Jiayang Little Steam Train is a classic narrow-gauge train running near Jiayang Coal Mine in Qianwei County, Sichuan Province. The gauge of the small train is nearly half the gauge of a national standard train. It takes about 2 hours to round-trip along the line. It is the only narrow-gauge steam train in the world that is operated regularly. While sitting on a small train, the rocking and swaying as the train starts and stops is clearly evident, you can truly sense its age. During flower season, you can see a large terrace fields of blooming flowers along the way. The Jiayang Train is an excellent choice for experiencing railway culture.Qianwei County · 14 km from downtown

The architectural layout of Luocheng in Qianwei County is extremely unique. Luocheng Ancient Town is situated on a hilltop, with its streets and houses resembling a sailing ship. The origin of this small town is quite interesting. Legend has it that during the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty, a scholar from another place arrived here and saw the local people suffering from a lack of water, making life very inconvenient. He could not help but recite a few lines: "Luocheng dry wharf, clothes and hats will not last long. To have water become a river, Luocheng must be built into a boat. If a boat travels in water, there must be water." The locals actually believed that remodeling the architecture was a good way to solve the water shortage problem, so they donated money to build it, and the result is this rare town, unique in the world. This boat-shaped ancient town is over 2,000 m long and approx. 650 m wide. The main street runs north-south, narrower at both ends and spacious in the middle. The street surface undulates, just like a deck amidst waves; the theater stage in the middle of the street towers high, like a raised sail. And the Luocheng Ancient Town-Lingguan Temple at the end of the street resembles the cabin of a ship. On both sides of the street, there is a row of shaded corridors, each approx. 200 m long and approx. 6 m wide, resembling a ship's canopy, also known as "Boat Hall Street." This surviving old street still retains some of the cultural features of old Sichuan from the Ming and Qing dynasties.Qianwei County · 21 km from downtown

Jiayang's Suoluo Lake was created after the construction of a hydropower dam on the Mabian River. The lake features a broad surface and very clear water. You can take a tour boat onto Suoluo Lake and enjoy the scenery with green hills on both banks, a perfect scenic vista of lake and mountain. When you reach the Suoluo Ravine, you will find the ravine covered in lush suoluo trees (spinulose tree fern), which sway gently in the breeze. The Jiayang Suoluo Lake Tourism Scenic Area is like a virgin old-growth forest, quiet and beautiful.Qianwei County · 14.7 km from downtown

Leshan Giant Buddha

The Leshan Giant Buddha, also known as the Lingyun Giant Buddha, is situated on the cliff of Qiluan Peak on Lingyun Mountain at the confluence of the Min River, Qingyi River, and Dadu River in Leshan, Sichuan. It is a colossal seated stone statue of Maitreya carved during the Tang Dynasty, standing approx. 70 m tall, with a single instep spacious enough to accommodate over a hundred people. Legend has it that the turbulent waters at the confluence once frequently capsized passing boats. To calm the currents, the monk Haitong of Lingyun Temple initiated the carving of the Buddha. Over several generations, craftsmen continued the construction, which took approx. ninety years to complete. On the cliff to the right of the Buddha, an inscription from the Tang Dynasty titled "Jiazhou Lingyun Temple Great Maitreya Stone Statue" remains to this day, revealing its original name—the Great Maitreya Stone Statue of Jiazhou Lingyun Temple. The common route to visit the giant Buddha is to first arrive at Lingyun Temple beside the Buddha's head, then descend along the winding Jiuzhaigou plank road built against the cliff. View the Buddha's spiral hair buns and robe folds up close, and reach the platform at the Buddha's feet to look up at the full figure. Only then can one truly appreciate the grandeur of "a mountain being a Buddha, and a Buddha being a mountain." Lingyun Temple has continuous incense offerings, and many travelers also join their palms here to pray for blessings. For a different perspective, take a boat cruise or view from the riverside of Leshan ancient city: the continuous mountain outlines of Wuyou Mountain, Lingyun Mountain, and Guicheng Mountain resemble a giant reclining Buddha facing upward, with the grand Buddha seated precisely at its chest—creating the marvel of "Buddha within Buddha." The river view also captures the grand Buddha's full profile alongside the scenery of three rivers, making it especially effortless for travelers with limited stamina or those seeking panoramic shots.Leshan · 41.1 km from Qianwei County

Situated between the peaks of the scenic area of Leshan Giant Buddha, Oriental Buddha is an antique stone Buddha theme park. The site was built in May 1994, integrating religious art, carving art, and garden art. It uses natural mountain extensions to form spectacular Buddhist scroll promenades. If the material is carved in stone or bronze, it fully embodies the styles of Chinese Buddhism and Southeast Asian Buddhist art. It is magnificent and uniquely spectacular.Leshan · 40.5 km from Qianwei County

