It didn't start well - my room was next to the night gate whose keycard lock is kaput and if it was not closed carefully it closed with a clang. My phone call to the night manager (reception closes early) to change rooms was ignored. But next morning the front desk staff was most helpful in changing my room to a quieter one. Avoid rooms 11 and 12 if you can. The hostel itself is modern, well set up and well located. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. The dorms are small but the ensuite facilities are good. The bunks are comfortable and come with a reading light and privacy curtains. The hostel is located a few blocks from the tourist center around the lake shore and from the supermarket in the Central Mall. It is also just across the road from Kuirau Park, a geothermal area in the heart of Rotorua. Relax and soak your feet in the thermal footbath. Parking was not a problem. Haupapa Street outside the hostel has metered parking from 9 to 5 Mon to Fri and 9 to 12 Sat. Outside those hours parking is free and unrestricted. Across Ranolf Street on the edge of Kuirau Park there is unrestricted free parking at all times - get in early to claim a spot. Hostel staff also told me that they have off-street parking for $15 a night. Security is not great - the broken gate lock means that the common areas are open to anyone, but the rooms are secured by keycard locks.

Amazing stay. Pretty clean facilities for a hostel, friendly and helpful staff, dorms were decently sized. Overall one of the best hostel stays I've had. Only notes are that top bunk beds don't have rails and (at least in my room) there were no outlets near the beds. On the plus there were cupboards to keep your stuff, just bring your own padlock! If looking for activities to do while you're visiting, there are tons of pamphlets in the lobby and staff has many good recommendations (plus discounts for certain places so make sure to check with them before booking)
Great care is taken to ensure guests experience comfort through top-notch services and amenities. Remain linked during your visit by utilizing the complimentary internet access available.Prior to your check-in date, you can arrange airport transportation services, guaranteeing a seamless and efficient experience for both arrival and departure. Parking is accessible, supplied by the hostel for guests who arrive by car.The hostel is completely smoke-free. In limited designated zones, smoking is exclusively permitted. For those with discerning taste buds, having an on-site BBQ facilities and shared kitchen at your disposal will undoubtedly be appreciated.

The location is very good, right next to the i-site, it is very convenient to catch the intercity bus in the morning. Many restaurants nearby, Government Gardens, Polynesian baths, and a Tamaki Maori dinner event I participated in are all within a 10-minute walk. Hygiene is okay for backpackers’ hostels. They seem to wash the sheets themselves rather than outsource them, but I don’t know which is cleaner. I don’t know if this hostel is run by Indians. The staff are all Indians, so there are more Indians staying in. Everyone is very kind. The only one who wanted to complain is that the bathroom hook is too high. The 154's stature said that he couldn't reach it on tiptoe, and the staff responded that they had nothing to do. Fortunately, I carried a portable hanger at any time, barely reaching it. Otherwise, you can only put on the wet floor towel to change your clothes, just think about it😥

There were some sites that rated this as a 4. Seriously... maybe a solid 3. The lady who's runs it is nice and helpful. The basics were clean, but walls, etc, weren't and lots falling apart. My kitchen sink was crazy small and the tap wasn't attached, so when you turned it on, it moved, and water was everywhere. I was worried when I first arrived, seemed super sketchy....traveling solo. It turned out to be safer than I thought. The room and amenities were sufficient, and it was close walking distance to a super cool park, active vents, etc. But was it a 4, no, not at all. The place is falling apart, and I had my own room with ensuite.

Excellent
GGuest UserThe place was nice, but not as exceptional as we expected by others reviews. Things are a little worn in the room we were in. In the morning my wife went to use the spa/hot tub and after filling it with water she turned it on and it spewed out extremely dirty water. Manager said it was because the hotel was old. I disagree. - it simply needed a better cleaning. Use bleach and fill, run and refill the hot tub until it comes out clean. It’s not rocket science. They don’t offer any kind of refund but they did offer us a couple of candy bars and an apology.
NNur RuzannaVery clean, has everything you need. Wasn’t able to check in by 630pm, called them in advance to inform and arranged for a self check in. Emily was very kind, explained the steps over the phone, and texted again just as a reminder. Self check in was very easy and convenient. Instructions were attached with the key, documents were neatly placed in the room.
Only downside was it wasn’t very close to the supermarket/shops, probably about 15min walk, but it was raining so took us 20min. Driving would have been better.
Please note there’s no lift, so we had to carry our luggage to the 2nd floor.
Overall, would come back again, it was still a great stay!
GGuest UserWhen we booked the cheapest motel we could find for the short stay of two nights, we were not prepared for such an interesting experience. The rooms were scrupulously clean. Top marks for that. Towels changed every day. But oh what a strange place. There are two parts to the motel. We were put in what had once been a very expensive 1950's house converted into motel rooms. Up a very steep staircase, into the room, which has been decorated in what can only be described as someone's idea of art deco come 1950's. We had such fun figuring out what parts of the house had been altered to accommodate our space. The bathroom is very adequate and rather quaint. The toilet stall is housed in what would have been the homes original shower, with all the original pipework covered up by pictures. Access to the bathroom from the bedroom - step onto a mat - check under the mat and start laughing, because the pipework for the original toilet is still there. But hey, it was clean, the rooms large and after all, it's only to sleep in.
GGuest UserPerfect place for families. Everything and more. Studio we had was warm and offered plenty of space and beds for our stay (3ppl) modem bathroom and kitchen with everything you need. Having a communal kitchen & 2 BBQ, available to use was a welcome bonus, the mineral pools and thermal swimming pool were well used and enjoyed by us during our stay as well. Thank you. On site laundry is an added bonus as well as being close to city centre, parks and eateries. Owners were friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable in the area and local attractions. There was a large school group when we stayed over the long weekend they were always courteous and never loud you honestly didn't think there was 20(estimate) kids on site the back lawns, trampolines and swings kept them busy. Will definitely be back to stay again.
GGuest UserMy mother and I stayed one night, the room was clean, comfortable and had everything needed. The shower over the bath was a bit tricky. Easy distance to the city centre, where we found some great restaurants. Staff could have been a bit more engaging
RRUITINGVery clean and tidy small courtyard, convenient parking and super convenient shopping. Chinese little brother, also sent coupons for various attractions, thank you very much. Very much like a small hotel, the price is close to the people, stayed for four days, great.
GGuest UserWhat a Great Motel ( a little dated ) but very clean , the price reflexes that , had everything we needed, the staff were very friendly & accommodating, we had storage for our E Bikes ( which was very important to us ) , the Motel was very close to everything & lots of biking trails , it had a heated swimming pool washing facilities etc , we certainly would return & would Highly Recommend
RraisunfamilyThe motel units are clean, comfortable, and adequate for a short stay. I had left a telephone message before arrival, and not had any reply, so when we arrived and I introduced myself, the young lady explained to me that the owners do not speak English, and she, herself is only a part time worker who helps them out. HOW in NZ, can this happen? The criteria for living and working in NZ, as a foreigner, is that English is tested prior to working visa's or residency is granted (being an immigrant myself, I know this first hand!). Despite this language barrier, which is more annoying than anything else, our stay was comfortable. The unit could do with a freshen up - coat of paint, new bathroom floors, shower glass cleaned better etc. We chose this motel as it had a hot tub, but the tub annoyingly switches off every supposed 8 - 10 minutes. This seemed more like every 5 minutes and the re-set switch is so far away from the tub, you have to hop out in the COLD to switch it back on! So much for my relaxing time. The motel request to avoid using the hot tub after 10pm is realistic and understandable, and we were happy to comply. I'm sure we will return, possibly. Hope the re-set hot tub switches are moved by then!
