🇹🇭 4-Day Thailand Trip: eSIM Review and Experience Sharing
During my four-day, three-night trip to Bangkok, Thailand, I opted for eSIMs provided by AIS or TrueMove (Thailand's two major telecom companies). Compared to traditional physical SIM cards, this experience truly made me say "I can't go back."
1. Why Choose eSIM? (Advantages)
* No Card Change, Zero Risk of Loss: The best part is that you don't have to spend ages poking around with a pin. My original Taiwanese SIM card can remain in my phone (with roaming data turned off), so I don't have to worry about losing that tiny card during my trip.
* Instant Use: Upon arriving at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), I didn't need to queue with other tourists at the telecom counters. As soon as I got off the plane, I turned on my phone's settings, and it automatically connected to Thailand's 5G network in less than a minute.
* Dual SIM Dual Standby: During my trip abroad, I was still able to receive SMS messages from Taiwan (very important for receiving SIM card verification codes!), and simultaneously use Thai data to check maps and order Grab.
2. Four-Day Usage Review
* Day 1 (Arrival): I scanned the QR code and installed the service in Taiwan. After landing, I restarted my phone, and the system immediately detected the Thai Telecom signal, allowing me to successfully call a taxi to my hotel.
* Days 2-3 (City and Suburbs): In Bangkok's city center, at department stores, Wat Arun, and even in slightly more remote suburbs, the network speed remained above 40-60 Mbps. Scrolling through social media and posting updates was completely smooth.
* Day 4 (Return Trip): Upon arriving at the airport, I simply turned off the service in my phone's settings; no need to find a trash can to dispose of the old SIM card.
3. Precautions and Tips
While eSIM is convenient, there are a few points to note:
