Beijing Shichahai Shadow Art Performance Courtyard Reviews

It’s located in Shichahai Hutong area. It’s convenient to go to Prince Kung’s Mansion, Beihai Park and Shichahai bar area. However, it’s at least 20 minutes walk away from the closest subway station Beihaibei. Service was excellent- they allowed me to check in early. The receptionist offered to book tickets for attractions in Beijing. Amenities were basic. I liked the area around reception for drinks and snacks. Overall, it was a wonderful Stay.

Loved everything about the hotel - the reception, the location, the amenities and facilities. Shadow puppet performance is on every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and was truly enjoyable. 护国寺 is also a 5~10 mins walk from the hotel. Would love to visit again the next time I am back in Beijing.

Nice to stay for family holidays

Absolutely a must visit and stay in Beijing . The place was very unique with a very special vibe to it. Special thanks to 雯雯 & 萱 萱 for allowing us to check in earlier than the original check in time and for their kind hospitality throughout our stay in the property . There were also free shadow puppets shows every Tuesday , Thursday and Saturday. The location may be a bit deep in the Hutongs with difficult accessibility with a car but it is absolutely safe to walk around the area as the villagers in the neighborhood were very friendly. Huguosi snack street is located about 10-15 minutes walk from the property . The nearest MRT station is around 900 meters from the property. The rooms however looks a bit dated and needs a makeover.

Service was good, friendly guy behind the reception who spoke some English. Nice location in the hutongs. Restaurants and shops reasonably close by. Rooms were clean and tidy. Wifi worked perfectly. The breakfast was adequate.

The hotel itself is charming, clean and full of unique cultural character, offering a truly memorable Beijing experience. A special thank you to the front desk team-Jocelyn, Julie, Lilly,Tom and Jerry -- for their outstanding service. They were incredibly warm, professional,and always ready to help, whether it was arranging transport, recommending and helping with booking places to visit,or just offering a kind smile. Their hospitality made me feel right at home. I highly recommend this courtyard hotel to anyone visiting Beijing. The combination of location, atmosphere, hutong and exceptional staff makes it a standout choice. I'll definitely be back

Clean hotel with friendly personnel. I met 晖晖 on my first day and she also served me when I left. She's friendly and keen to share about the area when I asked. My only reservation is that the hotel is quite far away and is deep in a narrow quiet road. While I've never felt unsafe, I don't enjoy walking back at night, especially in the autumn when it's dark by 5+.

Hotel staff are very nice and helpful before, during and after stay. Best part of the stay is the Shadow puppetry show and sharing on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday(s). The hotel is located in a hutong, which may be a walk from the main street and train station but it is nice to be amongst the locals and hutong as they go about their daily lives. Location is conveniently located around the central tourists spots but yet quiet, peaceful and reasonably priced.

Very convenient hotel, very comfortable with very friendly staff. Right in the middle of real Beijing life (Huton area!), still very quiet. Very recommendable.

Setting superb. Staff and owner very friendly. Shadow performance gorgeous. Rooms not exactly on that level. Mostly no windows and asking for renovation. Only small continental breakfast.

Excellent team at the hotel who were extremely helpful and kind. Nice and spacious rooms and highly recommend the Shadow art show.

Nice boutique hotel in the Hutongs. Room was nice and comfortable and it was nice having the coffee machine in the lobby. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Limited English but we had no problems at all. Wish it was slightly closer to metro, but the location near Shichahai and the lake was nice. Bell and Drum Towers were only a 2 minute walk away. Only complaint is that we had a lot of cigarette smoke coming into our room one of the nights.

I highly recommend this hotel, specially if you want to get immersed in the rich Beijing culture. The location is magnificent (the Shichahai hutong), despite the nearest subway station is not as close as you would like if you carry heavy baggage or are very tired. The staff is kind and attentive, the rooms are clean and well prepared, and there’s even a puppet shadow theatre you can visit and enjoy. A nice choice if you wish to experience the traditional culture of Beijing old neighborhoods but with a modern vibe friendly with foreign tourists.
