Pohutu Geyser: A stunning natural wonder and a chance to experience the power of geothermal energy

#September2025 Pohutu Geyser, located in Te Puia on New Zealand's North Island, is one of the largest geysers in the country. When we arrived at the geyser, many tourists were already gathered in the surrounding viewing area, waiting for the eruption. While there's no fixed eruption schedule, it averages one to two eruptions per hour, depending on the underground water vapor pressure. We were lucky enough to witness the geyser eruption. As the water column continued to rise, steam billowed, instantly forming a 30-meter-high curtain of water, a truly breathtaking sight. After watching the eruption, we rested on a stone bench located on site. Sitting there, we could directly feel the geothermal heat, a warmth coursing through our bodies, as if we were deeply connected to the power of the land. It's worth noting that after visiting the geyser, the smell of sulfur inevitably lingered on us.
