The Amnye Machen Snow Mountain, also known as the Maji Snow Mountain or Maji Gangri, is located in the northwest of Maqin County, Golog Prefecture. The Amnye Machen Mountain is a large mountain at the source of the Yellow River, about 28 kilometers long and 10 kilometers wide. The Yellow River makes a 180-degree turn at the Maji Snow Mountain and flows southeast. The main peak, Maji Gangri, is 6,282 meters above sea level and is regarded as a sacred mountain by Tibetan compatriots. Every year, a large number of pilgrims climb mountains and wade through water, and go to worship devoutly. The Amnye Machen Mountain is majestic and magnificent. The mountain is composed of sandstone, limestone and granite, and consists of 13 peaks. The Harong Glacier on the northeast slope is 7.7 kilometers long, with a vertical height difference of 1,800 meters. It is the largest and longest glacier in the Yellow River Basin. The strange glacier world is in various shapes and is crystal clear. The abundant meltwater from ice and snow gathers into countless trickling streams, winding and interlaced, and lakes of all sizes are shining. It is said that there are many mountain gods in the Anima Snow Mountain. They live in the magnificent nine-story white jade pavilion. Among them, the Animaqing Peak is the largest mountain god. Tibetan compatriots believe in the legend of the Animaqing Mountain. During the worship season, believers come in an endless stream, especially in the Tibetan calendar "Horse Year", when hundreds of thousands of people circumambulate the mountain, because circumambulating the mountain once in the Horse Year is equivalent to 12 circumambulations at ordinary times. When circumambulating the mountain, pilgrims carry simple luggage, cooking utensils and food, brave the wind and rain, wade through mountains and rivers, sleep in the open air, and walk around the mountain with tenacious perseverance to worship for a week. Only then can they express their sincere worship and achieve the purpose of removing sins and sublimating their souls. It usually takes seven or eight days to walk around the mountain on foot, five days on horseback, and more than 60 days to kowtow (prostrate oneself). During the pilgrimage, pilgrims will encounter many strange natural phenomena, such as strange landforms, rugged rocks, unpredictable weather, the sound of clear streams, waterfalls of the Milky Way, various wild animals, etc. All of these seem to be gifts given to them by God. Animaqing is a dreamlike world.Maqin · 79.4 km from downtown

Lajia Temple is located at the foot of Aniqungong Mountain, Lajia Township, on the north bank of the Yellow River in Maqin County, Qinghai Province. It is located in a canyon, with low altitude, humid climate, mostly fertile fields along the coast, and beautiful and charming natural scenery. Lajia Temple, also known as "Jiaxiang Temple", is a very famous Gelug monastery along the Yellow River. "Laga" is a Tibetan transliteration, referring to the four dislikes, that is, the elk. It is said that when Raja Monastery broke ground, a four-looking elephant was found, so the monastery took its name from it. The monastery was founded by Arou Geshe and is a monastery of Sera Monastery. The main Buddha statues enshrined in the temple are Sakyamuni, Tsongkhapa, Padmasambhava, Thousand Eyes and Thousand Hands Avalokitesvara, Longevity Buddha, Six Arms Anti-Dharma Protection and so on. The architecture of the temple has both the characteristics of Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and the architectural style of Han monasteries. The whole temple building forms a small building complex, similar to the architectural style of the classical gardens in the Central Plains. The whole monastery is surrounded by mountains and rivers, and the terrain is beautiful. Backed by the verdant pines and cypresses of Amenilegong Mountain, the scenery is very pleasant under the flowing silk-like streams. The monastery has a large scripture hall "Tuosanglin", which is in charge of the whole monastery. There is also a Bodhi Pagoda. Among them, the Shakyamuni Hall was built in the Qianlong era and has a very long history. There have been many eminent monks in the temple in the past dynasties, and many writings have been handed down. Among them, Xihe Zuosangre's "Summary of Calendar", Xiangsa's "Theory of Demonstration", "Theory of Cause" and "Complete Works of Saikangwa" have considerable influence in Tibetan areas. The sutra printing house of the monastery once kept more than 50,000 pieces of Muhai steamed buns such as "Ganzhuer".Maqin · 44.8 km from downtown

Chaka Salt Lake is a 3,000-year-old salt field with highly saline water that naturally crystallizes into a white surface, beautifully reflecting the sky, clouds, and mountains on the opposite shore. Visitors can walk barefoot on the lake to observe and photograph their reflections, creating a mirror-like illusion of the sky. On sunny days, Chaka Salt Lake boasts highly crystallized waters where you can see a thin layer of brine covering the pristine white salt lake, creating clear and pure reflections. In the sculpture area of the attraction, you'll find the stone-carved Goddess of the Salt Lake, along with around a dozen other massive salt sculptures depicting figures like Maitreya Buddha and Genghis Khan. Walk along the path to the lakeshore, and you'll see the pristine white Chaka Salt Lake, perfect for exploration. A railway extends into the lake, with its starting point serving as the boarding area for the small train. Ride it to the deeper parts of the lake, where the scenery is even more breathtaking.China · Ulan

