Wintersweet in Daxingshan Temple

Daxingshan Temple is located at No. 55, Xiaozhai Xingshansi West Street, Xiaozhai Road, Yanta District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. Tickets: Free, no reservation required. Opening hours: 7:30 am–5:00 pm. Daxingshan Temple was built in the second year of the Taishi era of Emperor Wu of Jin (226 AD), originally named "Zunshan Temple". It has a history of more than 1,700 years and is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Xi'an. During the Kaihuang era of Emperor Wen of Sui, the city of Xi'an was expanded into Daxing City. The temple occupied the entire Jingshanfang in the city, and was renamed Daxingshan Temple after the city name "Daxing" and the fang name "Shan". It was a royal temple during the Sui and Tang dynasties, the ancestral temple of the "Tantric School", one of the "Eight Schools of Buddhism" in China, and one of the three major translation sites in Chang'an, the capital of the Sui and Tang dynasties. The temple buildings are a major attraction, with green tiles, golden halls, and ancient trees. The existing cultural relics include four Qing steles, three large Tibetan paintings, and the ruins of the Tang Dynasty revolving sutra hall. In 1956, Daxingshan Temple was listed as a key cultural relic protection unit in Shaanxi Province, and in 1983, it was listed as one of the key temples in China by the State Council.
