Shikoku is the hometown of Kukai, the Great Master of Buddhism, and Zentsuji Temple is the birthplace of Kukai. Many tourists visit Zentsuji Temple as a pilgrimage site during the Shikoku Pilgrimage to pay their respects. Among the 88 sacred sites in Shikoku, sites 1 to 88 all have deep connections with Kobo Daishi. Kobo Daishi was born in Zentsuji, the 75th temple. You may think this number is strange, but the pilgrimage starts from Tokushima, passes through Kochi, Ehime, and finally reaches Kagawa, connecting all the prefectures of Shikoku into one "yen", which has nothing to do with the number. The pilgrimage does not need to be carried out according to the numbering. Those coming from afar can also start the pilgrimage from Zentsuji Temple. Among the 88 sacred sites in Shikoku, some are hidden in the hills or on the top of the mountain, some are on the coastline and beside the river, and some are hidden in the bamboo forest.
