Puerto Varas, Chile

Puerto Varas is located on the western shore of the southernmost tip of Lake Llanquihue, the second largest lake in Chile, and is one of the most beautiful cities in Chile. Between 1846 and 1914, approximately 30,000 people immigrated to Chile, most of them following the revolutions in the German states in 1848. As part of the government's colonial project at the time, the area known as the "Lake Lanquihue Colony" was created on June 27, 1853, and the city was named after the then Secretary of the Interior. By the end of 1853, the first 212 German families immigrated to Puerto Varas, and it became a popular tourist city for Germans. The city is known for its German cultural traditions, its natural surroundings, and as a tourist destination. It enjoys a scenic location close to mountains, lakes, forests and national parks.
