Fenghuang Ancient Town

Fenghuang Ancient Town

3.5
2.6/5
52 reviews
Fenghuang Town is located on the southern slope of Qinling Mountains, surrounded by mountains and rivers. The three rivers of Shechuan River, Zao River and Shuidigou River meet here to form a delta. It was called "Sancha River Mouth" in Tang and Song Dynasties, "Shechuan River Township Capital" in Yuan Dynasty, and "Shechuanli" and "Shangmengli" fifteen years after Chenghua in Ming Dynasty (1479 AD), and was renamed "Shechuanli" and "Shangmengli" during the Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty. Phoenix Mouth" was renamed "Phoenix Town" in 1941. The winding streets of Fenghuang Town Old Street and the old houses of Ming and Qing Dynasties scattered on both sides are the distinctive features here. The traditional handmade papermaking and forging here still follow the pattern of the past. More than 60 dwellings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties are still well preserved in this ancient town, which is more than 2,000 meters long from east to west. There is a slate-covered creek along the main street, and another perpendicular to it runs through the town, forming a cross-shaped water system. The streets on both sides of the old street are full of pavements, and behind the pavilions are residences. The gate facing the street is generally made of sturdy and wear-resistant walnut wood or lacquered wood, dyed with earth paint, bright, clean and bright; the gate pier is made of stone carving flowers. The wooden houses in Fenghuang Town are relatively small, with exquisite and reasonable design, good rainproof, moisture-proof and fireproof performance. Compared with the traditional northern houses, there are many characteristics of southern houses. Walking on the old street of Fenghuang Town, you will clearly feel the difference between the buildings on the old street and the Guanzhong dwellings. From the appearance, it is more like a Huizhou dwelling, with pink walls and green tiles, decorations on both sides of the ridge, lotus or plum blossoms in the center, and animal ridges or dragon heads on both sides. Many houses are three-in and three-open, and the three yards are raised floor by floor. Such a design is more suitable for excess Shaanxi and facilitates drainage. There are many silk pressing workshops in Fenghuang Town, and the silk fabrics here are made of local pressed silk. The old trade of blacksmiths still remains.Zhashui · 30.4 km from downtown

Shaanxi History Museum

9.5
4.8/5

Shaanxi History Museum is a large modern museum built after China's reform and opening up and officially opened in 1991. The building was designed by architect Zhang Jinqiu and adopts a Tang-style architectural layout of "central hall and four corner towers," with a symmetrical central axis and a clear hierarchy of primary and secondary structures; in 2016 it was included in the first batch of the "Chinese Architectural Heritage of the 20th Century" list. Shaanxi was once the political center of dynasties such as the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang, and the museum's collection spans a million years of history, covering categories such as Shang and Zhou bronzes, pottery figurines of successive dynasties, Han and Tang gold and silver wares, and Tang tomb murals, with a total of over one million items. The permanent exhibition "Ancient Civilization of Shaanxi" follows a chronological main line and presents the historical process from prehistoric Lantian Man to the eve of the Opium War across three galleries, with the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang periods as the focus. The east and west sides of the central hall each host a thematic exhibition: on the west side, "Treasures of the Great Tang: Hejiacun Hoard Unearthed Artifacts Exhibition" concentrates on fine gold and silver wares of the High Tang, while on the east side, the "Tang Dynasty Mural Treasures Gallery" displays authentic murals removed from Tang tombs, with subjects covering figures, architecture, ceremonial guards, and more, making it a uniquely distinctive category of the museum's collection. Among the many artifacts in the museum, several are particularly notable. The agate cup with gold-inlaid beast head, from the Hejiacun hoard, is carved from a single piece of banded agate into the form of a curved-horn beast head, resembling Central Asian rhyton cups, and is one of the first batch of cultural relics prohibited from being exhibited abroad. The tri-color glazed camel carrying musicians figurine vividly recreates the lively scene of musicians playing and singers performing on a camel's back, with bright glaze colors and figures with distinct expressions. The Empress's Seal is made of Western Han Hetian mutton-fat jade and carved with a chi-tiger knob, and is the only known actual jade seal of a Han dynasty empress discovered to date. In addition, the gilt silver flask with a dancing horse holding a cup design, the celadon ewer with an overhead handle and bottom-filling design, and the black-glazed oil-spot bowl each have their own distinctive features. The gold and silver wares unearthed from the Hejiacun hoard are concentrated in the thematic gallery and are a highlight of any visit; visitors are advised to allow time to examine them closely.Xi'an · 61.7 km from Zhashui

Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum

The Qin Shihuang Mausoleum Museum (Terracotta Army) is a large-scale archaeological site museum built on the site of the burial pits of the Qin Terracotta Army, located about 1.5 kilometers east of the Qin Shihuang Mausoleum mound. In March 1974, farmers in Xiyang Village accidentally unearthed fragments of terracotta warriors while digging a well, and archaeological exploration confirmed Pit No. 1. In 1976, Pit No. 2 and Pit No. 3 were successively discovered north of Pit No. 1, bringing this army that had been sleeping for more than two thousand years back to the light of day. The discovery of the Qin Terracotta Army is hailed as "one of the great archaeological discoveries of the 20th century." Pit No. 1 is the main military formation among the three pits, stretching over 200 meters from east to west, and is estimated to contain approximately 6,000 terracotta warriors and horses. Looking down from the edge of the pit, armored warriors, chariots, and terracotta horses are arrayed in actual battle formation facing east. A closer look reveals that each figure is unique in its facial features, hairstyle, beard, and even hand gestures. The terracotta figures were originally painted, but much of the paint has peeled off and discolored due to fire and prolonged burial. Pit No. 2 is L-shaped, with crossbowmen, cavalry, and chariot soldiers arranged in a mixed formation. The vividly depicted kneeling archer was unearthed here. Pit No. 3 is smaller in size; the unearthed ceremonial guards and chariots have led scholars to believe it served as the command post for the armies in Pit Nos. 1 and No. 2, an ancient term for a "military headquarters." The pits also yielded bronze swords, spears, lances, crossbows, and numerous arrowheads, many of which remain sharp even after more than two thousand years, demonstrating the exquisite metallurgical craftsmanship of the Qin Dynasty. The Terracotta Army and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor at the foot of Mount Li were originally one entity. After ascending the throne at the age of thirteen, the First Qin Emperor began constructing the mausoleum, conscripting hundreds of thousands of laborers and continuing the construction for more than thirty years. The Terracotta Army, which used terracotta warriors to replace human sacrifices, was the underground guard that protected this imperial mausoleum. To avoid crowds during your visit, consider starting with Pit 3 and Pit 2, and then leisurely experiencing the awe-inspiring sights of Pit 1 at the end. After viewing the terracotta pits, you can take the attraction shuttle bus to Lishan Garden, where the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor is located. The Acrobatics Terracotta Pit, the Civil Official Terracotta Pit, and the Bronze Chariot and Horse Museum are all located within the park. The two painted bronze chariots and horses, cast at half the scale of the real chariots, are exquisitely crafted and adorned with dazzling gold and silver ornaments, making them well worth a special trip to see.Xi'an · 79.4 km from Zhashui

Niubeiliang Forest Park is truly a hidden gem, a natural oxygen bar that no one knows about. Xi'an is especially hot, so I looked up nearby summer resorts, and they were really cool and refreshing. Hiking and playing in the water was so much fun!

My friends from out of town brought me here. Besides the cave, there are other entertainment options inside the park. You can hike while enjoying the beautiful scenery. However, there are quite a few paid attractions, like elevators, which all cost money. The only free option is a two-legged stool. As a local, I felt the prices were a bit expensive. But for tourists who enjoy hiking, it should be a pretty good choice.

I was just playing around and took few photos. Overall it was ok. It took about an hour to complete the experience. If you walk the Brave Road, it will take more than two hours. Because I brought my child with me, minors are not allowed to experience the Brave Road, so my child and I didn't do that. His father went and said it was quite thrilling. He finished the four items of the Brave Road in about an hour. The environment and scenery here are pretty good. My child likes to play, but he didn't play enough in one time. I don't know if he can play it again. We came out directly after playing. It would be better if we can play it again. It also depends on each person's progress. My child is more courageous and always rushes very fast. I can't catch up with him. He said he would challenge the Brave Road when he grows up, haha

#### Review of the Qin-Chu Ancient Road in Zhongnan Mountain, Zhashui (Historical Perspective) The Qin-Chu Ancient Road in Zhongnan Mountain, Zhashui, is not only a scenic hiking route but also a "living fossil" carrying a rich history. As a section of the historically vital "Yigu Road," connecting the Qin and Chu states, it has witnessed thousands of years of vicissitudes. This ancient road stretches 15 kilometers from Xiaoyukou in Yingpan Town, Zhashui County, Shaanxi Province in the south to Tianduchi in Chang'an Prefecture in the north. It was once a crucial transportation route between the ancient Qin and Chu states. Walking along this ancient post road, one can almost hear the echoes of history and feel the bustling activity of merchants and soldiers. The ancient road not only boasts stunning natural scenery but also preserves many precious cultural relics, such as Zhao Kuangyin's gambling den, Wang Bozi's shop, and the ruins of the Flower Gate Tower. These relics, like pearls scattered in the river of history, string together vivid historical stories, adding a rich cultural atmosphere to the ancient road. Embarking on the ancient Qin-Chu road is not only a journey to conquer mountains and get close to nature, but also a cultural exploration that transcends millennia. Here, you can touch the traces of history, feel the sedimentation of time, and experience the unique charm of "a mountain dividing north and south, a step across a thousand years."

Nothing is more beautiful than Zhongnan Mountain. The Condor Heroes wandered the world, and at the foot of Zhongnan Mountain lay the Tomb of the Living Dead. Finally, I arrived at the place the martial arts world had spoken of, fulfilling my childhood dream of becoming a martial arts hero. Zhongnan Mountain is an incredibly beautiful place.

The Shaanxi History Museum is absolutely worth a special trip! The ticket for the Treasure Gallery included a guided tour, and I also visited the Basic Gallery, making for a very fulfilling experience. The Treasure Gallery's exhibits are of extremely high quality, ranging from Shang and Zhou bronzes to Tang Dynasty gold and silver artifacts—each piece is a national treasure. The He Zun bronze vessel, the gilded silver ewer with a dancing horse holding a cup, the gold-inlaid agate cup with an animal head… even through the glass, you can feel the exquisite craftsmanship and majesty that transcends a thousand years. The Tang Dynasty artifacts, in particular, are breathtakingly magnificent. The Basic Gallery is arranged chronologically, from the Lantian Man to the Sui and Tang Dynasties, systematically tracing the development of Shaanxi and even the entire Chinese civilization. After seeing it, I truly understood the significance of Shaanxi as the "Capital of Thirteen Dynasties." The guided tour was a huge bonus. The guide didn't just read from a textbook; instead, they brought out the historical stories and craftsmanship details behind the artifacts in a lively and engaging way. Many details that I would have missed on my own were highlighted, making the experience far exceed my expectations. It's recommended to make reservations in advance via their official WeChat account. Tickets for the Treasure Gallery are in high demand, so it's best to book early. If you can only visit two museums in Xi'an, the Shaanxi History Museum is a must-see!