Kumbum Monastery is one of the important monasteries of the Gelug (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism and the birthplace of Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Yellow Hat sect. The monastery features magnificent architecture, abundant treasures, and a strong religious atmosphere, making it one of the more popular travel destinations in Xining. Overview of the visit It has distinct differences in architectural layout compared to Han Chinese Buddhist temples in inland China: the complex here is not symmetrically arranged along a central axis. The monastery is an ancient architectural complex composed of numerous halls, scripture halls, stupas, and colleges, with each sutra hall, main hall, and stupa irregularly distributed on a small hill. Travelers can explore the site in a relatively free manner rather than following a straight path along a central axis. The Great Golden Roof Hall of Kumbum Monastery is the center of the entire architectural complex. It is said that Master Tsongkhapa was born here, and when he was born, his umbilical cord blood dripped on this spot, from which a bodhi tree grew. Later, a stupa was built around the tree, and a monastery was constructed, hence the name. Believers hold that this tree and stupa are the embodiment of the master. The three unique features of the attraction: butter sculptures, murals, and appliqué embroidery. Butter sculptures are made by mixing butter with various pigments to mold and carve into figures of Buddhas, people, flowers, birds, animals, and pavilions. Travelers can admire exquisite butter sculptures at the butter sculpture hall inside the temple (located far from the main gate). Vibrant centuries-old murals can be appreciated in the main halls, corridors, and front galleries of the temple. Appliqué embroidery involves cutting colored satin into desired shapes, such as Buddha figures or animals, stuffing them with wool or cotton, and embroidering them onto cloth hangings. In the temple's great sutra hall, two rare large appliqué embroidery pieces—"Sixteen Arhats Displaying Divine Powers" and "Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea"—hang on either side. The four major religious festivals (based on the lunar calendar): 1. Cham dance (14th day of the first month) and butter sculpture exhibition (15th day of the first month); 2. Cham dance (14th day of the fourth month), Buddha unveiling, and Cham dance (15th day of the fourth month); 3. Buddha unveiling, Cham dance (6th day of the sixth month), and golden Buddha procession (8th day of the sixth month); 4. Full-day Buddha unveiling (22nd day of the ninth month) and Cham dance (23rd day of the ninth month). During these festivals, activities like Buddha unveiling and ritual dances take place, attracting large crowds of devotees and travelers, creating a lively atmosphere.China · Xining

Qinghai Lake is called "Qinghai Lake" in Tibetan (meaning "blue sea"). Located in the northeastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, within Qinghai Province, it is formed byQilian MountainsDatong Mountain,Riyue Mountain and South Qinghai MountainFormed by fault subsidence, it is one of China's largest inland lakes and the origin of Qinghai Province's name. The lake covers a vast area, with a circumference of approx. 360 km. Its waters are boundless, azure, and ethereal. Surrounded by mountains, the lakeshore blends into expansive grasslands. Qinghai Lake boasts spectacular views and numerous attractions, making it a key destination in Qinghai. Natural environment: Qinghai Lake features a plateau continental climate with abundant sunlight and intense radiation. Winters are cold, summers are cool, warm seasons are brief, and cold seasons are prolonged. Spring brings frequent strong winds and sandstorms. Rainfall is scarce, concentrated in the warm season, with distinct wet and dry periods. This climate creates unique beauty in each season. The lake's color shifts with weather and light, sometimes displaying multiple hues in a single day. Scenery varies by season, with the ideal visiting period from April to August. July and August are particularly stunning, as vast rapeseed fields bloom along the shore, their golden yellow contrasting beautifully with the endless blue waters. In addition, when Qinghai Lake is frozen for thousands of miles in winter, you can also experience a different kind of natural grandeur. Historical legend: It is said that over 1,000 years ago, the Tang Dynasty and Tibet formed a marriage alliance, with Princess Wencheng marrying the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. Before her departure, the Tang emperor gave her a sun-moon treasure mirror that could reflect images of her hometown. On the journey, the princess missed her hometown and took out the mirror, indeed seeing the long-lost Chang'an. Tears welled up in her eyes. However, she suddenly remembered her mission and resolutely threw the mirror away. Unexpectedly, when it hit the ground, a golden light flashed, and it transformed into Qinghai Lake. Driving along the Dema Expressway to Golog, we finally saw one of the four sacred mountains of Tibet—Mount Amne Machin. Unlike other famous snow-capped mountains heavily commercialized, this place retains a rare pristine tranquility. There are no crowds of tourists, only grasslands, prayer flags, and continuous snow-capped peaks, perfect for travelers who want to quietly appreciate the magnificent scenery of the plateau. The viewing platform next to the No. 1 Tunnel of the snow mountain offers an excellent free photo opportunity. On a clear day, the main peak of Amne Machin Kangri is fully revealed, with several glaciers cascading down the mountainside, their grey-white ice tongues stretching into the valleys. Below lies an endless alpine meadow, where yaks graze leisurely, and colorful prayer flags flutter in the wind—every snapshot is an atmospheric scene. If you're lucky enough to arrive at dawn, the sunlight bathes the snow-capped peaks, creating a breathtaking golden sunrise. If you want to get closer to the glacier, you can exit the expressway and head towards Damxung Glacier. However, please note that after leaving the main road, the road surface is mostly unpaved gravel with many curves, and it can easily become muddy in rainy weather, so drive with caution. Reaching the foot of the glacier requires a short hike. The area's altitude is generally above 4300 meters, so avoid running or fast walking, as this can easily trigger altitude sickness. Standing beneath the millennia-old glacier, you can clearly see crevasses and deep blue ice layers, hear the howling wind, and truly feel the immense power of nature. Let's discuss some objective challenges to the trip, which you should consider beforehand. The weather on the plateau is unpredictable; one moment it's clear and sunny, the next it can be shrouded in clouds, obscuring the entire snow-capped mountain and making it easy to miss your destination. Always check the weather forecast beforehand. Cell phone signal is intermittent in the heart of the region, so it's recommended to download offline maps beforehand. Amenities are very basic; there are few shops and restrooms along the way, so bring your own drinking water and snacks. Drones are strictly prohibited throughout the area; don't waste your trip. As a sacred pilgrimage mountain for Tibetans, please respect local customs. Circumambulate the mani stones clockwise, do not trample or damage prayer flags, and take all trash with you. There's no need to insist on reaching the depths of the glacier; a distant view of the sacred mountain from the highway observation deck is just as moving. More than a rushed sightseeing tour, Amne Machin is best experienced at a leisurely pace. Here, all the anxieties of city life will find peace before the majestic snow-capped mountains. Those who prefer off-the-beaten-path destinations and pristine highland scenery should definitely come; however, tourists seeking well-equipped and comfortable facilities should consider carefully.

