Isozaki Beach

Isozaki Beach is located along Highway 11 in Fengbin Township, Hualien. It is one of the rare sandy beaches on the east coast, stretching for 3 kilometers. The beach presents different appearances depending on the season: in summer, the golden sands extend during low tide, while in winter, the rising tide turns the beach black due to the upwelling of underwater sand and stones, creating a unique landscape. In the past, the Amis people called this place 'Jialulan,' and it was used as a natural salt field. It is now a settlement for the Sakizaya tribe, who hold a festival every March that combines mountain and sea deities. The natural bay here was formed by the differential erosion of volcanic breccia and sandstone shale, creating a rich ecosystem. Visitors can observe coastal plants such as pandanus and yellow hibiscus, as well as marine life like lobsters and surgeonfish. The nearby 'Dashibi Mountain Trail' is about 910 meters long, with scenic pavilions along the way. From the summit, one can overlook the Pacific Ocean and the stunning mountain and sea views of Isozaki Bay, making it a top choice for family eco-hiking. Note that in recent years, typhoons and ocean currents have caused significant sand drift, exposing rock formations and pebbles in some areas, making it unsuitable for swimming. It is recommended to engage in floating water activities instead. Currently, some facilities are temporarily closed due to post-disaster reconstruction, so it is advisable to check the latest announcements before visiting.
