[Osaka] Shinmei Shrine, Sakai City

#AbsolutelyFreeTravel Shinmei Shrine, located near the south exit of Sakai Station, was built in 1849 by Sakai Magistrate Mizuno Wakasa-no-kami, who prayed for the town's prosperity and development. He ordered the worship of the local guardian deities and enshrined Amaterasu Omikami and Toyouke Omikami as the main deities. Since a total of 16 deities are enshrined, including Amaterasu Omikami and Toyouke Omikami, the shrine is known as Sakai's Oise Shrine. The following year, in 1948, the shrine building was completed, and a grand festival was held. Most of the buildings on the grounds were destroyed in a massive air raid in 1945. Over 50 years later, a new shrine building was built in 1997 as part of postwar restoration, and the grounds were renovated. You can also get a climbing certificate for Mt. Sotetsu (Japan's lowest mountain, home to a first-class triangulation point), located in nearby Ohama Park, at the shrine office. It's basically self-service, so all you need to do is drop a donation in the offering box.
