A Taste of the Enchanting Fiordland!

Last week, I took a day trip to Fiordland National Park on New Zealand’s South Island with “Southern Discoveries”. It was an early start and a long drive but well worth it if you’re on a tight schedule and you want to see the Milford Sound. We made several stops for toilet breaks and coffee. We also stopped at some fantastic viewpoints to take pictures of the mountainous landscape. Upon entry into the national park, it was breathtaking. The mountains towered overhead and the rivers below were a wonderful blue as a result from the glacial waters. We pulled up to the edge of Milford Sound and boarded a small cruise boat. The boat took us along the sound and out into the Tasman Sea. Along the way, we pulled up close to two beautiful waterfalls. It was super refreshing as it was a hot day. On the way back, we saw some seals basking in the afternoon sun. We also stopped at the underwater observatory to view life below the surface. It was fascinating to see the various fish and sea creatures in their natural habitat. Finally, we pulled back into the wharf and began the long drive back towards Queenstown. I would suggest spending more time around Fiordland if you have a car and more time. Te Anau is a nearby town where you can base yourself.
