Wuxi is truly an underrated Jiangnan treasure! Besides the well-known Taihu Yuantouzhu and Lingshan Buddha, there are many hidden and poetic corners here that even locals may miss. Here are a few of my favorite hidden gems that might make you want to buy a high-speed train ticket right away: 1. **"Underwater Forest" in Changguangxi** A dawn redwood secret spot in the southwest corner of Lihu Lake. In the fall, the dawn redwood forest is immersed in the clear water, and rowing a transparent boat through it feels like floating on emerald. The best experience is at 6am, when the water mist has not yet dissipated, making you feel like you've broken into the forest of Princess Mononoke. 2. **Xuelang Mountain Purple Waterfall** Every May, the entire hillside is dyed lavender purple like Provence, and the key is that there are few people! From Jiangzi Pavilion of the Song Dynasty on the top of the mountain, you can overlook the magical combination of Taihu Lake and the city skyline. 3. **Huishan Ancient Town's "Living Fossil" Teahouse** Use real Erquan water to make tea at the "Laosongquan" teahouse, and the flower windows on the second floor will frame the silhouette of the Longguang Pagoda. Watch improvisational performances by Xiju artists on rainy days, and time seems to stand still in the Republic of China. 4. **Nanquan Town "Abandoned Studio"** An abandoned film and television base by Taihu Lake, where Greek columns and Ming and Qing archways coexist strangely. At dusk, flocks of wild ducks fly over the dilapidated "Chang'an City," and you can easily take apocalyptic blockbusters.
