Pros
Great location for exploring Themal and provided you are not too high up, you shouldn't hear any road noise as it's set back. I was on the 4th floor and could hear the incessant beeping motorbikes but had moved from the first floor where i heard none (but was directly above the kitchen so could hear banging and chairs scraping from around 6am). 2nd floor is probably a good choice
Staff were all excellent
Room cleaned daily with 2 large bottles of water provided each day
Breakfast was ok - decent variety of fruit, local and western with custom eggs. Coffee was instant though.
Air con has heat facility
No deposit required on check-in
Toiletries provided
Cons
Some noise depending on your room location - dont stay in 107 or room directly above the kitchen/restaurant
No safe for passport, cash etc in room
Breakfast area isn't particularly clean i.e. dirty table cloths/mats
Poor standard of fixtures/fittings e.g. gaps in windows and doors, curtains dont quite close right, dirty shower curtain, the rooms have seen better days but for the price its still good value.
No coffee or milk in room (or 3-in one)
No phone charging point near the bed
Bathroom mat was old and dirty, no floor towel
Tips: take extra passport photo if you intend to get a sim card at the airport, unlimited data one with nepal telecom cost me $10 - signal was mostly ok.
Get your currency before you arrive or take enough to convert there, the atm machines are expensive
Taxi from airport to Themal should be around 350 rupees working on 50 rupees per km plys 30 rupees start charge.
You will be hounded relentlessly by people from the second you leave the plane for tour services etc. It may seem impolite but dont make eye contact, say no thank you and keep walking, otherwise you will spend your entire trip speaking to them.
Right now its cold at night, pack accordingly.
Be prepared to pay for everything, every temple, every place of historical interest - foreigners are charged around 1000-2000 rupees each time. E.g. all the Durbar squares, main stupas and temples.
Don't assume that because Nepal is a developing country it is cheap. It isn't. In fact i found it comparable to some developed countries and not cheaper than say Thailand. A meal would cost me around 1000 rupees. In a smaller more local place you may pay 500.
Don't take your new trainers, it's a very dirty, dusty city but exactly what you would expect if you've ever seen it on TV - it's all part of the experience.
For exploring all of the main parts of Kathmandu, id say 5 days is a good amount of time. I recommend the everest helicopter tour but on that note i will say that tours are very expensive here, more expensive than even Hong Kong, Thailand, etc!! I ended up walking to the main temples, Chandragiri, Bakhtapur for the more local experience.
Opened on September 27, 1977, Hotel Yak & Yeti is located in the heart of Kathmandu at Durbar Marg . The hotel began with 120 beautifully designed rooms. Today, it has grown to offer 241 rooms, blending classic charm with modern comfort. Staying at Yak & Yeti feels like walking through a living museum. The interiors are adorned with intricate artwork, antique treasures, and traditional Nepali designs that tell stories of the country's rich heritage. Outside, the lush gardens offer a peaceful escape, complete with green lawns, a serene pond, and striking sculptures that add to the hotel's charm. One of the hotel’s most iconic features is the Lal Durbar Convention Center, a restored part of the historic Lal Durbar Palace. Built in 1890 by Prime Minister Bir Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, the palace showcases a unique mix of European, Persian, and Nepali architectural styles. Today, it serves as an elegant venue for weddings, meetings and grand events. Guests can also enjoy browsing the shopping arcade, where local crafts and souvenirs let you take home a piece of Nepal. In the waiting area, you’ll find a colorful, eye-catching gazebo created by contemporary artist Tsherin Sherpa. The artwork reimagines traditional Tibetan Buddhist motifs with modern influences, creating a space where sacred traditions meet global culture. From the vibrant Ganesha statue to traditional panas (oil lamps) and fine architectural details, every corner of Yak & Yeti radiates Nepali character. At the reception, the beautifully carved aakhi jhyal, a traditional wooden window greets you with timeless elegance. With warm hospitality, royal touches, and a deep connection to Nepal’s past and present, Hotel Yak & Yeti promises a truly memorable experience in the capital.

Location is superb, right in the middle of Kathmandu, walking distance to Thamel. Other interesting landmarks are easy to reach with the helpful taxi drivers (always present outside the gates).
Hotel staff are very kind, sincerely engage in conversation and helpful in providing tourist information.
Rooms are cost and warm decorated. Hotel has a beautiful garden suitable for a relaxing stroll. Swimming pool is nice and very clean!
I highly recommend this hotel above other hotels in Kathmandu. Thank you Mr Prakesh for the awesome service in the restaurant.

