Leshan Giant Buddha

The Leshan Giant Buddha, also known as the Lingyun Giant Buddha, is situated on the cliff of Qiluan Peak on Lingyun Mountain at the confluence of the Min River, Qingyi River, and Dadu River in Leshan, Sichuan. It is a colossal seated stone statue of Maitreya carved during the Tang Dynasty, standing approx. 70 m tall, with a single instep spacious enough to accommodate over a hundred people. Legend has it that the turbulent waters at the confluence once frequently capsized passing boats. To calm the currents, the monk Haitong of Lingyun Temple initiated the carving of the Buddha. Over several generations, craftsmen continued the construction, which took approx. ninety years to complete. On the cliff to the right of the Buddha, an inscription from the Tang Dynasty titled "Jiazhou Lingyun Temple Great Maitreya Stone Statue" remains to this day, revealing its original name—the Great Maitreya Stone Statue of Jiazhou Lingyun Temple. The common route to visit the giant Buddha is to first arrive at Lingyun Temple beside the Buddha's head, then descend along the winding Jiuzhaigou plank road built against the cliff. View the Buddha's spiral hair buns and robe folds up close, and reach the platform at the Buddha's feet to look up at the full figure. Only then can one truly appreciate the grandeur of "a mountain being a Buddha, and a Buddha being a mountain." Lingyun Temple has continuous incense offerings, and many travelers also join their palms here to pray for blessings. For a different perspective, take a boat cruise or view from the riverside of Leshan ancient city: the continuous mountain outlines of Wuyou Mountain, Lingyun Mountain, and Guicheng Mountain resemble a giant reclining Buddha facing upward, with the grand Buddha seated precisely at its chest—creating the marvel of "Buddha within Buddha." The river view also captures the grand Buddha's full profile alongside the scenery of three rivers, making it especially effortless for travelers with limited stamina or those seeking panoramic shots.Leshan · 1.1 km from downtown

After a 90min bus journey, 20min brisk walk and cable car all the way to the golden summit and were rewarded with an amazing view of the golden statue. We were blessed with good weather that day and although a little misty, it made Emei feel even more spiritual and serene. Another must visit place even if you are not religious.

The shuttle bus takes nearly two hours one way and can be taken from the high-speed rail station, which is very convenient. There are large and small cable cars, and I highly recommend the large one, which is like a bus suspended in mid-air and is very stable. You can spend about two hours exploring the Golden Summit. There are many food options on the summit. It's a bit cold at the top, several degrees lower than at the foot of the mountain, so wear warm clothes. The Golden Summit is magnificent and worth a visit!

Riding the Golden Summit Cableway, where over a hundred people share a giant cabin, you travel through the clouds with complete peace of mind! Thanks to human engineering technology, the arduous journey of traversing mountains and valleys is condensed into just a few minutes, allowing you to calmly watch the sea of clouds and mountains rush towards you, making it easier to appreciate the beautiful scenery!

The scenery was beautiful, and there was plenty of time to take photos on the boat. The Buddha statue was breathtaking. However, the parking lot was a bit far from the pier, and waiting for the shuttle bus was time-consuming. It would be even better if the boat ticket price were lower.

Wanfu Cave is definitely worth a visit! The cave is incredibly cool and refreshing, a natural air conditioner. The stalactites and stalagmites are in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and the lighting creates a wonderful atmosphere. The walkways are well-maintained, making it easy for both the elderly and children to explore. It's a great place to escape the summer heat and relax; I highly recommend it!

Great! Fun and delicious food! Long live Mount Emei! The cable car staff were attentive and helpful. The mountain was completely shrouded in fog, making it impossible to see the sunrise. It was quite nice though, as the sun didn't come out until noon. I saw the sun and each individual sun.

Baoguo Temple - where it all begins and endsYou know, there's a special magic to traveling returning to where you started and realizing you're a completely different person. That Mount Emei, which seemed like a pretty picture on the first day, has now become a part of you. That your knees remember every stone, and your lungs remember every breath of air at an altitude of three thousand meters. Baoguo Temple awaited us below. And it was the perfect end point.Baoguo, also known as the "Temple of Gratitude to the Motherland," stands at the very beginning of the trail, at the foot of the mountain. On the first day, we were in such a hurry to get going that we left it for last, like a delicious dessert saved for last. And we did the right thing. The temple is about 450 years old. It was founded during the Ming Dynasty, in the 16th century, and since then it has faithfully fulfilled its purpose: meeting pilgrims, seeing them off to the top, and welcoming them back when they descend, tired and happy. Can you imagine how many stories it has witnessed? How many knees, like mine, have trembled before its gates? In the Hall of the Seven Buddhas, I encountered the purple bronze Huayan Pagoda. The same one, with 14 stories and 4,700 small Buddhas on its body. But the temple's crowning glory is, without a doubt, the bell. A huge bronze bell, weighing over 10 tons. Locals call it the "Bashu Bell King" (named after the ancient kingdom of Sichuan). Transportation: Take bus #5 in Emeishan; it goes directly to the temple. The price is only 1.5 yuan. It's almost ridiculous: 1.5 yuan for a ticket to a place that will nourish your memories for years. Buses run every 10 minutes, so you won't have to wait even during rush hour. You can, of course, take Didi—it's about 20 yuan and takes 25 minutes. But if you're not as exhausted as we were from descending the mountain, the bus is a more authentic option. You'll get locals to join you, you'll enjoy the scenery outside the window.

A light drizzle shrouded Mount Emei, with white mist drifting through the mountains, creating a scene of ethereal beauty. Ancient trees and babbling brooks added to the serene tranquility amidst the rain. Winding stone steps disappeared into the sea of clouds, and the distant sound of temple bells echoed softly in the mist. Though the grandeur of a clear sky was absent, the misty, Zen-like atmosphere offered a unique and serene charm to Mount Emei.

"Jiazhou has many ancient towns, and Suji stands out among them." Suji Ancient Town has fertile land, convenient water and land transportation, and is a gathering place for merchants. It was an important water and land port in Leshan during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and also a must-pass place for pilgrims and lay Buddhists to worship Mount Emei.

I had long heard that Jinkou Grand Canyon was one of "China's Top Ten Most Beautiful Canyons," and after visiting it myself, I understood that this praise was well-deserved. Standing on the riverside boardwalk, the surging waves of the Dadu River roared below, the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks deafening. Looking up, the cliffs on both sides were as steep as if carved by a knife and axe, with a vertical drop of over a thousand meters. The reddish-brown rock layers intertwined with the tenacious green vegetation growing in the crevices, creating a magnificent and awe-inspiring landscape. The viewing platforms along the way are excellent photo spots. No need for elaborate composition; every snapshot is a masterpiece worthy of being shared on social media. Near the Railway Corps Museum, the Chengdu-Kunming Railway relics embedded in the cliff face are particularly moving. The rusty rails and the remnants of tunnels cutting through the mountains silently tell the story of the builders' arduous journey of overcoming obstacles and constructing bridges, adding a profound cultural dimension to this natural wonder. The scenic area wasn't too crowded, making for a pleasant and relaxing visit without the hassle of crowds. The only thing to note is that some sections have steep steps, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Visitors with elderly people or children should slow down. Whether you're a hiking enthusiast who prefers natural scenery or a history buff, you'll find something to enjoy here. Highly recommended!
