Visit the Former Residence of Kinoshita Seigai

The 'Former Residence of Kinoshita Seigai in Tamsui' is a historical building in New Taipei City. This building, constructed around the late 19th century, was rented to the Japanese painter Kinoshita Seigai in 1923, who named it 'Seigai Villa.' He lived there until 1946 when he was forced to return to Japan after World War II. This two-story Western-style house was a place where Kinoshita enjoyed his life in Taiwan and developed his artistic style. Kinoshita, who was skilled in Nihonga (Japanese-style painting), served as a judge for the Taiwan Art Exhibition and the Governor-General's Art Exhibition in Taiwan. He was also enthusiastic about mentoring young artists, influencing the development of Nihonga in Taiwan during the Japanese era.
