[Ulugh Beg Observatory] This is the site of one of the world's largest astronomical observation devices, and you can see a huge stone quadrant that remains underground. It's said that in the 15th century, the equipment here was used to calculate the solar year with an error of less than one minute. The beautiful building is a museum, and displays star catalogs, reproductions of astronomical equipment, models of observation facilities, and excavated items. The highlight of the museum is the 7th century fresco on display in the room just inside the entrance. ✨ It depicts a wedding procession and Koreans and Chinese coming to trade, giving a glimpse of the glamorous atmosphere of the time. I was watching an English explanatory video on the first floor when I was called up to the second floor, and even though I was alone, they played the Japanese version. ❤️ Behind the museum is where the city of Samarkand once stood.