We booked 2 rooms here, one with my partner and one for my parents. The rooms were very clean and basic amenities were provided. The room is on the smaller side but no complaints here. The location is also good, walking distance from Thamel but also on a quieter street. Breakfast buffet is ok, could have some healthier options.

The room is nice and clean, very close to Tamil Street, convenient for travel. Originally, he was going to bring the children, but unfortunately the eldest son didn't do his homework well, so his father got angry and canceled his trip. It became my own travel, enjoying this big room alone. Sitting on the small balcony in the living room in the morning, watching pigeons and crows, and listening to the sound of chanting became my pleasant time in the morning. Breakfast is on the roof, the little chef is very kind, smiling every day, the boy in the white chef's clothes has been to the Great Wall of Beijing, and he hopes to go to China again. The brothers and sisters at the front desk on the first floor and the uncle are very nice and try their best to help me solve the problem. The owner, David, is a handsome young man who is working hard to learn Chinese. If you come to Nepal for the first time, you can find Xiaolong from the shop owner. He is a young man who can speak Chinese in Nepal. He arranges my itinerary in Nepal. He is a very good and responsible young man. I have played in Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara. I am very satisfied. . But it should be noted that Xiaolong is only used as a contact person for tourists in Nepal, and is only responsible for contact, ticket purchase and other matters. There are no restrictions on the behavior of other people in the itinerary. Semi-independent travelers need to have a certain ability to solve problems by themselves, which must be clarified. It cannot be compared with the domestic tourism system, but the basically agreed itinerary can definitely be completed. In Nepal for twelve days, I am very satisfied with the hotel and Xiaolong, thank you! I love Nepal and the Nepalese people, I will come back with my kids!

The skyline restaurant is the best at sunset in this hotel. They have a transparent glass floor to watch everything under your feet. Many locals also get dressed up and come here to enjoy the million-dollar-worthy sight. You can also enjoy the buffet breakfast at the same restaurant if staying here.
I used the swimming pool and sauna on 9 floor. The staff there are very attentive and friendly. Feel like a queen being there!
The room is super clean and smell nice! I am amazed by the A.C. System. Believe me that’s very rare to find in Kathmandu!
All is very good from the beginning of check-in and till the end. They have free drop-off transportation to airport. So I would highly recommend to book the last nights in Nepal and enjoy a relaxing evening of here!

One of the newly built hotel in Kathmandu, though it’s not close to the central tourist district, Thamel area but it’s just 20mins drive from the Airport, so quite convenient.
Since my booking including an airport pick up and drop off, so my whole journey was very smooth. Thank you much to the concierge arrangement for the logistic.
As for catering, I have only had their breakfast buffet which was also including in my booking, through my four days breakfast I didn’t get bored yet since they offered a wide variety of food options. Westerns parties, Chinese food, local Nepalese food and also Indian ones. The head chef and his catering team are super attentive and thank you so much for taking good care of my stomach during my stay.
Room, since it’s newly built, all facilities are up to standards, and the sound proofing is quite ok to a light sleeper like me. Water pressure from the shower is good; and the amenities are well provided.
Besides to our beds. There are usb and charging ports, very convenient.
Other facilities:
Gym: small one but well equipped
Spa: there’s a spa on the top floor but I haven’t had time to try
Rooftop bar: very nice ambient should go during the sunset
Overall, if I would ever visit Kathmandu again Hilton is my only option.

LLita DitaI had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The rooms were clean, comfortable, and provided everything I needed for a relaxing visit. The staff was friendly and always willing to help, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. For the price, the quality of service and amenities exceeded my expectations. The location was also convenient, making it easy to explore the area. Overall, this hotel offers great value for money, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable stay.

SSunnyMoonPersonally, I think the hotel is outstanding, with complete facilities, free yoga classes every day, and the restaurant is open until nine in the evening. It is very close to the Boudhanath Stupa and is worth experiencing.
劉劉芝羽Pros:
The service of reception and restaurant were nice.
The location is so great.
Cons:
There was smoky smell inside the room.
I wasn’t used to the food that had similar look but different taste that I used to.
The only that I really couldn’t stand with was those who welcomed me “with my name” and “helped” with my luggage at the airport required 20USD for tips. I realized at last that there is no need to tip in Nepal. And it seemed that the hotel knew the condition and let it be. Please be noticed not to tip them at such a price and separate the money.

