Peace, Culture, and Island Adventures: 48 Hours in Hiroshima 🇯🇵⛩️

Hiroshima is a vibrant city in western Japan, best known as the first city in the world to suffer an atomic bombing. Easily accessible from Tokyo and Osaka, Hiroshima offers a quieter atmosphere with fewer tourists, friendly locals, and fantastic food. Here are my recommendations for a weekend in Hiroshima: 1️⃣ Miyajima Island This island is a must-visit from Hiroshima. While you can take a ferry directly from the Peace Memorial Park, it’s more economical to take the tram to Miyajimaguchi ferry terminal and then transfer to a ferry to the island. The island is known for its floating torii gate, wild deer, and lush hiking trails up Mount Misen. After exploring the island, explore the streets and sample local specialties like grilled oysters and momiji manju - maple-leaf-shaped cakes with sweet fillings. Tip: Get to Miyajima Island early as it gets very crowded later in the day. The ferries start early and run until late evening. 2️⃣ Peace Memorial Park A powerful symbol of peace, this park stands as a reminder of what happened - and what should never happen again. Begin at the Peace Memorial Museum to learn about the bombing, then walk to the Atomic Bomb Dome. Other sites inside the park include the Children’s Peace Monument and the Cenotaph for the victims. 3️⃣ Hondori Street Hondori Street is Hiroshima’s main shopping street and entertainment center. It’s a long, covered pedestrian street lined with cafés, restaurants, and shops. The street connects the Peace Park with other areas of the city. After shopping and eating, explore the nearby alleys for some excellent photography opportunities. 🏨 Where to Stay: Hotel Livemax Hiroshima (Heiwa Koen-Mae) is situated right across the river from the Peace Memorial Park. It’s also less than a 10-minute walk to Hiroshima Bus Terminal. The rooms are spacious and the environment is quiet. 🍱 Where to Eat: 🍜Nagataya (Excellent Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki) 🍣 Sushiro 🦪 Yakigaki No Hayashi (Miyajima) 🍪 Hakataya (Miyajima) #trip #tripmoments #hiroshima #japan #japantrip #exploresgtogether #localguides #historicallandmarks #travel
