2025 Xianyang Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in July)
Xianyang (咸阳), once the capital of the Qin empire, China’s first feudal dynasty, is located in the “800-Mile Qinchuan (八百里秦川)” hinterland. Glorious Qin-era architecture can be seen everywhere in Xianyang, which boasts as many as 4951 cultural relics. On Wuling (五陵) Plain are the mausoleums of 28 Hang and Tang dynasty emperors, including Han Gaozu's Changling Mausoleum, Han Jingdi’s Yangling Mausoleum, Han Wudi’s Maoling Mausoleum, Tang Taizong’s Zhaoling Mausoleum, and Tang Gaozong and Wu Zetian’s Qianling Mausoleum. The presence of all these tombs has earned the area the moniker of “the Pyramid Capital of China.”

Waiting at Xi’an Airport? Visit Their Free Museum!
#airportovernight #xian #airport #museums #thingstodo
Tucked inside Xi’an’s new airport (Terminal 5, 4th floor), the Chang’an Everlasting Peace exhibition is a hidden gem where history meets modern travel. Step into a mini-museum showcasing ancient tombs, Tang dynasty relics, and even 2,000-year-old zodiac statues—all unearthed right under the airport!
Best part? It’s free for travelers! Snap selfies with artifacts, and peek into Xi’an’s Silk Road glory—all in 30 minutes or less. Don’t miss this bite-sized adventure while waiting for your flight!
Ancient vibes + airport convenience = a win for curious travelers!
It is worthy of being called Xi'an❗️The terminal has a museum, the only one in China
Just finished experiencing Xi'an T5 Terminal,
While being so angry that he rolled his eyes,
At the same time, I was amazed and screamed.
This wave must be talked about!
😣Slot points:
🌀Confusing airport instructions
Although there is domestic self-service check-in on the second floor, it is very slow. If you want to choose a safe exit, you have to go to the manual counter on the third floor.
🌀Museum visiting rules Schrödinger
The most outrageous thing is the museum on the 4th floor of the terminal! I saw before that you need to make an appointment in advance, but the number of places available each day is limited and it is almost impossible to get one. When I arrived at the museum entrance, I asked the lady if she could let me in to take a look. The lady told me that I could not enter without a reservation (I still had my boarding pass in my hand at the time), so I had to leave in shame. When I returned to the third floor, I overheard a volunteer telling another passenger that "passengers can queue up on-site to visit with their boarding pass on the day," and I was instantly speechless about the staff at the museum entrance. I returned to the museum, registered my boarding pass and was able to enter for the visit. I don’t know why this young lady kept blocking me with my boarding pass. After entering, I found that the exhibition area was indeed not big, but the exhibition layout was indeed exquisite. Xi'an is indeed a city where you can dig up cultural relics with just a shovel! Various jars, ornaments and figurines dug out during the airport construction were directly displayed in the display cabinets.
✨Highlights:
Aesthetics of the Tang Dynasty
The entire terminal is a collision of modern and classical elements, and the museum's bracket-arched wooden structure brings back memories of the Daming Palace. The "Hundred-Meter Long Scroll" in the departure hall takes the Qinling Mountains as its ancestral vein, showing the magnificence of mountains and rivers and highlighting the historical and cultural heritage of Chang'an.
Airport MixC takes off from the spot
Although the process tortured me thousands of times, the commercial area is really good! China Resources directly transformed this place into Airport MixC AIRMIXC, and its commercial positioning is close to MixC M1. The future brand business is worth looking forward to!
Summary of the guide
✅ Check-in: If you want to save time and check in luggage or need a seat at the emergency exit, go to the third floor → go through security and return to the second floor → the boarding gate is within 8 minutes’ walk
✅ Museum: Travelers do not need to make an appointment, boarding pass = admission ticket! Go directly to the 4th floor to queue up for entry
✅ Photo spots: Imitation Tang Dynasty bracket ceiling + "Hundred-meter Scroll" mural + runway stone floor tiles
Finally, I want to say,
T5 is like a proud and arrogant Tang-style beauty—she has good looks but a weird temper.
It is recommended that you arrive at the airport 2 hours in advance.
While complaining, exploring,
Maybe you can encounter a cultural relic-level surprise around the corner~

