Amdo, meaning "Thousand Soldiers Outpost" in Tibetan, is also known as Niuxin Mountain in Chinese. It is located 9 kilometers southeast of Qilian County. It is the king of the Qilian Mountains, with its northern slope covered in snow year-round, rugged bedrock, dense spruce in the middle section, and vast grasslands at the lower section. The scenic area features gurgling streams, misty clouds, lush pines and cypresses, and verdant meadows. It is rich in flora and fauna, maintaining a pristine ecosystem.
