Gibraltar: The Mysterious Land

Gibraltar, covering an area of approximately 6 square kilometers, is located to the north of Spain's Andalusia province of Cadiz. It is the only region where the UK shares a land border with mainland Europe. The Rock of Gibraltar is one of the main landmarks of Gibraltar. The population of Gibraltar is concentrated in the southern part of the region, housing over 30,000 people, including Gibraltarians and other ethnic groups. Since the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, when Spain ceded the territory to the UK, Gibraltar has remained a British territory. However, Spain has continuously claimed sovereignty over the area. In 2009, the number of locally born residents reached 23,907, including 3,129 British immigrants and 2,395 people from other ethnic groups, bringing the total population to 31,623.