Xianyang! 1 hour drive from Xi'an! A great city with private hot spring courtyards!
We stayed in a courtyard in Xianyang!
🕷️Great location, very close to Huitong Night Market, only one or two stops away! Also very close to Fuyuan Square, very convenient for dining 🍲~ After dinner, you can take a walk along Xianyang Lake to digest, the night view is amazing, and then go back to the hotel for a hot spring bath ♨, it's so comfortable!
🕷️The private hot spring is outdoors, in the courtyard outside the room, and you can fill it twice a day, which is great. Many private hot springs can only be filled once. Afternoon tea 🍰 is also provided, it's very relaxing to enjoy afternoon tea 🍵 while soaking in the hot spring! It's also very photogenic 📷, so relaxing!
🕷️The staff are warm and attentive. Breakfast is delivered to the room in a wooden box, mainly Chinese style, with fruit 🍓 and yogurt, it's more comfortable to have breakfast on the bed while watching TV and enjoying the sun ☀ than having a buffet in the restaurant ✨.
📍Location: Binhe Road, Qindu District, Xianyang
The subway goes directly to my favorite ginkgo forest this year.
|A surprising discovery
Super niche, no one!!
The places I recently visited either didn't have enough leaves on the ground or the leaves on the trees had fallen off.
This is the place that made me say "wow."
Dense golden leaves
Crunchy ground
Because I was wandering around, it was almost dark when I arrived.
Unfortunately, I didn't capture its beauty.
📍Fengxi Cultural Park
🚇Take the subway to Fengxi Cultural Park Station
🚘There are many parking spaces on the roadside
🏕️Camping is allowed in the park

Xianyang Lake looks so nice no matter it’s day or night. People like walking along the lake and looking at the bridge.
Sometimes we can see people are flying kites, riding boats, cycling, jogging or just sitting on the benches and chatting.
In summer when the weather is very hot, spending time here makes you feel cool and calm.

Xi'an's Neighbour City
Location: Xianyang, Shaanxi province.
Getting there: Take a 20 minute taxi from Xi'an airport or simply take the subway from the center of Xi'an...it goes all the way to Xianyang city. The subway stop that links with Xi'an is called Feng He Sen Lin Gong Yuan.
Getting off at Feng He Forest Park station, it's a short walk to the center of Xianyang. In xianyang go for walks along Xianyang lake and admire the beauty of the still water. Walk along the mighty bridges and admire the beautiful lights on the road. There are also nice parks nearby with historical statues to learn more about.

Han Yang Ling
Everyone heard about terracotta warriors in the mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang Di. Yes, that was pretty impressive. But Xi'an and Xianyang cities have a lot of other tombs with remarkable artifacts. Today I would like to introduce one more emperor tomb - Han Yang Ling located in Xianyang city, which is very close to Xi'an and together they are forming biggest agglomeration in Shaanxi province.
The mausoleum has thousands of small figures and sculptures. As in a case of terracotta warriors, all these servants, warriors and animals should accompany their lord in the spirit realm, according to the ancient beliefs. I am very happy I found the time to visit this remarkable place.

Most Beautiful Sunset in Xian
From winter to spring, you can often see the most beautiful sunsets. This time on the high-speed rail from Yan'an to Xi'an, just in time for the setting sun, the setting sun like a salted egg yolk fell on the vast countryside and the whole process of sunset was appreciated from a different angle on the high-speed rail. If you want to travel to Shaanxi, it is recommended to take the high-speed train from Yan'an to Xi'an, and then from Xianyang International Airport to other cities.

