The Kunshan Opera Museum of Hundred Plays

The 2023 Opera Festival of Hundred Plays (Kunshan) grandly opened at the Opera Museum of Hundred Plays. This museum is the first in China to gather 348 types of operas, comprehensively displaying the development and characteristics of Chinese opera. The museum integrates functions such as opera-themed collection, exhibition, teaching and research, and performance, creatively showcasing the relationship between the new and the old, and highlighting historical value. Its design combines regional context and opera culture, with a light and continuous roof, exquisite wooden structures, gentle water features, and extended arch bridges, creating the spatial intention of a water town. The museum has four major permanent exhibition halls, fully displaying the profoundness of Chinese opera. This project will promote the overall development of the Kunqu Town, achieving the integration of cultural display and tourism experience.
