Things to do in Yi County

As one of the eight major Liao Dynasty architectural masterpieces, the magnificent Mahavira Hall and its Buddha statues are well worth the ticket price. A thorough visit and exploration, learning about the story of this thousand-year-old temple, makes the experience even more vivid and intuitive; this dialogue with history is itself the meaning of travel.

I'm so happy to have the opportunity to visit Fengguo Temple again. It's truly beautiful, especially since it just reopened after renovations in October. Overall, it's very nice, and I highly recommend and love it. I'm planning to visit the Ten Thousand Buddha Caves later; I hope it will be a wonderful experience as well. Today has been a wonderful day because of this wonderful trip.

Located in the core area of ​​the Jehol Biota, the Yixian Sino-German Paleontological Museum houses many precious fossils and also offers a simulated excavation experience. The museum is small but packed with valuable information, and it's quiet and not crowded. It's a convenient stop after visiting Fengguo Temple to experience the wonders of life in western Liaoning millions of years ago.

The highlight is that it is an octagonal, thirteen-eaved, dense-eaves ancient tower relic from the Liao Dynasty. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit. The brick carvings of the celestial musicians, Buddha statues, etc. on the base and body of the tower are exquisite and delicate. The bracket structure is quite characteristic of ancient buildings. It is not far from Fengguo Temple and can be visited together.

It's definitely worth a visit. The Liao Dynasty architecture is breathtaking. The nearby Wanfo Hall is quite dilapidated, but it deserves to be rated as a good tourist attraction in Liaoning.

The old Yixian Railway Station is now a local landmark and a must-see attraction for tourists visiting Yixian. The old railway station is a Japanese-style building with yellow walls and a green roof. Originally built elsewhere, it opened in 1921 and was moved to its current location in 1937. In 2019, to preserve this historical building, which was originally slated for demolition due to railway renovations, it was moved 70 meters eastward to its current location. The old Yixian Railway Station is now listed in the fourth batch of China's 20th-century architectural heritage list.

It's definitely worth a visit to see what the Marshal's Mansion used to look like; it was quite luxurious. However, the experience is less enjoyable if it's crowded, as the interior is basically just a rushed, shoulder-to-shoulder tour.