"Where is the devil's coming to the world" has recently been particularly hot. In the story, Taiyi was ordered to take Lingzhu to the son of Li Jing's son in Chentangguan. In the office of Yang Hucheng, there were statues of Zhou and Yang who shared the country's scenes, which truly reproduced the historical scene at that time. The former residence of Jing is very beautiful, and it has attracted many directors to take photos here. For example, "Tang Taizong Li Shimin", "Yan'an", "Defend Yan'an" and so on are all taken here. Most of the buildings in the former residence are buildings in Song and Ming and Qing Dynasties. Tickets cost 20 yuan. There are many tourist attractions in Sanyuan County. As the name suggests, the Zhou Family Courtyard is the compound of Zhou Jiazhi. The residents of the village are all descendants of the famous Northern philosopher Zhou Dunyi. They live together as a kinship family and have been through 27 generations.
Zhou Dunyi takes the lotus self-telling, writes "Ai Lian said", and says "The silt is not dyed, and the sputum is clear and not demon".
Since then, "Lotus" has become the spiritual totem of the Zhou clan, and the ubiquitous lotus pattern is precisely the reflection of the famous "Ai Lian".
Zhou Dunyi's "Lian" Jie has set a benchmark for people of future generations. At the same time, it is like a spring breeze and moisturizes the Zhou clan. Xianyang Lake Scenic Area
#chinatravel
We visited Xianyang Lake Scenic Area on a peaceful late afternoon, and the expansive waterway immediately enveloped us in a tranquil atmosphere. Stretching over 15 km along the Wei and Feng Rivers in central Xianyang, this modern eco-park blends lush wetlands, calm lake surfaces, and manicured green spaces. As we wandered along the lakeside pathways, the gentle rustle of willows and the soft reflections of floral blooms in the water brought a sense of calm. Dotted with Qing-style towers and cultural plazas, the park offers a seamless harmony of nature and history an ideal escape from the hustle of nearby urban life.
What struck us most was the area’s thoughtful emphasis on ecological balance and cultural heritage. Urban-engineered but nature-focused, the lake and its banks are framed by attractions like the ancient Gudu Corridor Bridge, Qingwei Tower, and the Gu Du ancient ferry museum all woven into the landscape without overwhelming it . Visitors meander through ecological corridors, flower gardens, and open squares that feel thoughtfully integrated rather than overdeveloped. If you’re seeking a place where nature, historical charm, and urban life converge in harmony, we would highly recommend Xianyang Lake Scenic Area—it’s a heartfelt reminder of how restoration, culture, and community can coexist beautifully.

Silk Road Happy World
#chinatravel
We visited Silk Road Happy World in Xi’an on a sunny weekend afternoon, and stepping into the park felt like opening a door into seven different worlds. The seven themed zones Roman glory, Grecian myth, Persian flair, Himalayan Ganges Valley, desert oasis, snowy Russia, and ancient China are seamlessly connected yet distinct in architecture, color, and ambiance. Walking from area to area, we marveled at how lifelike and immersive each section felt from winding Persian archways to Olympus-themed Greek facades. The atmosphere was lively but never overwhelming: families strolled, performers posed for photos, and ambient music tuned into each region’s character without drowning the space.
What we appreciated most was how the park skillfully blends culture, entertainment, and thoughtful design. Signature rides like the fly-through cinema “Fantasy Flight” in the Greek zone and the “Golden City Rafting” in the Ganges Valley offered thrilling yet immersive experiences rooted in Silk Road storytelling. Street performances and interactive exhibits drew us into the narrative of each themed zone, making waiting in line feel like exploration. Despite the scale and variety, the layout never felt cluttered and moving through the zones felt natural. If you’re seeking a day of entertainment steeped in cultural motifs and immersive experiences, we would highly recommend Silk Road Happy World. It’s a playful celebration of history and imagination in one unexpected place.

