[Chiba Tourism] Nokogiriyama: An adventurous journey combining spectacular views and history

Be moved by the view of hell and be overwhelmed by Japan's largest stone Buddha Mt. Nokogiri is a 329-meter-high mountain located in the Minami Boso region of Chiba Prefecture. It was named after its unique saw-blade-like shape. It has a history of being used as a stone quarry since the Edo period, and traces of this can still be seen in the mountains. 📍Mt. Nokogiri 🚃From Hamakanaya Station on the JR Uchibo Line, it is about a 10-minute walk to the base station of the Nokogiriyama Ropeway. It takes about 4 minutes to reach the summit 🚗From Kyonan Hota IC on the Tateyama Expressway via the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, it is about 15 minutes. There is a parking lot at the base of the mountain ⭐️View of Hell This is a cliff observation deck near the summit, and is popular as a scenic spot with a panoramic view of Tokyo Bay and Mt. Fuji. It is called "View of Hell" because of its thrilling view. ⭐️Nihon-ji Temple This Soto Zen temple is located on the southern slope of Mt. Nokogiri and has a history of about 1,300 years. Many Buddhist statues are scattered around the temple grounds, including the 31-meter-tall Yakushi Nyorai statue, one of the largest stone Buddha statues in Japan, and the Hyakushaku Kannon statue. ⭐️Stone Quarry Site There are many traces of quarrying that have continued since the Edo period in the mountains, creating an atmosphere like an ancient ruin. In particular, the sheer rock wall, also known as the "Laputa Wall," fascinates visitors. ⚠️Mt. Nokogiri has many steep slopes and stairs, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes. Also, depending on the weather, visibility may be poor, so it is a good idea to check the weather forecast in advance. Mt.
