•234m seaside tower, Fukuoka landmark •The cityscape of Fukuoka and the beautiful scenery of Hakata Bay unfold in a panoramic view Fukuoka Tower is located by the seaside and stands 234 m tall, making it a landmark of Fukuoka. The tower's body, covered with 8,000 mirror panels, is designed as a soaring triangular prism that radiates light day and night with an extraordinary presence. For enjoying the night view, there is no better place in all of Fukuoka. Take the elevator to the observation deck at 123 m, and through the 360-degree floor-to-ceiling windows, the dazzling lights of the entire coastal city flicker right beneath your feet. Night light show: walk down one floor along the stairs to reach the café, order a cocktail and sit for a while, quietly taking in Fukuoka's bustling night scenery. In addition, on evenings during Tanabata or Christmas, the mirror windows are decorated with neon lights, presenting an impressive nighttime light show. A dating spot for couples: on the 3rd floor observation room there is also a heart-shaped arch; when a couple holds hands and touches the arch, they will be surrounded by a heart shape that lights up. △ In "Fukuoka panorama," you can enjoy the sparkling Hakata Bay, the enchanting sunset, and the romantic Fukuoka night view through time-lapse videos... △ Enjoy lunch and coffee under the blue sky, and in the evening, savor a romantic moment while gazing at the sparkling night view.Fukuoka · 4.7 km from downtown

Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

4.7/5
728 reviews
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is a historic shrine in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, built over the grave of Sugawara no Michizane, and is an important center for Tenmangu shrines across Japan. Sugawara no Michizane was exiled to Dazaifu due to political strife during the Heian period and passed away there. He was later revered as the deity of learning and culture, making this a long-standing place of worship for those praying for academic success and success in exams. Upon entering the grounds, the Shinji-ike Pond and the three arched bridges spanning it form an iconic view. The pond is named for its resemblance to the character for "heart," and the three bridges symbolize the past, present, and future, respectively. Several stone statues of reclining sacred oxen are scattered throughout the grounds, reflecting the traditional connection between the ox and Sugawara no Michizane. The Tobiume (Flying Plum Tree) beside the main hall carries the legend of a plum tree that flew here from Kyoto in a single night. It is the first to bloom each year, adding vitality to the spring. The garden is planted with approx. 200 varieties and 6,000 plum trees, creating a particularly rich landscape during the blooming season, and you can also enjoy irises in early summer. Traditional festivals and cultural events are also preserved here. The Usokae ritual held every January involves exchanging wooden bird carvings to express wishes, and the Kyokusui no En (Winding Stream Banquet) is held on the first Sunday of March, where participants dressed in Heian-period attire recite poems by the flowing water, recreating the elegance of ancient banquets. After your visit, you can stroll along the approach and taste Umegae Mochi, a grilled rice cake with a crispy exterior and red bean filling, to experience the local traditional food culture.Dazaifu · 14.5 km from Fukuoka

Fukuoka Castle Ruins

Fukuoka Castle Ruins are located west of the Naka River and east of Ohori Park. This is a nationally designated historic site, also known by the names "Fukuoka Castle Ruins" and "Stone Castle." Kuroda Nagamasa was granted the 520,000-koku fief of Chikuzen for his distinguished military service at the Battle of Sekigahara. Starting in 1600, he spent 7 years building this castle. The entire structure is a large-scale hirayamajiro (flatland-mountain castle). Due to wars and various destructive factors, only the Otemon Gate, Den Shiomi-Yagura Turret, the Nagayamamon Gate of Mori Taibei's residence, the Honmaru (main bailey), Ninomaru (second bailey), and Sannomaru (third bailey) stone walls remain. Additionally, the castle grounds house an athletics stadium, the Heiwadai Baseball Stadium, and the Heiwadai Athletic Stadium, which is famous as the starting point for the Fukuoka International Marathon. It is said that the castle was never built with a main keep (tenshukaku), but it was famous for having three keep foundations—large, medium, and small—and 47 watchtowers. The moat contains sedge, a natural wild vegetation monument designated by Fukuoka Prefecture, and the Man'yo Tanka Inscription stands within the castle grounds. Recently, ruins of the Korokan Ruins Museum (Korokan Ruins Museum), a guesthouse from theDazaifu Tenmangu Shrineera, were discovered near the Heiwadai Baseball Stadium. Today, the site, which includes remnants such as the main gate, is open to the public as Maizuru Park.Fukuoka · 1.8 km from downtown

One of my favorite parks placed in the city, Ohorikoen is quite massive, making it a good place for picnics, anytime strolls, jogging, and also has some swan boats for a fun ride in the lake during daytime. If you want to chill for a coffee there is Starbucks.

This place is truly worth visiting repeatedly; each visit offers a different experience. The scenery changes with the seasons, so there's always a surprise no matter when you come. The overall pace is leisurely, perfect for letting go of all the hustle and bustle and slowly appreciating the beauty around you. The local atmosphere is vibrant, and you can feel the unique warmth and life of the place. After coming here, I realized that the best scenery isn't about crowded hotspots, but rather this kind of comforting and reassuring atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Kushida Shrine is a must-visit shrine when you come to Hakata. You must come to see the Gion Yamakasa. Although I didn't come in July, I didn't see the big Yamakasa in the city, but I can see the Yamakasa in Kushida Shrine. Read the introduction According to the legend of the shrine, Kushida Shrine was founded in the first year of Tenpyo Hoji (757) and has been the general guardian of Hakata since ancient times. The Hakata Festival is a representative festival of Fukuoka City and is well-known throughout the country.

Of the castle ruins, nothing remains except the stone foundation. The feudal lord was pragmatic, building only three castle towers: large, medium, and small. Tamon Turret is overgrown with weeds; the other turrets have only their foundation stones left, while others are merely imaginary.