During the off-season, there are few tourists at the scenic area, and many facilities are not in operation. The scenery is not at its best, but because there are few people, experiencing a solo walk around the salt lake is still quite enjoyable.

It's definitely worth a visit; it's truly breathtaking. Every detail is meticulously crafted, completely contrary to online claims of shoddy workmanship. The 600-meter-long mural is said to have taken 27 years to paint. I didn't spend the entire fourth-floor Tibetan cultural mural exhibition, but I saw the other exhibits. The guided tours all use headphones, but the volume is extremely low, making it difficult to hear the explanations. If you're just rushing through, don't bother renting a guided tour. However, if you want to take your time and spend an afternoon at each exhibit, it's well worth it.

As the birthplace and memorial monastery of Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, this historical and cultural site, over 600 years old, is a must-see. Photography of the stupa at the entrance is permitted, but not of the Buddha statues inside. The monastery currently houses over 1000 monks and more than a dozen Living Buddhas. While the throngs of worshippers are bustling, the atmosphere is peaceful and serene (perhaps the burning of large incense sticks is not part of the ritual). Many areas allow you to light lamps for blessings (20 yuan per person, depending on your conscience), and there are places to exchange change for prayers. Best of all, there are Chinese-language guided tours, and the guides are very professional; I learned more about Tibetan Buddhism than I did during my previous trip to Lhasa!

A trip to Qinghai will definitely include Qinghai Lake in the itinerary. The lake is vast, with a loop of over 300 kilometers. There's an annual cycling race around the lake, so the ecological environment and water quality are well-preserved. The officially developed area is Erlangjian, where there are many accommodations. The cliffs and Fairy Bay are on the opposite side. Heimahe is famous for its sunrise views. While passing by, I saw many new guesthouses still under construction; the accommodations there were previously quite basic. Due to weather conditions, our original itinerary for the lake loop was changed. We'll save the cliffs for another time. It's relatively close to Xining. The weather improved slightly when we arrived at Erlangjian. I took a peek at the lake from the viewing platform.

Buy tickets for the 9:00 AM bus from Xining Bus Station to Qinghai Lake. You can buy tickets through the Xining Bus Station's WeChat mini-program! The journey takes about 2.5 hours, with a stop at a service station for restroom use. Arrive around 11:30 AM. (There will be grasslands along the way; you can see them from the window.) The tour guide will assist with buying tickets on the bus, or you can buy them at the ticket center. Upon arrival, take a fast cruise to the island, then either the cruise ship to the island or a small train or bus to the lake. On the island, you can play in the sand and see seagulls and yaks. Plan your itinerary carefully; less than 4 hours for sightseeing will feel rushed.

The Plateau Wildlife Park is excellent. The snow leopards are adorable, and the giant pandas are also worth seeing. There are many different kinds of animals, and many of them are well cared for. The environment is beautiful, built on a mountain, and there is also a botanical garden to visit. The prices are very reasonable.
