Ningbo Getaway | Escaping into the mountains with the kids is such a treat — traveler post in Ningbo

Ningbo Getaway | Escaping into the mountains with the kids is such a treat

Didn't want to travel far for the weekend and wanted to find a quiet spot where the kids could relax, so I chose the Holiday Inn Ninghai (IHG's Purple Label Holiday Inn). It certainly didn't disappoint! Unlike standard Holiday Inns, the Purple Label property feels much more upscale. Tucked away in the mountains of Ninghai, you're immediately surrounded by lush greenery the moment you arrive. It's a perfect escape from the city bustle with a fantastic atmosphere—ideal for a short family trip near Ningbo. We stayed in a detached villa, which was the highlight of our trip. It offered great privacy and plenty of space, allowing our family to relax comfortably. The hot spring water is piped directly into the villa, so there's no need to share with others. It was quiet, relaxing, and restorative—exactly the kind of peaceful escape you need when traveling with kids to avoid the crowds. Dining was also stress-free. The Ning All-Day Dining restaurant offers a rich breakfast with mild flavors that are perfect for children. In the afternoon, we visited the Mo Xiang Ge lounge for afternoon tea—a slow, relaxing break where the adults could unwind and the kids could enjoy a treat. The amenities are truly family-friendly! There's a dedicated kids' club and regular family activities, so the kids can jump around while parents get a well-deserved break. There's a large outdoor lawn for walking and running, and the hotel is pet-friendly, so you can even bring your furry friends along. The Yiye Muxin Hot Spring Center is fully equipped, and if you want a quiet soak in the forest, the public area is surrounded by trees—the atmosphere is incredible. No need for long-distance travel—just soak in the hot springs, enjoy good food, and spend quality time with your kids in the mountains. Whether you're planning a family trip, a getaway with friends, or a short vacation with your pets, this place is perfect. If you're looking for a relaxing vacation spot near Ningbo, add this to your list.

Ningbo Getaways | This mountain homestay was the perfect spot for our autumn team building

Honestly, I've checked out many homestays around Ningbo and have had my fair share of team-building disappointments. But the team-building experience at Shu Jia An Shan She really amazed me. It's the kind of place you can't forget after visiting, and I've already recommended it to HR in other departments 😭 It's just a 30-minute drive from the city center. The moment you step out of the car, the tension of the city just melts away. Backed by Lingshan Mountain, facing the Ci River, and right next to the thousand-year-old Baoguo Temple. The mountains are layered with autumn leaves, and the autumn breeze carries the scent of grass and trees. In this perfect, not-too-cold, not-too-hot autumn weather, the mountain vibes are immaculate 🍂 The homestay features a minimalist Zen style with white walls and black tiles, plus floor-to-ceiling windows. The rooms are clean and airy, with views of the autumn forest landscape right outside. Waking up to the distant bells of the ancient temple in the morning brings such inner peace 📸 The biggest surprise is this 4,000 sqm lawn! It's spacious and uncrowded. Our team played frisbee and group games on the lawn. With the warm autumn sun on us, the photos look great straight out of the camera, effortlessly capturing those perfect team-building shots. Evening is the highlight of the team building 🌇. The lawn barbecue sizzles with aroma as the sunset washes over the mountain ridge. Everyone sat around chatting, letting go of work stress. At night, you can even arrange an outdoor movie. For those who prefer quiet, you can go to the tea room for tea by the fire and chat. The dining experience exceeded expectations 🍲. Anshan Canteen specializes in authentic Ningbo cuisine, with fresh ingredients and reliable flavors. Whether it's a large group dinner or a small casual meal, they can handle it all. No need to go out looking for restaurants—it's so convenient. There's a wide selection of room types, with 22 rooms across 8 categories. It's suitable for small gatherings with friends, family trips, or booking the entire property for company team building. Our team booked the entire property, enjoying the whole mountain area to ourselves without any interruptions from other guests. The privacy is 100% 💯 In your spare time, take a slow walk along the mountain trails, visit Baoguo Temple to explore the ancient architecture, or stroll through the autumn forest for some fresh air and let go of all your work anxiety. I genuinely recommend this to anyone in Ningbo looking to plan a team-building event. No need for long-distance travel—reach this mountain secret spot in just half an hour. Soak up the autumn sun, play games, have a barbecue, and watch the sunset. You must come to Anshan She for your team building this autumn 🌾 📍Address: No. 58 Andong Road, Hongtang Street, Ningbo 💰Average cost: 400+

