WenShuFang

WenShuFang is an antique-style cultural block in Qingyang District, Chengdu, adjacent to Wenshu Monastery. Opened in 2006, the Wenshu Monastery area, where it is located, is one of Chengdu's three major historical and cultural conservation zones, alongside Kuanzhai Alley and Daci Temple. The block primarily features architecture in the traditional Sichuanese residential style, with teahouses, snack shops, intangible cultural heritage workshops, and Hanfu stores nestled among gray-tiled roofs, wooden doors, and courtyards. It is also a popular spot for locals to drink tea and chat. The main streets in the district each have their own distinctive features: Wuyuegong Street is dedicated to intangible cultural heritage, with workshops showcasing traditional crafts like Shu brocade, Shu embroidery, lacquerware, bamboo weaving, and silver filigree, where artisans can often be seen working on-site; Nanyue Lane is a hub for Hanfu culture, with a constant stream of people dressed in Hanfu taking photos against the backdrop of ancient-style gate towers and red walls, and the street also offers Hanfu rental and makeup services; Jinma Lane is the heart of old Chengdu flavors, where time-honored snacks like imperial walnut cakes and Zhang Liangfen from Dongzikou can be enjoyed from one end of the street to the other. When you need a break, you can stop at a teahouse for a bowl of covered-bowl tea. The district also hosts Sichuan opera performances, where you can enjoy face-changing, fire-spitting, and long-spout tea art while sipping tea, fully immersing yourself in Chengdu's unique blend of leisure and liveliness. When touring, you might as well combine this place with the nearby Wenshu Monastery into one route, visiting the ancient temple first and then exploring the alleys, which can be completed in half a day. Travelers planning to take Hanfu photos are advised to allocate more time for makeup, styling, and framing.China · Chengdu

Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street

7.9
4.7/5
5.6k reviews
Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street is the long-established core commercial district in Chongqing, located on the Yuzhong Peninsula. Centered around the Monument to the People's Liberation at its heart, it extends along several streets including Minquan Road, Minzu Road, Zourong Road, and Bayi Road. The monument is an octagonal tower-shaped structure, originally built to commemorate the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and later renamed the Monument to the People's Liberation. Its four-sided clock at the top makes it a highly recognizable landmark in Chongqing, and most travelers visiting here take photos in front of it. Shopping and food are the two main themes of the pedestrian street: the area around the monument is densely packed with shopping malls and traditional department stores. When tired from shopping, visitors can turn into Bayi Road Snack Street, where sour and spicy noodles, small glutinous rice balls, and wontons line the street, allowing them to sample all of Chongqing's snacks while strolling. Hidden around the commercial district are Luohan Temple and Nengren Temple on Zhonghua Road, two ancient temples nestled among skyscrapers, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling city. At night, the pedestrian street takes on a different vibe: building screens and neon lights illuminate the area, and the square in front of the monument becomes a popular spot for night photography. Every New Year's Eve, many locals gather under the monument to listen to the New Year's bell and count down together—a tradition that has continued for years. The crowd is enormous that night, so those wishing to experience the atmosphere should plan ahead. A short 15-minute walk from the monument leads to Hongya Cave, making it ideal to combine both locations into a nightlife route.China · Chongqing

