Good places to go in January | Palamiti Castle: a Baroque military fortress in southern Greece

The fortress was an ambitious and large-scale project, built in just a few years (1711 to 1714). The castle presents a typical Baroque style. In 1715, the Turks captured the fortress and controlled it until 1822, when it was successfully conquered by the Greeks. Today, the castle fortress is located on a 216-meter-high mountain ridge, and tourists who want to visit need to climb up the stone steps. From the castle, you can overlook the entire town and surrounding scenery and feel the military atmosphere of that year. Tickets for Palamidi Castle cost 4 euros for adults in low season (November to March) and 8 euros in high season (April to October).
