appetites were completely stuffed. We experienced seven different ways of preparing Kinmedai (splendid alfonsino) over two days, including a whole fish served on the first night. The lobby offers complimentary Suntory beer, which is quite good, along with free snacks. However, soft drinks are not free and need to be purchased from a vending machine. If you have specific room type requests, you can communicate them with the ryokan in advance, and they genuinely try to accommodate them. When staying at this type of old-fashioned ryokan, it's best to state your needs directly, otherwise, it might affect your experience. Higashiizu Town is a rural town built into the mountains. Shopping is decent thanks to an Aeon supermarket, but dining out isn't very convenient.

GGuest UserThis is a bit worn out and simple hotel. The best things were the extremely friendly and helpful staff, as well as the super delicious dinner & breakfast that was included in the price. I ate maybe the most delicious croissant ever here. The variety and the quality of food was great. Things to improve are  the facilities, especially the onsen. It’s very small but more importantly, it wasn’t well maintained and there was no emergency button. When my mom felt like fainting, it wasn’t possible to call for help.  Also the air conditioner in the room was very loud, making it difficult to sleep. All in all, good stay.

KKaren-ChanThe hot spring hotel is relatively old, but the staff is very good. The receptionist can speak Mandarin, and the restaurant waiter can introduce himself in English. He seems to be Indian. The hotel is in a very good location facing the sea. However, the hotel's hygiene conditions are rather poor. After returning from the hot spring on the first night, my body began to itch, so I went to the pharmacy and bought some ointment. The floor was slippery and felt rather dirty. The water from the frozen kettle in the room contained dirt, so I did not dare to drink it, so I went to a convenience store to buy water. I have reported the above two situations to the hotel. The soundproofing of the room was poor. The sound of rain on rainy nights prevented everyone from falling asleep. We didn't sleep well even after staying there for two nights. The two nights were two nights with two meals. The breakfast and dinner menus were different every day. The food was fresh. The only drawback was that there was too little meat. My husband and son were not full enough.

GGuest UserWe had a delicious and fun time with the family. The private beach was also wonderful. If it was summer swimming season, the waves would be calm and it would be easy for children to play there. It was the last weekend of March during spring break, but the hotel was well thought out and didn't feel crowded, which was nice. The freshly fried tempura in the dining area and the fried bread for breakfast were very popular and delicious. However, the smell of oil permeated the yukata and hair I was wearing, so I felt like taking a bath and washing my hair again after the meal. I think it would be difficult, but if the ventilation environment was good, it would be perfect! That's how I felt.

AAnonymous UserA really nice resort hotel. The room was spacious, and the private onsen bath was very clean. The peculiar smell was likely from the tatami mats. We had the hotel's set menu for breakfast but didn't have dinner at the hotel. The supermarket next to Izu Kogen Station offers abundant sashimi, enough to eat your fill. The photos show the places we visited during our stay, and it was all very relaxing. Having seen some less favorable reviews, let me share my own experience. The hotel's occupancy is highly seasonal, so there might not be many staff members, but they all provided attentive service. During our stay, the station pick-up and drop-off service was always well-arranged. When I'm on vacation, I prefer to relax and not be disturbed, so I opted out of daily room cleaning. I've stayed at some older Japanese-style hotels, similar to those in areas like Shikoku's Oboke, and this level of service is pretty typical. Of course, perhaps I just haven't visited enough Japanese resort hotels to generalize. Overall, I highly recommend staying here. Don't set your expectations too high, but it delivers on all the essentials for a relaxing getaway.

LLThe staff are very polite and always willing to help. The room is big and comfortable. The sound-proof work is also effective, so I hardly hear any noise from rooms nearby. However, note that the hotel is in the middle of a mountain. If you don’t drive, you have to rely on the car service which the hotel offers (free of charge but not always available). It is almost impossible to go by foot. However, I must say the hotel staff has always tried their best to cater your needs, which I appreicate very much.