Just take a slow walk along the paths; there's no need to hike. The soft afternoon light is perfect for photos. 🚄 Countryside Train Travels through rice paddies and across the lawns, about 15 minutes one way. One Day in Lin'an Zhinan Village | An ancient village in the clouds, a date with autumn harvest and ginkgo trees — traveler post in Ningbo

One Day in Lin'an Zhinan Village | An ancient village in the clouds, a date with autumn harvest and ginkgo trees

One Day in Lin'an Zhinan Village | An ancient village in the clouds, a date with autumn harvest and ginkgo trees🍂 Zhinan Village is a top-tier, niche autumn viewing spot in the Yangtze River Delta, hidden on the hillside of Taihuyuan in Lin'an, and is known as the most beautiful ancient village in East China. Old houses with white walls and black tiles are hung with bamboo baskets for drying crops, and red persimmons, corn, and pumpkins are laid out to dry. Hundreds of century-old trees surround the village, thousand-year-old ginkgo trees scatter golden leaves, and terraced fields spread across the mountains. The route can be leisurely or a light hike, without high-intensity climbing, making it perfect for families, seniors, or friends taking photos. The autumn atmosphere is top-notch. ✅ Suitable for: Families with children, traveling with parents, beginner light hikers, Hanfu photography, and those who love ancient village harvest scenes ⏰ Duration: One day (Recommended 8:30 AM–4:00 PM. The reflection in the Heavenly Pool in the early morning is stunning for photos) Location: Zhinan Village, Taihuyuan Town, Lin'an District, Hangzhou 📅 Best time to visit: Mid-November–early December, when ginkgo, red maples, and harvest scenes are all visible 🗺️ Easy one-day route (senior and child-friendly): Village entrance parking lot → Heavenly Pool (photo spot for reflections) → Ancient village streets and harvest drying spots → Thousand-year-old ginkgo tree grove → Qigu Square → Terraced field viewing platform → Lunch at a local farmhouse restaurant → A short, leisurely walk on the Linchuan Ancient Trail → Return ⭐ Tangtang's Quick Tips ▪️ Transportation: Driving is preferred; navigate to Zhinan Village parking lot. Traffic can be heavy on weekends during peak autumn season, so we recommend leaving early. During peak times, private cars may not be allowed directly into the village, and you may need to transfer to a scenic shuttle bus. ▪️ Road conditions: The main roads in the village are flat, with only a few steps on the terraced fields and ancient trails, making it friendly for seniors and children. Be careful walking on the field ridges as fallen leaves can be slippery. ▪️ Food recommendations: Stewed free-range chicken, braised pork with dried bamboo shoots, mochi, and mountain walnuts. The local farmhouse dishes are authentic. ▪️ Clothing: There is a large temperature difference in the mountains, so bring a light jacket. With many fallen leaves and slippery steps, be sure to wear non-slip sneakers. ▪️ Etiquette: The harvest drying displays are the villagers' crops; please do not touch them or step on the terraced fields. Please take photos quietly. ▪️ If you want a more relaxed trip, just explore the village; there's no need to finish the entire ancient trail. 💛 Tangtang's Notes Zhinan Village is not far from Maohuo and Shilin Village in Siming Mountain. If you have enough time, you can plan a loop for autumn sightseeing in Western Zhejiang. The mountain roads have many curves on weekends, so drive slowly when passing other cars. Arriving early not only ensures parking but also allows you to catch the morning mist and the reflection in the Heavenly Pool, which is the most beautiful time of the day. 💬 Are you planning to leisurely explore the ancient village and take photos of the harvest, or go for a light hike on the ancient trail? Let's chat in the comments section!

A Japanese-style Zen homestay hidden in a thousand-year-old town: Lost Villa Cicheng — traveler post in Ningbo

A Japanese-style Zen homestay hidden in a thousand-year-old town: Lost Villa Cicheng