AAnonymous UserThe location is perfect, right at the heart of the city. The view is great, too.
The staff are amazing: Bibek informed me about everything I asked, from means of transport to some specialties. I didn't have a kettle in the room, and he got me one.
The breakfast was nice, although served only starting from 11 am (which is a bit late to my taste).
The biggest issue is hot water that is warm, but i guess that's the case pretty much everywhere in Nepal. There's an AC, a bar of soap, a toothpaste and a toothbrush, a towel, two chairs, but no desk.
FFunky APRamada keeps it's name and value, it can be seen in this hotel. The staff are friendly and caring. Though it was only a short stay but the room was good enough. The beds are comfortable and has basic amenities. The balcony has good space. It's quite and peaceful from outside. A good sleep and a good stay. Happy with the service.

GGuest UserWe knew the service would be good as soon as we booked, and within hours we received a welcome email, listing the ways we could contact them if we needed to.
On the pick up at the airport, they were speedy and efficient and the taxi ride only took us 20 minutes with traffic.
As we walked through the door we were blown away by the interior decoration, only then to find that hotel had been a former palace!
Historic artifacts and pictures were strewn through the hallways and the outside only matched the royal feel with perfection.
We stayed in the royal suite, with a big bed and balcony. The staff were great, the breakfast was standard for off peak times and although the location isn't in the depth of Thamel, the area most will go out for eating and drinking, it was within 30 minutes drive of most landmarks and as it was the ambassedy/ office worker area, there was a nice vibe.
There were some things that can't be controlled. The hotel did a good job of providing heat as the weather in February is still chilly.
The pollution was real. Especially as you walk nearer the streets, something to think about if you are sensitive to this. Apart from that, It was all really wonderful. Niraj Yadav the receptionist and the team, we thank you dearly.
GGuest UserThe second time I stayed here, because it is the best hotel near the Great Pagoda, and it covers a large area. The design of the hotel is very ethnic, and the entire building wood carvings to the nine pagodas of the Tang Dynasty are very unique, very local, and very elegant. As for the service, I think the service in the restaurant is much better than the service at the front desk.
There are two ethnic music performances every day.
GGuest UserOk, so my review is completely honest, and as such, based on value, I have to give 5/5, but for me personally, I wouldn't stay again. The room and bathroom were exceptionally clean. This is very important indeed, and again based on the price, the standards are exceptional, especially pertaining to cleanliness and overall tidiness. This is more of a hotel though - a sort of hybrid between private rooms and small dormitories. As a backpacker (though from time to time it is nice to have a quieter and cleaner place), I look for more atmosphere, socially speaking. There were other tourists here, but it was very quiet indeed. The rooftop was very pleasant though, and they did have football showing on the television. The ambience there is nice and I was given a complimentary tea, though the menu prices are expensive. The showers had hot water most of the time, but not always. The WiFi (not the fault of the hotel) was also down due to street repairs for my stay, so I can't comment on the speed. Lastly, the owner was accommodating and pleasant and likewise the staff too. Again, to reiterate, for the price, the value is very good indeed, it's just not my personal preference. Hope this helped 👍
GGuest UserThere is a garden and the restaurant is also in the garden. The single bed is a little small but very comfortable. There is a terrace facing the garden. Fortunately, it closes at 8 or 9 in the evening, so it becomes very quiet immediately.
GGuest UserNice Old Hotel, Great Staff with few needs to improve.
Swimming pool is totally disappointment. Better to shut down, than keep running and not swimmable, waist of energy. The water is dirty, no star at all.
The lobby, the room and Ghurka bar are still great.
2 power shutdowns in 1 day, I believe they are struggling with power shortages due to dark lounges.
Breakfast was so so, coffee or tea should be not a challenge to serve first, sometimes took half of meal before they come. Many Tables are not stable and aligned, egg can easily roll over to other side. Atleast 3 tables on my experience.
Room is comfortable, nice bed and always fresh linen. Only noisy from AC , maintenance team came twice on my room to fix, though transfer was offered on my last 2 days.
Managers should not standing in buffet line, either they should help the line staffs or directing the team, talking business in public is not of our guests concern.
Front desk Trainee, has good presence, I thought first he is manager.
A lot can be improved and polished, the hotel has a great potential, nice design, great facilities and great staffs. I wish that management should look all themselves and review those small details.
