Traditional Chinese Village ~ Xiemachiao Village in Kunshan

After visiting Zhuhang Village in Kunshan, I came to Xiemachiao Village in Qiandeng Town in the afternoon. This is also the third batch of traditional Chinese villages in Kunshan. The village features typical Jiangnan architecture with blue bricks, small tiles, horse-head walls, hanging corridors, and lattice windows. The water street is adjacent, with narrow alleys and deep lanes. The ancient town has a 500-meter-long stone road, with two-story houses along the river, most of which are now used as cafes and cultural and creative shops. Especially the cafes, almost all have chairs by the river. Most people enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, chatting and playing cards, as if this is a relaxed lifestyle. Walking in the ancient alleys, the mottled wooden doors and white walls, and the old houses with pink walls and black tiles are within reach, as if traveling through time. Han Shizhong has 'moved into' the original primary school building that was recently vacated, becoming a memorial hall. However, this village seems a bit different because there are basically no villagers inside. Some old houses are closed and deserted. Where have the villagers gone? Only at the entrance did I see a small market where villagers were selling their agricultural products.