Xianyang Ancient Ferry Site
#chinatravel
We visited the Xianyang Ancient Ferry Site and the adjacent Ancient Ferry Museum during our time in the area, and it turned out to be one of the most unexpectedly fascinating stops. The ferry site itself sits quietly along the river, but it once served as a major crossing point connecting ancient Chang’an and the western regions. Standing there, we imagined the flow of merchants, soldiers, and messengers who once passed through, making this a key hub during the Qin and Han dynasties. Though not large in scale, the site holds a strong historical presence and offers a direct connection to the daily movements of ancient China.
Next to the site, the Ancient Ferry Museum helped fill in the story. We explored exhibits on water transport, trade routes, and local river culture. Models of ancient boats, historical documents, and reconstructed ferry scenes gave us a vivid picture of how vital this location was to regional development. It was quiet when we visited, which made it easy to move through at our own pace and really take everything in. If you’re interested in lesser-known but historically important places, we would absolutely recommend stopping by. It’s a meaningful detour that adds another layer to understanding Xianyang’s role in history.

Zhangyu Ruina Castle Winery
#chinatravel
We visited Zhangyu Ruina Castle Winery on a bright afternoon, and walking through the vineyards and castle grounds immediately felt like stepping into a peaceful European garden in the heart of Shaanxi. The Tuscan-inspired architecture with warm yellow walls, red roof tiles, and soft sunlight filtering through grapevines created a refined yet welcoming atmosphere. We strolled between lush rows of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Italian Riesling, pausing to breathe in the scent of ripening grapes and observe workers tending the vines with care. The space felt thoughtfully designed to honor both aesthetic tradition and agricultural sustainability.
What impressed us most was how the winery blends wine culture, leisure, and education without ever feeling gimmicky. In the cellar, we watched oak barrels arranged with precision beneath vaults of stone, then sampled their R888 Syrah and 60‑year old vine wines, both deep, elegant, and distinctive in flavor. We tried our hand at a brief grape‑pressing demo and personalized a wine label guided by a member of staff, making the experience hands-on and memorable. If you’re drawn to places where craftsmanship, landscape, and taste converge, we would highly recommend visiting Zhangyu Ruina Castle Winery. It delivers a refined, immersive experience grounded in both terroir and design.

Expo Garden
#chinatravel
We visited the Expo Garden at Northwest A&F University on a quiet afternoon and were immediately struck by how vibrant the place felt without ever seeming crowded. The sprawling collection of themed exhibitions winds through ponds, shaded groves, and gently rolling lawns. Inside the Insect and Butterfly Pavilions, hundreds of fluttering specimens and lifelike models brought the miniature world to life in vivid detail. As we strolled through the Tree and Herb Gardens, the air was surprisingly alive with scent and bird song, and natural pathways led us from one themed area to the next with ease. The atmosphere was engaging, educational, and refreshingly relaxed.
What stood out most was how seamlessly science, art, and leisure were integrated. The museums covering soils, animals, plants, and agricultural heritage felt modern but inviting, filled with colorful specimens and thought-provoking displays. Outside, visitors moved freely between flower beds, crop demonstrations, and butterfly nets without feeling confined. We paused by a bubbling fountain in the agricultural history zone, and later found ourselves sketching leaves in a quiet corner of the Tree Garden. If you’re seeking a place that combines thoughtful science communication with accessible beauty and calm public space, we would highly recommend the expo garden, it provides learning and reflection in equal measure.
Qin‑Han Pavilion
#chinatravel
We visited the Qin‑Han Pavilion at the Shaanxi History Museum on a quiet weekday afternoon, and it immediately drew us into the depth of ancient Chinese civilization. Walking into the main exhibition hall, we were immersed in a seamless blend of traditional artifacts and modern interactive displays that brought history vividly to life. From illuminated projections of ritual ceremonies to tactile panels explaining military reforms, every detail felt designed to engage and educate. The layout divided into thematic halls guided us through the evolution of politics, culture, art, and city life during the Qin and Han periods, offering both richness and clarity in the storytelling.
What stood out most was how accessible and reflective the experience felt. Despite the subject’s magnitude, the atmosphere remained calm and thoughtful rare for a new museum. We could linger by standout relics like the gilded silkworm or painted lantern-shaped lamp and reflect on their craftsmanship. The quieter side halls allowed us space to contemplate tomb architecture, technology, and social life centuries ago. If you have an interest in civilizational legacy presented with clarity and gravitas, we would highly recommend the Qin‑Han Pavilion it offers a meaningful connection to one of history’s defining eras.

