The "Andong Tunnel" is a place where going down is easy and getting back up is very difficult.

#NovemberDestinations2025 Antong Tunnel is located on Dongyin Island in the Matsu Islands. Built in 1972, the tunnel traverses an entire mountain and served as a military assembly tunnel. Entering the tunnel requires navigating a slope of about 30 degrees. The tunnel is damp and slippery, with two separate walkways; using the stairs is recommended for safety. There are several external openings inside the tunnel. Besides providing light, these openings were originally artillery firing ports, but the artillery has now been removed. The sea views from these windows are beautiful! The tunnel is fully equipped with military facilities, including living quarters for the troops and even pigsties.
