Mister StephenThis hotel was handily situated close to the central railway station. There was a nice big lobby and lounge area to relax in after a day out. Staff were polite and helpful, especially Tommaso. The main street is just around the corner. The room was quite small but very comfortable and well-lit. I slept very well in a nice big bed with great mattress and pillows. The shower was great with lots of hot water and good pressure. Finally, the breakfast was superb. I recommend opting for breakfast when booking.

Casey D.An easy walk from the Bologna Centrale train station. Kind of a deserted street, had hoped to buy some food on my way there but ended up buying food there - the food was good, but it felt overpriced for sure. Rooms were very clean and comfortable - my daughter and I had a private room and bathroom, and it was great. My only minor complaint is that I found the pillows uncomfortable. But that might be more of a personal issue than anything else.

The hotel was only a 15-20-minute walk from the train station. The rooms were much bigger than expected with a comfy couch (and blankets) and TV. There was also an Alexa set up and she played music when directed and was pleasant. The kitchenette had ample utensils and cookware, but no napkins or paper towels. They supplied cold water in a pitcher as well as several bottles of wine (NOT complementary, but reasonably priced. The prices on the list in the room differed from the prices at the front desk, tho.) The complementary slippers were used every day as the tile floors were chilly. There was always enough hot water in the showers, but one bathroom light was out the whole time we were there (reported it to the front desk on the first day and they said they already knew about it, but were waiting on maintenance to fix. We had to make due without it for the six days we were there.) There were instructions on how to use each of the appliances (much appreciated!). It was a short walk to restaurants and cafes and the shopping district. Great accommodations for the price point and lots of room.

WilliamIn the academically rich city of Bologna, this hostel far exceeded my expectations. The location is superb, within walking distance to the Old Town, the Two Towers, Piazza Maggiore, and the University of Bologna. It's also very convenient for reaching the central train station, making it perfect for city sightseeing and day trips to nearby Modena and Ravenna. The dorm rooms are clean and fresh, with each bunk bed featuring a privacy curtain, individual charging socket, and ample locker space. The communal bathrooms are well-maintained with stable and abundant hot water. The staff are warm and friendly, knowledgeable about local cuisine and attractions, and patiently recommend authentic restaurants and sightseeing routes. The common areas have a relaxed and lively atmosphere, where you can meet young backpackers from all over the world and share travel stories. The communal kitchen is well-equipped for simple cooking. Overall, it's safe, comfortable, and offers outstanding value for money. Whether for a short layover or an in-depth exploration of Bologna, it's an excellent base for backpackers. I would definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit to Bologna. Highly recommended!

The “hotel” isn’t exactly a hotel. It’s in an apartment/residential building (1st floor from ground level - I’d call this the 2nd floor, but they would disagree here). I was a bit disappointed when I wanted to bring my bags a couple hours before check-in so I could walk around the city. Hotels are usually good about this; however, the “front desk person” for this “hotel” comes by appointment. Again, this isn’t a hotel, even though it’s advertised to be. I found out that you need to give them 48 hours notice if you plan to come by earlier (I didn’t see this information anywhere prior to check-in).
Overall, the space was clean, spacious and cool (the AC was the best part). The bathroom is modern and quite nice. The noise level was a bit much, as the room faces the street. Also, I had really hoped to use the laundry services (for additional charge) as shown on the Trip.com listing but again, I was told at check-in that I needed to give 48 hours notice for this, and that it’s not something they offer anyway. The front desk person told me there is a laundry mat near by (four minute walk, make sure to have coins).
I’m being completely transparent in this review, not to be a ****, but to be informative. I felt a bit misled, so please, if you have any special requests, make sure to share those with the front desk 48 HOURS BEFORE check-in. You can ring the doorbell (labeled “Casa Alessandrini”) outside the building all you want, but no one will come to let you in unless they are there. 👍

The hotel actually looks better than in the photos, and the location is excellent. There are many great restaurants within a 20-minute walk. It's also not far from the Neptune Fountain and the Twin Towers. The front desk service was excellent throughout our stay. A hidden gem is the free water dispenser located on the first-floor landing of the stairs, which was a nice touch. The city isn't large but feels very cozy.

The hostel provides you with the bare necessities, such as a comfortable bed, a spacious room and locker including a lock, and a small bedlight and socket.
Unfortunately, that is also literally it and nothing more. There are no curtains for the beds. The bathroom is super weirdly laid out; there is a bathroom with shower, the only toilet and a sink behind a door; then in front of that, there is another sink and a shower. WITH NO DOOR. Making this shower literally unusable. There are two light switches in the bathroom, one that turns on the light in the back bathroom (behind the door) AND a light for the front sink. This means that, if people are sleeping in the bed next to the bathroom, there is literally light shining directly on their face and all the sounds. A problem easily solved by adding a door and curtains on the beds.
The bathrooms didn’t have hand soap (they were empty) or any shower amenities (no shower gel). You have to pay if you want a towel, and you also have to make your own bed.
There is also a lot of noise from the neighbours, what seems like a student accommodation.
At this kind of price range, the level of amenities is terribly disappointing and could be easily solved. I have stayed in hostels all over the world and sadly this one was just one of two options in Bologna, so not much choice. There are really a lot of simple improvements possible that would have made it worth it, but I really cannot say this is value for money at all.

Downtown; convenient; the room is small but at least clean and quite intentional. Other gods don't have to expect too much. Of course there is no elevator and you need to pay attention. Of course the hotel will also notify in advance

Guest UserI enjoyed my stay at the Astor :) the room had a funny smell, the breakfast was very uninspiring, and one could hear every noise from every corner all the time, but the room also was large and comfortable and the bathroom was good and everyone on staff was very friendly and helpful - it was a relief to stay at a place where it felt a lot like being at home. I definitely would stay again.

Guest UserThis room had a fan but no AC. It was so hot I could not sleep. The shower is so small I could hardly bath without making a mess of water on the floor. The bathroom fan was malfunctioning making a loud noise when the light is on. The door has to be locked with a key from inside. It seems dangerous to me. All furniture was very old. I would not recommend this room and will not stay there again.
