Fan Zhongyan was not a native of Wuxi, so why was the Fan Wen Zheng Gong Temple built in the ancient town of Huishan, Wuxi?

The Fan Wen Zheng Gong Temple is located on Heng Street in the ancient town of Huishan, Wuxi, and is a temple dedicated to Fan Zhongyan. His famous saying, "Worry before the world worries, and rejoice after the world rejoices," comes from his renowned essay "Yueyang Tower," which is now a well-known and classic saying. This temple, situated in the middle section of Zhijie Street in Huishan, covers an area of more than 1,300 square meters. It adopts the architectural style of the Song Dynasty, with a courtyard-style hall layout, rockeries, ponds, and water pavilions, which are typical of Jiangnan gardens. The first entrance of the temple is the gate hall, with six stone steles erected on both sides, inscribed with Fan Zhongyan's life story, the genealogy of the Fan family, and the historical evolution and construction process of the Fan Wen Zheng Gong Temple. The entire courtyard is quite large, exuding a strong scholarly atmosphere. Behind the Dunxu Hall is the "Hou Le Hall," with the "Yueyang Tower" written by Wen Zhengming in the center. At the turning point of the long corridor, there is a pavilion called "Xian You Pavilion," which, like the "Hou Le Hall," is named after the famous sentences from Fan Zhongyan's "Yueyang Tower." Now, when we savor these two sentences carefully, everything seems to become clear. Fan Zhongyan, courtesy name Xiwen, was originally from Binzhou (now Bin County, Shaanxi Province). He later moved to Wu County, Suzhou, and died at the age of 64 in Xuzhou, Jiangsu. He was posthumously honored with the title "Wen Zheng," and is known as Fan Wen Zheng Gong. Throughout his life, Fan Zhongyan served as an official in various places, including Jiangsu, but historical records do not indicate that he ever visited the ancient town of Huishan in Wuxi. According to historical records, the Fan Wen Zheng Gong Temple in Wuxi was first built in the fifth year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1740 AD) by Fan's descendants. Fan Zhongyan's great-grandfather, Fan Sui, once served as the county magistrate of Lishui, Zhejiang. Due to war, he could not return home and settled in Suzhou. One branch of Fan Sui's bloodline flowed into Wuxi. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Fan family in Wuxi, who share the same great-grandfather as Fan Zhongyan, built a temple in the ancient town of Huishan to commemorate Fan Wen Zheng Gong.