Mount Emei is one of the four famous mountains of Chinese Buddhism, and it is also the temple of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. There are numerous Buddhist monasteries in the mountains that combine to give this place a holy and serene atmosphere. The scenery in the mountains are beautiful. The four seasons each have their own characteristics. If you are lucky, you can see the sunrise and sea of clouds. Do note that the monkeys in Mount Emei are notoriously naughty. They are not afraid of people, and even take the initiative to ask tourists for food.Emeishan City · 68.6 km from Qianwei County

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is home to many adorable giant pandas, allowing you to observe these adorable national treasures up close. Located in the northern suburbs of Chengdu, about 10 kilometers from the city center, the base is designed to completely simulate the wild environment of giant pandas, featuring lakes, streams, bamboo forests, and lawns. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has numerous "panda villas," which are enclosed recreational areas for the pandas. These villas include open-air enclosures and indoor rest areas. When the weather is cool, the pandas play in the enclosures, and visitors can observe them through the fences. When the weather is hot, the pandas retreat to the air-conditioned rest areas, where they can only be viewed through glass. Can I see pandas at the new Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding? Are there any other things to do? You can also see pandas at the new Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, including our meritorious pandas. Their home is bigger and their range of activity is wider. Seeing the pandas is the main attraction, but there's plenty more to see and do. A must-see is our landmark building – the popular Panda Tower. Located at the highest point of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, this new landmark stands 69.8 meters tall with 11 floors. Its exterior resembles a giant bamboo shoot, while the interior is shaped like a blooming hibiscus flower. Inside, 81 platforms offer visitors panoramic views of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding from multiple angles. There is also the art museum (new building) located in the dense forest area of the new district, which uses emerging exhibition methods such as multi-sensory interaction, lighting installations, interactive installations, and thermal sensing to create an immersive exhibition scene for visitors. The new area of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding plans to set up rich and diverse science popularization exhibits and interactive facilities in four major areas, allowing visitors to learn about giant pandas while observing them and enhancing their interactive experience. During animal and environmental protection-related festivals, themed science popularization activity will also be held for visitors of different ages, such as interactive lectures, parent-child science popularization activities, and mystery games— activity that combine education and entertainment. If you get tired of playing, you can also listen to the musical "Panda": it vividly presents to the audience the harmonious coexistence, sharing of nature, and love of life of magical animals, represented by giant pandas, in the beautiful and fertile land of Chengdu, Sichuan. Through the form of a musical, it reflects the livable landscape of Chengdu, Sichuan, and the simple and peaceful life of the local people. In terms of total area, the area has increased from the original 1,035 mu to 3,570 mu, expanding 2.5 times. The expansion fully followed and utilized the original topography and landforms, leveraging the multi-layered landscape of mountain valleys and streams to create 11 giant panda venue, multiple science education venue, and a pedestrian street for visitors. After completion, the expansion project can accommodate no fewer than 180 giant pandas, as well as red pandas, golden monkeys, and other related animals. To date, several giant pandas and red pandas have already moved into their new home in the expanded area, and more rare animals such as golden monkeys await their arrival. Are the supporting facilities in the new district complete? The new area is designed to 5A attraction standards and is equipped with ample visitors facilities. In addition to basic facilities such as sightseeing vehicles and restrooms, it also includes numerous tourist facilities in the hillside commercial street, the exit commercial street, and scattered commercial areas. The planned businesses include restaurants, souvenir shops, postal services, cinemas, theaters, and outdoor education facilities, which can meet the needs of visitors in terms of quantity . After nearly a year of operation, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, addressing the issues of the large area and uneven distribution of facilities in the new area, has added several beverage vending machines, drinking fountains, and shared convenience facilities to improve the visitors experience. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding will further supplement and improve visitors rest facilities, information facilities, and guide tour facilities to better meet the needs of visitors. The expanded Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding will help Chengdu become a model area for harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, improve conditions for giant panda research and conservation, protect biodiversity, fully demonstrate the brand value, cultural value, and economic value of giant pandas, and shape the cultural tourism brand of "Tianfu Sanjiuda, An Yi Zou Sichuan" (meaning "Tianfu Three Greats, Enjoyable Sichuan"). New business formats and projects such as the Panda Art Museum, IMAX Cinema, and Panda Theater are now open, satisfying visitors' needs for food, drinks, entertainment, shopping, and leisure while watching giant pandas. First, it is more conducive to panda scientific research and conservation. As a nationally protected animal, the giant panda is gentle, adorable, and endearing, making it beloved by the people. However, with the continuous increase in the giant panda quantity, the old area of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding faces increasingly prominent problems in panda husbandry and management, such as high population density and insufficient animal welfare. The completion and operation of the new area of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding can effectively solve these problems, comprehensively improve the level of giant panda scientific research and conservation at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, and effectively guarantee the welfare of the animals in the park. Secondly, it will be more conducive to enhancing people's sense of happiness and fulfillment. As socialism with Chinese characteristics enters a new era, the principal contradiction facing Chinese society has transformed into the contradiction between the people's ever-growing needs for a better life and unbalanced and inadequate development. Currently, tourism has become a rigid demand for a better life in a moderately prosperous society and is widely favored by the people. The construction of the new Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding aligns with the new trend of transformation and upgrading in people's tourism consumption, effectively meeting the people's high-quality and diversified needs for tourism consumption, and enhancing their sense of happiness and fulfillment. Third, it will be more conducive to creating a distinctive giant panda IP and contributing to the construction of a park city demonstration area. Since its establishment in 1987, the old area of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has achieved internationally recognized success in giant panda scientific research and conservation, science education, cultural tourism, and international exchanges. It is widely recognized both domestically and internationally as a leading demonstration unit for ex-situ conservation of captive giant pandas, boasting strong scientific and technological capabilities, numerous scientific achievements, and effective application and promotion. It has been successively awarded titles such as "National Advanced Collective in Science Popularization Work," "National Youth Science and Technology Education Base," "National Science Popularization Education Base," "National Environmental Protection Science Popularization Base," and "Cross-Strait Exchange and Cooperation Base." It has twice undertaken key cultural exchange projects funded by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and twice received the United Nations' "Global 500" award. The construction of the new area of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding will effectively enhance China's tourism brand image, build a distinctive giant panda IP with international recognition, and help Chengdu accelerate its construction as a world-class cultural city and a park city demonstration area implementing the new development concept.China · Chengdu

