Waterfalls, Craters, and The Blue Lagoon: Six Must-See Spots in Iceland 🇮🇸 🌋

Iceland, the fire and ice, is a North Atlantic country like no other. Outside of the small capital of Reykjavik, you’ll find countless waterfalls, geysers, and volcanoes. Here are my recommendations for a 4 day visit to Reykjavik: 1️⃣ Waterfall Hunting Gullfoss Waterfall and Skógafoss Waterfall are two of the most spectacular waterfalls I’ve ever seen and both are in close proximity to Reykjavik. Gullfoss is the larger of the two and the sheer force of the water here is heart stopping. Another popular waterfall is Seljalandsfoss. Here, you’ll be able to walk behind the cascading water to take some cool photos! 2️⃣ Geyser Geothermal Area Drive through the dramatic volcanic landscape before reaching the Geyser Geothermal Area. Bring your camera and set up close to Strokkur as this geyser erupts approximately every ten minutes. 3️⃣ Kerið Crater Walk around a volcanic caldera before walking down to the aquamarine waters of the lake below. The landscape is beautiful as the red rock of the caldera contrast with the lake water and surrounding greenery. It’s a true paradise for nature lovers. 4️⃣ The Blue Lagoon No trip to Iceland is complete without a couple of hours at The Blue Lagoon. Purchase a package and you’ll get to sample some Icelandic facial scrubs which are full of minerals. The packages also come with a complimentary drink. You’ll leave the lagoon feeling clean and refreshed. 5️⃣ Black Sand Beach Featuring basalt columns and sea stacks, Iceland’s Black Sand Beach is a nature photography lovers dream. Black sand stretches in all directions as the coast is battered by Atlantic waves. Be careful not to get too close to the water as it’s one of the most dangerous beaches in the world! 6️⃣ Reykjavik Reykjavik is a city that’s surrounded by breathtaking nature. But don’t skip out on exploring the city itself. Most of the attractions are centered around the small city core. Take in the city view from the top of the Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral before walking down the famous rainbow road. Drop into the Hand Knitting Association of Iceland to pick up one of the famous Icelandic Sweaters. If you’re feeling hungry, go to Café Loki and sample some shark! 🏨 Where to Stay: Finding affordable accommodation in Iceland can be challenging, but it’s not impossible. I chose Hotel Cabin because of its proximity to the center and the tasty buffet breakfast. 🦪Where to Eat: 🦈 Café Loki 🌭 Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur 🥪 Sandholt 🍦 Loo.koo.mas #trip #wanderlust #localguides #explore #exploresgtogether #travel #travelphotography #iceland #nature #reykjavik