Manhua Sea of Flowers features a "flower sea amusement park" and is themed around "enjoying a floral lifestyle." It has planned and developed multiple functional sections, including flower sea viewing, fine flower exhibitions, science education and study tours, wedding events, specialty cuisine, and family-friendly recreation. It artistically layouts more than 20 distinctive attractions such as the Energy Flower Tower, the Winding Flower Sea, the Millennium Peony Garden, and the French Rose Garden. It is a leisure flower-viewing destination near Chengdu with distinctive features, diverse functions, a vivid layout, and a relatively large scale. It is a frontrunner in Chengdu's rural tourism and a renowned modern version of the "City of Flowers" in Chengdu, known as "the backyard of Chengdu's residents," and enjoys widespread acclaim across the country. Manhua Sea of Flowers is renowned for its flowers, with breathtaking floral spectacles every season. In spring, a million tulips imported from the Netherlands bloom alongside over a thousand varieties of flowers such as cherry blossoms, peonies, and herbaceous peonies blanketing the hillsides; in summer, more than 700 varieties of roses bloom proudly; in golden autumn, a million lilies in a riot of colors join vibrant dahlias to create an exotic floral wonderland; in winter, over a hundred varieties of flowers such as Iceland poppies and violets burst with life. Throughout the year, more than 5,000 varieties and over 3 million flowers come together to form a breathtaking world of flowers! Cherry blossom festival In late spring and March, under clear skies, flowers bloom vibrantly like rosy clouds. The joy of admiring cherry blossoms lies in the splendor of their brief, magnificent bloom. During the cherry blossom season at Manhua Sea of Flowers, countless pink blossoms exude fragrance, drifting with the wind and rain, soaking into the floral thoughts of countless Chengdu residents. Tulip flower festival In spring, at Manhua Sea of Flowers, where millions of flowers are in full bloom. Over a million tulips imported from the Netherlands, in a riot of colors and outstanding beauty, are bursting into bloom. In addition, more than twenty varieties of flowers, including cherry blossoms, Iceland poppies, violets, narcissus, and hyacinths, blanket the hillsides and together compose the spring of Manhua. Rose festival In May, Manhua Sea of Flowers is a world of roses, where over 600 varieties and tens of thousands of European roses in different colors, fragrances, and moods bloom romantically. "Pierre de Ronsard" is not a gem but is more precious than one, like a girl's first kiss—tender, slightly sweet, and utterly ethereal! Throughout Manhua Sea of Flowers, there are Pierre de Ronsard walls, Pierre de Ronsard pillars, Pierre de Ronsard avenues... Over a million Pierre de Ronsard roses together create a romantic atmosphere! Summer flowers festival In June, the mountainsides are already covered with blooming sunflowers. Tens of thousands of sunflowers merge into a golden ocean. The sunflowers here are imported from abroad; a single plant bears dozens of flower buds on its slender stems, radiating tremendous strength. Faith, radiance, pride, loyalty, and adoration—these embody the love of the sunflower. The flower of light, the flower that brings beautiful hope, those who receive the blessings of this flower also possess a heart as bright and joyful as the sun. Lily festival Lilies have long been known as the "fairy in cloud garments." Because of their elegant and pure appearance, graceful blooms, and rich fragrance, they are widely beloved. Lilies symbolize "a harmonious union lasting a hundred years" and "all things going as one wishes," and since ancient times the Chinese have regarded them as an indispensable auspicious flower for weddings. Manhua Sea of Flowers also hosts a "Lily Festival." Chrysanthemum exhibition The chrysanthemum festival at Manhua Sea of Flowers overturns the traditional chrysanthemum viewing experience. A professional floral team spent months reshaping individual chrysanthemums and combining them into mascots from Chinese folk culture. The autumn chrysanthemums across the garden bloom together under the bright sun, each one charming and graceful, blooming with abandon in this golden fall. Some are elegant and understated, while others are vivid and eye-catching. Violet flower festival Violets have lush blooms, vibrant colors, rich fragrance, a long flowering period, and long inflorescences, making them beloved by many flower enthusiasts,Manhua Sea of FlowersThe violets are gorgeous and colorful, blooming everywhere. White, purple, and pink ones are all blooming together. Violets symbolize eternal beauty and love. They are the embodiment of love, and also represent its love for travelers.Chengdu · 98.2 km from Santai

Wenshufang — a colorful historic quarter right next to Wenshu Monastery. Narrow traditional-style lanes, souvenir shops, teahouses, and plenty of street food. Noisy, crowded, and full of atmosphere — a striking contrast to the silence behind the monastery walls. A great spot to stroll, grab a bite, and pick up souvenirs.

Recommend going as soon as it opens as that is when the giant pandas are most active. For the red pandas, it might take multiple loops of their free roaming area to actually spot one but once you do it’s incredibly worth it.

The entire scenic area isn't very large; you can take an elevator to the 14th floor. The 4D cinema is a separate ticket and not worth seeing, but the night view is decent. The dance and folk music performances are quite professional.

Having passed through Jianmen Pass, no obstacle in life is insurmountable. Jianmen Pass was one of the attractions we had been longing to visit. This time, we used both our hands and feet to traverse the "bird path," truly experiencing the difficulty of the Shu Road. The large and small tunnels were both quite unique, while the Stone Bamboo Shoot Peak and the One-Line Sky were rather ordinary. If you don't want to take the bird path, you can climb the cliffside corridor, while the gate tower stands tall and imposing.

Forests, lakes, grasslands, yaks, and most importantly, snow-capped mountains! What a wonderful surprise! We encountered the first snow of November, like stepping into a fairytale world! We ate and stayed in Changpinggou, and easily explored Shuangqiaogou on our own. We'll definitely come back!