The best time to visit is in March when the rapeseed flowers are in bloom, but it's also well worth going now. Experience the last operating steam train on the mainland, watching it puff out steam as it races through the sky – a truly moving experience that feels like traveling through history. You can also see the Soviet-style architecture in the town. It's definitely worth a visit.

Nowadays, there is a kind of bridge in Shipping Street. Every family is playing, but most of them are old. They have worked hard all their lives. They should enjoy their happiness. Mosaic buildings have blocked the old streets of Luocheng, and the streets covered with bluestone slabs have long been cement roads. At the intersection of New Street and Old Street, there are various grocery stores, flies restaurants and ice-cream vendors. Some people eat pork head on chestnut wooden tables. Others lie on high stools and idly shake the cattail fan with cloth strips on the handle. Originally, there were some old and famous shops disappeared nowadays, such as Sanyuan, Fengtai, Heng Youheng, Sineng Hall and Chang Qingyuan. Instead, there were various clothing stores, snack shops, Department stores, daily groceries, hardware stores, barbershops, burial shops, hotels, teahouses, shoe shops, cinemas, singing halls and clinics, of which the number of teahouses was the largest. There are more than a dozen. Others like to play chess. I thought they all like bridge. It was the first time I saw bridge. I stopped and watched it for a while, but I couldn't understand it, so I went on wandering. Uncle's shoes are all made by him. How many shoes can he make by hand now? Only in this ancient town can we see it. Just as we were about to leave, an old grandmother told us that she could take us to see the whole town. After discussion, three people were 10 yuan, and the old grandmother was not easy. Grandma brought us an abandoned factory. Looking at it, we can see the whole town.

The little train rattles and rocks back and forth, and it feels like I'm back in my childhood, going back to my hometown for the New Year. Woo... I can smell the pungent smell of burning coal all the way, and the hard seats are made of pure wood.

The scenic area, originally rich in interesting resources, has become rather thin due to its self-promotion as a trendy tourist destination. It is suggested that it return to its original purpose, avoid getting lost in the noise of the times, and allow the Buddha's reputation to match its reality.

Jiayang Bajiaogou, Huangcun Mine, from a mining area to a scenic spot, I experienced going down into a coal mine. Because it was the off-season for tourism, it became a scenic spot for me alone. When I left the mine, I didn’t see other tourists.

My uncle took me to the mine to see the deep, damp and low working environment and experience the hardship of the old society. After watching the grandfather and grandson pushing the coal basket, my uncle repeatedly told me to eat more and gain more weight, otherwise I can't help at all!

Wanfu Cave is definitely worth a visit! The cave is incredibly cool and refreshing, a natural air conditioner. The stalactites and stalagmites are in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and the lighting creates a wonderful atmosphere. The walkways are well-maintained, making it easy for both the elderly and children to explore. It's a great place to escape the summer heat and relax; I highly recommend it!

The shuttle bus service to Mount Emei is very convenient, going to all the visitor centers. It costs 90 yuan all-inclusive. We stayed near the Baoguo Temple visitor center, where the bus ride to Leidongping parking lot takes about 2 hours. From there, it's about a 30-minute walk to the Golden Summit cable car.

You can observe giant pandas very closely; the enclosure is divided into indoor and outdoor sections. The overall design is beautiful and perfect for taking photos. If you want to see the popular panda Hua Hua, you need to enter the park early to queue. The red pandas are also very cute. I highly recommend buying a sightseeing bus ticket for easy transportation and a comfortable, low-impact experience. When there are crowds waiting for the sightseeing bus, the wait can be quite long.