Xianyang Museum
#chinatravel
We visited Xianyang Museum and were genuinely impressed by the depth and richness of its collection. Housed in a former Confucian temple, the museum itself is already full of character, with elegant courtyards and wooden halls that add to the sense of history. Inside, we explored artifacts mainly from the Qin and Han periods, including terracotta warriors, bronze wares, and beautifully preserved tomb relics. What stood out most were the detailed stone carvings and painted figurines from Han tombs—they felt incredibly vivid and gave us a deeper understanding of daily life and imperial rituals from over two thousand years ago.
The museum was not crowded, which allowed us to take our time and absorb the displays in a peaceful atmosphere. We found the layout clear and informative, with just enough explanation in English to guide international visitors. If you’re already in Xian or heading toward the Mausoleums nearby, we highly recommend adding Xianyang Museum to your route. It’s a compact but well-curated stop that helps bring the broader history of the region into focus.

Ming Xianyang City
#chinatravel
We explored the site of the ancient Ming Xianyang City and Phoenix Terrace during our visit, and it was a quiet yet powerful glimpse into the city’s layered past. The ruins may not be grand in scale, but standing on this land where imperial activity once thrived gave us a real sense of historical depth. Parts of the city walls and foundation structures are still visible, and with a bit of imagination, it’s easy to picture the once-bustling streets and administrative buildings that formed the political core of the Ming dynasty in this region. There’s something humbling about being surrounded by history that isn’t heavily commercialised or reconstructed.
Phoenix Terrace, just nearby, was a peaceful stop that offered a great vantage point over the surrounding area. Local legends tie it to the origins of Xianyang’s name, and we found it meaningful to stand at a place so tied to the city’s identity. There weren’t many visitors when we went, which made the experience even more personal and reflective. We’d recommend this spot for travelers who enjoy piecing together stories from quieter, lesser-known historical locations. It’s not far from the city and easy to visit together as a short cultural detour.

🍂 Autumn in Xi’an – A City Wrapped in Gold
If you’ve never seen Xi’an in autumn, you’re missing out on one of the most beautiful and peaceful seasons this historic city has to offer. I visited during late October and wow—Xi’an really knows how to show off when the leaves start to turn!
The weather was perfect—cool, crisp mornings and sunny afternoons that weren’t too hot or too cold. It’s that perfect hoodie-weather season. I could finally walk around without sweating or freezing, which made all the difference in exploring.
I started my autumn adventure with a stroll along the Ancient City Wall. The view from up there was magical—trees below painted in all shades of orange, yellow, and red. Locals were biking along the wall, couples taking selfies with the foliage, and the breeze just carried this calming, cozy vibe. If you're into photography or just love peaceful walks, autumn is the time to go.
Then I visited the Big Wild Goose Pagoda area, which was surrounded by golden ginkgo trees. It felt like walking through a fairytale. There’s something so calming about watching leaves slowly fall around ancient temples. Even the Tang Paradise Park looked extra dreamy with autumn colors reflected in the lake.
One of the best things? The crowds weren’t as crazy as in summer. It was easier to take pictures, get a good seat at local teahouses, and enjoy the local snacks without the long lines. Speaking of snacks—roasted chestnuts and sweet potatoes from street vendors hit different when it’s chilly out!
Even just walking through random neighborhoods like the Muslim Quarter or cycling around Qujiang Pool Park felt more special in autumn. The light is softer, the mood is quieter, and you get to see locals really enjoying the season too—flying kites, playing music in the parks, or just soaking in the sun.
If you're planning a trip to Xi’an and don’t mind packing a few layers, I highly recommend coming in autumn. It’s not just about the tourist spots—it’s the atmosphere, the golden light, the crunch of leaves under your shoes, and the way everything feels more relaxed. There’s beauty everywhere you turn.
Xi’an in autumn is the kind of experience that makes you slow down, breathe deeper, and smile at the little things. 🍁
