Rikugien Gardens was built in 1702 by Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu, who was trusted by Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, the fifth shogun of the Edo shogunate. This garden is based on the interest of waka poetry and is a daimyo garden with a "wandering style of building mountains and spring water (pond)". This garden is also a representative work of daimyo gardens in the Edo period. After entering the Meiji era, it became the villa of Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of Mitsubishi Corporation. It was later donated to Tokyo City by the Iwasaki family in 1938, and was designated as a special place of scenic beauty and a valuable cultural property by the country in 1953. #2024TravelReview
