Ghent: Fairytale Vibes & Canal Strolls 🇧🇪 Part 3

After a spontaneous detour to Amsterdam, we arrived in Ghent at night, checked into our hotel, and got some much-needed rest. The next morning, we were ready to explore this hidden gem of Belgium before catching an evening bus to Bruges. 🏰 Medieval Charms & Morning Walks Ghent feels like stepping into a fairytale town with its canals, stone bridges, and towering castles. We started our day wandering through the Graslei and Korenlei, two historic streets lining the river, where the reflections of medieval buildings on the water made for a picture-perfect scene. 🏯 Climbing the Belfry of Ghent One of the highlights was visiting the Belfry of Ghent, a UNESCO-listed tower offering panoramic views of the city. The climb was worth it, and seeing Ghent from above made us appreciate its blend of history and modern life even more. ⚔️ Gravensteen Castle: A Step Back in Time Next, we visited Gravensteen Castle, a medieval fortress right in the heart of the city. Exploring its stone corridors and learning about its history (which includes dungeons and old torture devices!) gave us a deeper sense of Ghent’s past as a powerful medieval city. ☕ Relaxing by the Canals After all the walking, we took a break at a riverside café, sipping on Belgian coffee and watching the boats glide by. Ghent has a much more relaxed vibe than Brussels or Bruges, making it the perfect place to slow down and soak in the atmosphere. 🍽 Belgian Flavors Before Leaving Before heading to Bruges, we had to try some classic Belgian dishes—so we grabbed a plate of waterzooi (a creamy Flemish stew) and, of course, more Belgian fries! As the evening approached, we picked up our bags and made our way to the bus station, off to Bruges for the next adventure.