Lost Villa Cicheng Ancient Town LOST VILLA CICHENG Cicheng Ancient Town, Jiangbei District, Ningbo I first arrived in Cicheng on a drizzly afternoon. The bluestone paths were glistening from the rain, and the air was filled with the ancient scent of camphor wood mixed with damp earth. Walking slowly along the ancient town's main street, "Minquan Road," lined with well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty houses, I suddenly found myself before a modest wooden door—"Lost Villa Cicheng." There was no flashy signage, just a simple, understated doorplate, as if it had naturally grown out of the ancient town, quietly waiting for those destined to find it. The designer has skillfully woven Japanese wabi-sabi and Zen aesthetics into the bones of a Jiangnan courtyard house. It is not a simple juxtaposition, but a symbiosis. The main structure is a dignified and elegant quadrangle courtyard, surrounded by several courtyards of varying sizes, creating a marvelous "courtyard within a courtyard" layout. In the gardens, dry landscape rock arrangements, bamboo fences, and mossy ground cover are scattered artfully; every corner offers a scene that might make you pause for a long while. The entire homestay has only 19 guest rooms, each slightly different. Some face the central courtyard, while others occupy a quiet corner with their own small view, but they all share the common trait of allowing you to "open your eyes to a view and feel refreshed." The rooms feature a primary palette of natural wood and plain white. The amenities are tasteful, the bedding is soft and skin-friendly, and the bath products have a fresh, natural scent—every detail reflects thoughtful care. Furthermore, some room types are pet-friendly, so you can bring your furry friends along. The hotel's "Wild Dining" restaurant offers a semi-buffet breakfast where you can enjoy authentic Ningbo delicacies like tangyuan (sweet rice balls), rice cakes, and fermented rice soup—warming both the stomach and the heart. For main meals, you can taste authentic Ningbo flavors and creative fusion dishes, with many ingredients reportedly sourced locally. The "Wild Coffee" cafe at the entrance is converted from an ancient hall; enjoying a pour-over coffee here offers a uniquely wonderful experience where East meets West.

Ningbo Family Outing | Zhaobaoshan Chrysanthemum Exhibition is on the mountain! Searching for the Five Blessings between the mountains and the sea

The 39th Golden Autumn Chrysanthemum Exhibition at Zhaobaoshan is perfect for a family outing! For the first time in 38 years, the chrysanthemum exhibition has been moved to the mountain 🌼 A thousand years of chrysanthemum history meets the mountains and the sea. Hike and enjoy the autumn scenery while collecting blessings in the park—the atmosphere is incredible. Pick up your "clearance pass" at the entrance to start the quest for the Five Blessings! Along the way, you'll encounter five Chrysanthemum Fairy NPCs. Xiaoxiao put on a little scholar's Hanfu, and we stopped at each one to interact and get our stamps. We collected all five blessing stamps: Affinity, Wealth, Peace, Wisdom, and Fulfillment. The kids were so engaged 🥳 There are so many photo spots along the way: ✅ Chrysanthemum Corridor: Rainbow veils paired with a path full of chrysanthemums—it's super photogenic ✅ Golden Ao Fish: A giant floral Ao fish sculpture that caught the kids' eyes immediately ✅ Top Scholar Bridge: Chrysanthemum arches symbolizing success in exams—a great way to wish for good luck ✅ Zhaobaoshan Stage, Phoenix Dancing in Golden Autumn, Century-old Coastal Defense, and Carp Leaping Over the Dragon Gate—we explored them all along the way There are 42 chrysanthemum art landscapes hidden along the three ancient mountain trails. Layers of chrysanthemums in yellow, pink, and creamy white fill the mountain with a sweet, fresh fragrance. We also strolled through the Elegant Market and the Chrysanthemum Market, featuring tea, snacks, and local handmade crafts—it's a leisurely way to enjoy the mountain scenery. We even stumbled upon a matchmaking event with red strings for blessings—the atmosphere was wonderful. Enjoying the autumn colors of the mountains and sea while immersing ourselves in the park with the kids, this is probably the peak of autumn family outings.

Hi, I'm Zao'an. This is my third year exploring off-the-beaten-path and fun travel destinations in Jiangsu and Zhejiang!

If you don't like crowds and love nature and ancient charm, just follow me~👋 Same old rules: I'm all about sincere sharing—no misleading photos🙅‍♀️ 💧Many are places even locals don't know about, and there are few tourists even during holidays 💧They are all preserved ancient towns, buildings, and temples that haven't been commercialized yet, and you can really feel the weight of history🏯 ❤️Ningbo · Ninghai My new favorite discovery this year~ It's hands down the most underrated travel destination in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai area!💥 It's so off-the-beaten-path that I couldn't even find decent photos of many of the ancient towns before I went, so I'll be the one to promote it~ In a nutshell: Dacai Village - Aohu Village - Qintan Village - Longgong Village are must-visits✅ If you have time: Xiyou Temple, Guangde Temple, Xiapu Village, and Chongxing Temple are worth a visit 🌟I previously shared a comprehensive [Ninghai Guide], and I've also written about each location individually. Tianyige Museum

Tianyi Pavilion is quite nice. The day I went was misty and rainy, which was lovely. They offer free guided tours on their official WeChat account; just follow the steps. It's good value for money and I recommend it.

