Great stay at Vangen! Close to the great wall and nice staff (cats included)

Very quiet, modern courtyard home stay. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The food they are preparing is great and has very good food quality. Just one little downside, but just from my personal view, the air condition could be cooler. In the lowest settings the AC didn’t manage to cool down the room so much. Otherwise great home stay. We loved it here.

The hotel itself is nicely done up, with very spacious rooms. They also serve very good home cooked meals which was enjoyable. The only downside is the location away from Gubeikou Water Town and there is virtually nothing else around it, which could be charming too if you want to experience the local life. The service from the staff is wonderful and they took such good care of us in every way. We felt safe and trusted in their hands.

The hotel’s service is very good because even when the kitchen was already closed, they tried to prepare a light meal for us. They also had a very nice lounging area in the center which is be great for photos. The hotel staff is very nice too and they can help recommend which places to go and they would help all they can with any issues about our transportation,trip planning, and booking tickets. This hotel can not speak english though. And it would be recommended to drive there because it would be more convenient to go to WaterTown or other places. The hotel can call a taxi for you though but it would be twice as expensive as a normal taxi would cost. Also, the location is about 5-8 minutes away from WaterTown. Not recommended if you don’t have a car.

My stay wouldn’t be possible without Yezi’s kind assistance. Love the room, the courtyard, cats & kittens, a drink brewed with grains and the Great Wall of China from my room. The foot of the Great Wall is just a few hundred metres from hotel & the hike is short & interesting.

The location is very rural and the facilities of the lodge are in need of remodeling. But the service team is friendly, attentive and helpful.

Fantastic place, stayed here for one night to explore one of the nearby sections of the wall. Will recommend to friends!

Our stay was wonderful. We went during the week and the overall experience was perfect. The location is quiet and tucked under a small hill with direct view to the great wall which is amazing. The room is super spacious and minimally decorated while totally functional, plus it features a scented steamer to give it a spa feel. The hot spring in the room is golden (best after a day of hiking and walking). The hotel décor isn’t brand new, so there may be some small marks on the wall, for example, behind the mirror or by one door (speaking more about hosts who don’t take care of the facilitates than the hotel management itself). That said, everything is quite clean, and tidy, comfortable and warm. There may be one or two chilled bugs (tree bug or a small bee) visiting your room…it is the mountains after all. But they are harmless and if you cannot or prefer not to deal with them, the reception is happy to help you. The service is excellent, plus they were so kind to gift us a warm white mushroom soup (sweet warm delicious drink/dessert-y local delicacy) to warm us up the first night. And the next day when I asked what it was, they were kind enough to offer another cup 😊 Their coffees are excellent! They have a small bar offering simple cocktails and a fridge selling other soft or alcoholic drinks like soda, juice, beer and wine (simple). The hotel set meals are honest and simple, not home-style or farm to table but rather “continental”. However, they are super flexible and accommodating with options and somewhat late orders which is very appreciated on trips when you are not 100% sure you will make it in time for dinner, etc. They did have a local driver and offered a one-free trip from or back to the train station or another place around the area. He’s quite nice. However, if you are on a tight budget, better check with other drivers for your paid trips and compare with the hotel one to make sure you get the best value for $. Recommend 100% yes! Foreign and Chinese customers we all seemed quite happy. Do they speak English? I am not sure sorry. But Trip.com staff are very helpful in cross-communication and the ladies are young so they might!

A big compliment to this establishment. This whole place makes sense from A to Z. It has to be said that we are both trained hospitality people, with many years of experience in 5 Star properties, so our eyes are often over critical. Here, near to nothing which is missing, which is in wrong places or what we could complain about. The design and the function of the room is near to perfect, very clean, well furnished, all necessities available. It is just a joy to stay in that room, from the bed, daybed, hot water spring bath, really thought of everything. A perfect nest for a romantic stay. As we went in winter as well the room temperature was very agreeable, and there were a second heater, in case it would be too cold. There were some comments that you could walk up to the wall within 20 minutes, we took about the double and were pretty much out of breath, arriving there. But the walk is just wonderful and you have the nature all for yourself, only up the wall we met two other people. This place is highly recommendable. The staff is doing a fantastic job, and the overall quality is well worth the price. Btw the dinner we had was as well delicious.

Great hotel and friendly staff. The room is really spacious incl. hot tube. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The food is great! You can hike to the Great Wall in 20 min from the hotel. Really recommended!!

The room is clean, the facilities are well maintained, the private soup is clean and hygienic, the service is thoughtful, and we had Tremella soup for two nights. The dinner was also delicious, and the breakfast was also good. There were a few cute kittens. It is a 10-minute drive from Gubei Water Town, a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city

I have stayed here many times since it opened in 2018. The rooms are well maintained and the environment is unparalleled. I took my children to have a barbecue and play with cats on their birthdays. We also gave them sparkling wine and warm honey pomelo tea when they checked out. The Longshan Great Wall is also very easy to visit, highly recommended.
