Visit Ningbo! See the paradigm of Yingzao Fashi with your own eyes

Ever since I got into ancient architecture, I have to search for and visit these amazing things left by our ancestors on every trip. So when I came to Ningbo, I couldn't miss Baoguo Temple, the "No. 1 Ancient Building in Jiangnan" hidden in Lingshan. Dating back to the Song Dynasty, it is a paradigm of Yingzao Fashi, with a very complete overall preservation and very typical design in every part, full of highlights: [Hollowed-out caisson] Some say it was made hollowed-out and spiral to cover the beams of the main hall for aesthetic reasons, turning the main hall into a beamless, spacious space. Some scholars believe that these caissons can prevent insects, termites, and moths, because they make sounds when air flows through them, thus driving away mosquitoes. In short, amazing! [Ribbed columns] Also for aesthetic reasons, the columns are combined to look like flower columns through inlaying and other processes, while saving wood and being environmentally friendly. In short, amazing! [Seven red and eight white] On the beams, exactly the same as written in Yingzao Fashi, I was amazed to see the real thing after reading the book. In short, amazing! [Easter egg] There is a "mandarin duck" dougong at the back of the main hall, one square and one round, I don't know if it was intentional or unintentional, but I got the feeling of the round sky and square earth. There are also very professional dougong and so on, too many to count. In addition to appreciating the real objects in the main hall, there are several exhibition halls behind the hall for everyone to study and research. Even if you haven't studied or learned about it before coming to Baoguo Temple, you can get all the answers through the exhibition, which I personally think is very nice.
