[Tokyo National Museum, Main Building] The brilliance of stained glass is reflected on the marble

The Tokyo National Museum has a history spanning 150 years and houses an impressive collection of 120,000 items, including 89 national treasures and 650 important cultural properties. Exhibits change almost weekly, so you're always sure to encounter something new. The permanent exhibition halls are the Main Building, Heiseikan (with a special exhibition room on the second floor), Toyokan, and Gallery of Horyuji Treasures; the Hyokeikan, which is used for events; and the Kuroda Memorial Hall, located off the premises. I briskly toured the Main Building, Heiseikan, Toyokan, and Horyujikan, but it still took me about four hours. It's so large, it's quite tiring. While photography isn't permitted in special exhibitions, it is permitted in the permanent exhibitions, including national treasures and important cultural properties, which is very convenient. This is something you won't find at other museums, as you'd expect from a national museum. Taking photos helps you look back at them later, allowing you to better understand the exhibits and even make new discoveries. The main building's open-air entrance is impressive, with its marble staircase, wall clock, and stained glass. Apparently, the exhibits have also been used in commercials and dramas. I'll be writing separate articles introducing the exhibits at each museum. Location: Ueno Park, Tokyo Hours: 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM (until 8:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays) Closed: Mondays (Tuesdays if a national holiday falls on a Monday), New Year's holiday Admission: General Cultural Exhibition (Permanent Exhibition): 1,000 yen Special Exhibition: Varies depending on the contents (Permanent exhibitions are also open) *Tickets may have to be purchased in a line at the entrance, so it's convenient to purchase them online.
