Kokusai-dori is a bustling street in downtown Naha, approx. 1.6 km long, lined with restaurants, general stores, drugstores, and souvenir shops. The street's name originates from the Kokusai Theater cinema opened after the war, and it gradually developed into a lively commercial street, earning it the nickname "Miracle Mile." You can see Shisa sculptures on the street, and various Okinawan specialty goods and traditional craft shops line the street, showcasing a distinct local flair. Visitors can purchase local specialties here such as Shisa figurines, Awamori, and brown sugar, or enjoy local dishes like Okinawa soba. Every Sunday, vehicle traffic is restricted on some sections of the street, making it convenient for pedestrians to stroll. The street also connects to covered shopping streets like Heiwa-dori, which are filled with shops selling traditional clothing, pottery, food, and local ingredients, continuing the daily commercial atmosphere of downtown Naha.Naha · 17.9 km from Okinawa City

American Village

American Village is a coastal shopping and entertainment district themed after the American West Coast. It was developed on reclaimed land from a former US military airfield. In the early years, it gradually attracted American-style shops and restaurants to meet the needs of US military personnel and their families. Today, with its streets full of graffiti murals, neon signs, and vibrant retro architecture, it has become a destination for shopping and ocean views in central Okinawa. The bustling heart of the district is Depot Island, where colorful buildings, palm trees, and coastal boardwalks connect, providing photo opportunities everywhere. Nearby, American Depot is famous for its vintage clothing, military surplus, and imported goods, making it perfect for browsing. Dining options also have a strong American flair, with taco rice, burgers, steaks, and Blue Seal ice cream—which originated at local US military bases—all available. Entertainment facilities like cinemas and game centers are also interspersed throughout. Around dusk is an especially charming time for this district. Chatan Park, located on one side, features Chatan Park Sunset Beach, which faces the west coast and is a popular spot for watching the sunset; in summer, you can even swim there. After nightfall, the neon lights and decorations gradually light up, presenting two different atmospheres between day and night. It is worth noting that the large Ferris wheel that once appeared in many promotional photos has been dismantled, so there is no need to look for it.Chatan · 5.5 km from Okinawa City

Naminoue Shrine is an iconic shrine in Naha, built atop a sea cliff formed of coral reef rock. The vermilion shrine hall and the deep blue sea contrast to create a striking view. The exact date of its founding is unknown. It is said to have been a sacred site where locals prayed to "Nirai Kanai," the divine kingdom beyond the sea, and later enshrined the Kumano Gongen deities. During the Ryukyu Kingdom period, this shrine was deeply revered by the royal government and ranked as the first of the eight Ryukyu shrines, long serving as a place of faith for praying for safe voyages, bountiful harvests, and national peace. The shrine hall retains architectural features such as a red-tiled roof, white walls, and vermilion pillars, while the stone lions at the entrance also reflect the Ryukyuan cultural style. Locals often affectionately call it "Nanmin-san." When visiting, you can climb the stone steps to the top of the cliff to enjoy the shrine architecture and coastal scenery. At Naminoue Beach next to the shrine, you can look up at the shrine hall on the cliff, which offers a different perspective.Naha · 18.4 km from Okinawa City

Kadena Air Force Base is the largest strategic air base of the United States in the Far East. Kadena is located in the southwestern part of Okinawa, where the United States has run since World War II. The base has complete facilities, including barracks, communication facilities, residential areas, golf courses, cinemas and schools. Combat aircraft are also deployed at the base. The third floor of Daozhi Station in Security Hill is a good observation point. You can see the rise and fall of fighter jets, hear the roar, and it seems that the ground is also vibrating. Through the barbed wire, it is a military center. Many people regard Security Hill as a place to consider the relationship between the United States and Japan. The US military base on Okinawa is displayed in front of people, which is undoubtedly a very intriguing thing.Chatan · 4.2 km from Okinawa City

Shenglian Castle Ruins is a stair-shaped ruins of 4 pieces of flat land designed according to the style of stairs. The ancients cleverly used the natural terrain and built stone walls even on the cliffs. A large number of ancient Japanese tiles have been unearthed in the ruins of the city, and rock caves used to set beams and columns have been discovered, which proves that this place was once a prosperous city dwelling with a tile-roofed building, which was rare at that time. The square in front of Shenglian City offers a panoramic view of the city ruins. One of its features is the stone wall built in gentle curves. The figure standing majestically on the hill with the blue sky as the background resembles a huge sailboat. On the upper floor with an elevation of 98 meters, you can enjoy a 360-degree wide-angle view. Since Shenglian Castle was built using the mountains, there are steep mountain roads everywhere.Uruma · 7.3 km from Okinawa City

Okinawa memorial park is located by the sea in the northern part of Okinawa's main island. Built in August 1976 on the former site of the 1975 Okinawa international ocean exposition, the park carries the theme of "sun, flowers and ocean." The grounds are broadly divided into three zones: ocean, history & culture, and flowers & greenery, featuring an aquarium, dolphin shows, botanical gardens and beaches - perfect for a half-day visit. The ocean zone is particularly popular: Okinawa Churaumi aquarium, the park's flagship attraction, houses whale sharks and manta rays in its massive tank; the adjacent dolphin theater continues shows dating back to the exposition era; the manatee house hosts manatees gifted by the Mexican government, while the turtle house observes turtle growth and dolphin lagoon offers close-up dolphin viewing; emerald beach is an artificial coral sand beach within the lagoon, swimmable in summer. The history & culture zone's ocean culture museum displays hundreds of exhibits including large canoes, showcasing Okinawa's maritime connections with the South Pacific and Southeast Asia, along with an observatory; nearby Okinawa traditional village recreates a 17th-19th century Ryukyu kingdom settlement with red-tiled houses, elevated granaries and windbreak trees, accompanied by Soro botanical garden featuring over twenty local plants mentioned in ancient ballads. The flowers & greenery zone's tropical dream center maintains year-round orchid and tropical plant displays in greenhouses, while the tropical/subtropical urban greening garden and sunset plaza make worthy stops. The expansive park requires walking between zones, with electric carts available. While most visitors head straight for the aquarium, Okinawa traditional village offers a more relaxed pace with trilingual audio guides in historic houses and occasional sanshin performances, providing deeper immersion into Ryukyu's maritime heritage.Motobu · 40.7 km from Okinawa City

Its eye-catching symbol is the large Ferris wheel with a diameter of about 50 meters. The American Village has entertainment facilities mainly based on 3D images, an 8-screen movie theater, a shopping mall, a bowling alley, an American restaurant, a recording studio, an entertainment center, an imported grocery store, etc., and there are also complex facilities for sports.

When talking about the most beautiful sea areas in Japan, Okinawa has to be mentioned. The Blue Caves here are also one of the best attractions. Here you can not only enjoy this 35-meter wide and 6-meter deep cave by snorkeling or diving. In this blue dream world, you can see various creatures such as sea bream, goldfish and hedgehog shrimp living here. Every year during the peak season, tourists from all over the world come to experience it.

Cape Zanpa Lighthouse is the only lighthouse in Okinawa that you can climb. Its pure white exterior stands out brilliantly against the backdrop of the azure sea and sky. On the way to the lighthouse, you'll pass "Kinjo Parker," a food truck converted from an abandoned bus, which sells light meals, drinks, and ice cream—a lifesaver in this sweltering weather. Unfortunately, we arrived during maintenance and couldn't climb to the top, but the azure sky and crystal-clear water were enough to keep us taking pictures for most of the day.