Tianyige and Moon Lake Scenic Area

Stepping into Tianyi Pavilion, the strongest impression isn't of a bustling, trendy tourist spot, but rather a quiet, profound atmosphere, imbued with the tranquility of a scholarly atmosphere. The guided tour was incredibly vivid and detailed; a guided explanation is essential to understanding the historical and cultural origins of this type of museum.

Ningbo Songlanshan Coastal Tourist Resort

The sea here is incredibly clear, a vibrant blue like a giant sapphire, and the sand is so fine it feels like walking on cotton. The Asian Sailing Center's architecture is also very distinctive, perfect for taking amazing photos. Highly recommended for anyone looking to relax and unwind!

The Old Bund

This trip with my two children on the Three Rivers Night Cruise was definitely a delightful surprise. The cruise departs from the Old Bund Wharf, a 50-minute journey traversing the Yaojiang, Fenghua, and Yongjiang rivers. Over ten bridges, including Lingqiao and Qinqiao, are brightly lit, and the reflections of the Corn Building and the Catholic Church on the river create a dreamlike atmosphere. The cabins are spacious and stable, so there's no need to worry about the children getting bumped or hurt. Stepping onto the deck and enjoying the summer night breeze is incredibly pleasant. The onboard audio guide narrates Ningbo's history in a captivating way, which fascinates the children and provides them with a glimpse into the local culture. The overall pace of the trip is relaxed and not tiring. The only downside is the short queue for boarding during peak season. Enjoying the blend of ancient and modern scenery on both banks while feeling the evening breeze is a fantastic family experience and definitely worth a visit to Ningbo.

Former Residence of Chiang Kai-shek

Those who enjoy modern Chinese history should definitely visit this place. You can learn about Chiang Kai-shek's ancestral home and relatives. There are four locations, including Chiang's former residence and Wenchang Pavilion. The streets are bustling with many food stalls.

Xikou-Tengtou Scenic Area

Xuedou Mountain Scenic Area boasts beautiful scenery, with mountains, water, and the Great Maitreya Buddha. Chiang Kai-shek's former residence is full of the charm of the Republic of China era and is worth a visit. I bought a combined ticket for the attractions; you scan it before entering each individual attraction, and it includes the shuttle bus within Xuedou Mountain, which was generally reasonable. The only downside was the cable car down and back from Qianzhangyan, which was a bit expensive. Currently, the small train is out of service; the main attraction after going down is the waterfall. The waterfall is quite spectacular. A round-trip cable car ride of 30 yuan per adult would be much more cost-effective, since the lower section is temporarily closed and you can only return.

Dongqian Lake

Dongqian Lake Scenic Area is very large. A day's bike ride on an electric scooter, going counter-clockwise, covers 32 kilometers. Because the scenic area is so large, I think there are two main ways to experience it. The first is to take the subway from Ningbo city center to and from Dongqian Lake. You can either cycle the entire area or focus on specific spots. The second, and also recommended, option is to drive there, rent a car, or rent an electric scooter. I suggest finding a hotel near the lake, whether it's a budget chain or a four- or five-star hotel. Personally, I recommend staying at the Hilton Hotel, or looking for a lakeside café in Limin Village. These kinds of guesthouses cost between 400 and 600 yuan. Alternatively, you can stay at a Home Inn near the Dongqian Lake subway station for around 200 yuan. The best way to experience Dongqian Lake is to explore several cafés, whether you want to spend money or simply enjoy a relaxing experience. You can leisurely sit there, enjoy delicious food, chat with friends, or simply daydream for an afternoon. Then, if you wish, watch the sunset or sunrise before going out for a bike ride, or simply take a taxi to Hanlin Old Street or climb the mountain to overlook Dongqian Lake (where your name is located). Overall, it's a fairly pleasant place to visit; there's no need to rush. It's more suitable for a genuine vacation than a special forces trip or a checklist-style tourist experience.

Xiangshan Global Studios

I went on the 6th of the National Day holiday, and surprisingly, it wasn't crowded. The park is large and spacious. The weather was sunny and the flowers were in full bloom. There were many interactive activities, making it lively and fun. However, I felt the selection of food and drinks was rather limited.
