El Gran Palacio Many of the restaurants in Ollantaytambo are fashionable restaurants targeting Western tourists, but this restaurant is for locals and sits on the edge of the main square. It is not open at night, but it was still open when I visited at 3pm. The recommended lunch menu is the daily set. It comes with a soup of the day and a main course for an amazing 8 soles. It is always crowded with local residents, but there are seats on the second floor so you should be able to get in, but after lunchtime, some main menu items are sold out, so I recommend going early. I have tried several local restaurants and visited this restaurant twice, and both times I was satisfied. There is no English menu, so I recommend taking a picture of the today's menu posted outside and ordering by pointing at the waiter. The soup with lots of ingredients will fill you up, but it is the same price whether you add soup or not. Peruvian guides recommend Peruvian soups as being rich and delicious, so I hope you will enjoy different soups at various restaurants. The second photo is of deep fried trout. Sacred Valley is a valley between Cuzco and Machu Picchu. There are many important sites of Inca civilization in this area. If you take a one-day tour, you will usually visit 3 sites, terraces, salt pans and 2-3 rest stops showing traditional handicrafts. But we strongly do not recommend taking a one-day tour in Sacred Valley. It is even the worst tour experience we have in Central and South America. Because the process is very rushed, the stay time at the scenic spot is very short, especially the terraces and salt pans are usually the main photo spots when attracting guests, but they only stay for 5-10 minutes. Even our tour guide only let us see the salt pans on the far hillside viewing platform in order to rush, and did not go to the salt pans at all. The time spent at the rest stop may be longer than the time spent at the scenic spot😭So this route is recommended to charter a private group for a better visit experience. The town of Ollantaytambo is the outpost for everyone to Machu Picchu, and you will take the train here to Machu Picchu. There are also very important Inca sites in the town. Due to its prominent terrain, during the Spanish occupation, the Inca emperor used it as a base to resist the armed attacks of the Spaniards from Cuzco. The ruins have a large hinterland with terraces, the Temple of the Sun, granaries and military fortresses, most of which are made of large, neatly cut stones, which is very spectacular. To Machu Picchu! To go comfortably, you need to take PeruRail or IncaRail, but I chose PeruRail and took it :) The Oyanhoitambo-Machu Picchu one-way ticket costs a whopping 100,000 won, which is a huge price, but if you don't take the train, you'll have to take a 7-hour bus and a 3-hour trek, so we just took the train for both round trips with a big heart🚞 They say you can see beautiful scenery if you take it during the day, but I took it at night, so I couldn't see the scenery, and the train quality wasn't that great compared to the price,,,✨ It was a very old train, and it was my first time to make a sudden stop on a train,,^^ Still, I remember running for 1 hour and 30 minutes to Aguas Calientes with excitement about going to see Machu Picchu.
