Hanamizuki Onsen Ryokan

”This trip to Izu Kogen was made particularly memorable because of this B&B. As soon as I arrived at the B&B, the owner's warm welcome made me feel like spring breeze. The owner was very considerate. Not only did he introduce us to the surrounding attractions in detail, but he also gave us a lot of practical travel suggestions. The environment of the B&B is even better. The room is clean and tidy, and the layout is very warm and Japanese, making people feel as comfortable as at home. The public area is also very comfortable, and the hot spring ♨️ is also very suitable for families. It must be mentioned that this B&B is very close to the Jogasaki Coast, and it is very convenient to travel. You can just walk there, and the scenery along the way is also very beautiful. When we went back, it rained heavily and the tram stopped running. The owner took the initiative to contact us to help us find a way, and finally sent us to our destination. Thank you very much🥹 In short, this stay experience was great. I will definitely recommend this B&B to my friends around me, and next time I come to Izu Kogen, it will still be my first choice.”👍
Hotel New Akao

I suppose the charm of Atami is that the whole area is a little bit 'dated' as far as a resort goes, and this hotel definitely aligns with that - it seems like a place that was once great and is now kind of just rolling along bringing in what money it can. The food is serviceable but totally uninspired - an upscale cafeteria masquerading as something better than it is with 'chefs' wearing their whites. The entire dining room constantly smells of fryer oil from the tempura - which they still make and keep stock of in such large quantities that it is never fresh and crispy anyways (especially the shrimp, which has not been sufficiently dried before battering). The remaining hot dishes are very disappointing both in terms of variety and overall flavor. The sushi and sashimi is the standout of the food, although it too is very basic - not anything that will blow your mind, but acceptably tasty and reasonably fresh (although on our second night everything tasted a bit soapy/bleachy). As a westerner you will be very disappointed by the breakfast, although that's a 'me' problem rather than a hotel problem per se. The spa facilities are nice but a bit dated - be careful in your selection of both time and location unless you want to be surrounded with many loud (mostly Chinese) children. Private spas are available and are quite nice, although again dated. Nonetheless at around 60 USD for an hour the price is good for the privacy, especially as a westerner who is otherwise subject to quite a bit of staring at this mostly local and Chinese spa. We stayed in a deluxe king room, which was spacious with an enormous and comfortable bed, and a (For japan) reasonably sized tub. Room and desk service was good. The hotel is a bit off the beaten path but has regular free shuttles to/from Atami station, which is where the main tourist streets for shopping etc can be found. Highly suggest checking out Golden Eye for some excellent Ramen.

Fujisan Mishima Tokyu Hotel
4.7/5258 Reviews
The Fujisan Mishima Tokyu Hotel offers a fantastic base for visitors exploring the Hakone region, with easy access via the nearby Mishima Station. The hotel lobby is on the second floor, providing a welcoming atmosphere with modern decor. One of the hotel's highlights is the hot spring on the 14th floor, featuring panoramic views of Mount Fuji, which many guests find to be an unforgettable experience. The hot spring is highly rated for its ambience and amenities. Rooms at the hotel are of comfortable size and noted for cleanliness and well-maintained furnishings. The convenience of a bus station in front of the hotel or Mishima Station makes travel around the Hakone area very manageable, allowing guests to explore easily. This hotel is ideal for travellers seeking a balance of comfort, convenience, and an authentic Japanese experience with spectacular views.
HOTEL CAPSULE INN SHIZUOKA
4.5/552 Reviews
I thought it was a capsule hotel, so I thought I would sleep in a coffin, but the room was better than I thought, the size of a goshiwon. It was clean, and the facilities, such as the bathroom and shower, were well organized. You can use the laundry room at a low price. The location is good, right in front of Shizuoka Station. This is the king of cheap accommodations. The only thing is that the wall above the door is open, so the noise from the hallway and other rooms comes in. If you are a traveler who is sensitive to noise, it would be a good idea to buy earplugs at the reception.
FUJI OUTLET HOT SPRING HOTEL
4.3/519 Reviews
After having fun in Hakone, I went shopping at Gotemba Outlets. I booked a stay at the Fuji Outlet Hot Spring Hotel in the evening. The location of the hotel is very good. Take the free bus from Gotemba Outlets to Tomei Gotemba Station and walk for about 5 minutes. arrive. The hotel is clean and the room is spacious. The best thing is that we met Chinese staff at the hotel. They were very enthusiastic. They helped us buy express bus tickets to Tokyo and solved our urgent need. I would like to express my special thanks to this Chinese man.
Dormy Inn Express Fujisan Gotemba
4.6/5426 Reviews
It is what you can expect from a Dormy Inn : lots of freebies, a comfortable room and a bathhouse area with the bonus point of having a good Mount Fuji view especially if you get the rooms facing the right side. The hotel's clearly geared for people who drive, there is two main carpark areas but it can get filled up quite quickly during peak holiday periods. The breakfast was sumptuous and excellent as expected from a Dormy Inn. There is a nice late night soba service and popsicles in the evening. Location wise, it is only a short drive away from the Gotemba Premium Outlets and some local sights. It is located next to Chichibunomiya Memorial Park with a former villa. The hotel is also pretty new.
Toyoko Inn Shin-fuji-eki Minami-guchi
4.5/5167 Reviews
It’s a nice budget hotel near Shin-Fuji Station, and overall, it was a pleasant experience for me. The hotel is very close to the trains, yet surprisingly quiet. It’s small but very clean, with everything necessary provided in the room. Though the room isn’t spacious, it is cozy, and I enjoyed a nice view of Mount Fuji from my window, even if the grids on the window made it tricky to capture good photos. The breakfast is simple but adequate to start your day, and I noticed the menu changes daily (I stayed for two nights and had different options each morning). The staff, while not fluent in English, were incredibly kind and helpful. They really made my stay more comfortable. The hotel provides a few shuttle buses to the nearby train station, which was very convenient. They also offer free shuttles to Fujikawaguchiko, but only on national holidays and weekends, so I didn’t get the chance to try that. If you’re heading to the Shin-Fuji Station, there’s a tourist center with English-speaking staff who are very helpful. You can even rent bicycles there to explore the area and enjoy stunning views of Mount Fuji. For the price, it’s a great option, especially if you’re on a budget and looking for a quiet, clean place to stay with some handy amenities.

Dear Mars Gardenwood Gotemba Team, I trust this message finds you well. I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding service we received during our stay at your hotel from the 6th to the 7th of February. Due to unexpected snowstorm warnings, our travel plans were disrupted as all express and hill roads were blocked. In this challenging situation, the warmth of your welcome and the assistance we received in inquiring about Toyota Rent a Car were truly remarkable. I must extend special gratitude to a staff member (whose name unfortunately escapes me) for their unwavering patience and detailed explanations, providing us with the assistance we needed during these trying circumstances. This experience has left a lasting impression on us, and we wanted to convey our deepest thanks for the exceptional service received, particularly from the staff member whose name, regrettably, slipped my mind. Thank you once again for turning a challenging situation into a positive and memorable experience. We look forward to the opportunity to stay at Mars Gardenwood Gotemba in the future.
