Gaozhou urban scenery.

Gaozhou, also known as Panzhou, belongs to Maoming City, Guangdong Province. It is located in the southwest of Guangdong Province, bordering the South China Sea in the east, Jianjiang Plain in the south, Guangxi in the west, and Yunkai Mountain in the north. As of 2021, Gaozhou City has 23 towns under its jurisdiction, There are 5 streets and the total administrative area is 3,276 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, the regional GDP (preliminary calculation) will be 72.568 billion yuan, and the permanent population will be 1.3261 million. Gaozhou City is an important small and medium-sized city in China's Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration, a strong economic county (city) in the mountainous areas of Guangdong Province, and a strong educational county (city) in Guangdong Province. It was once rated as "Advanced Unit in China's Law-Based County (City, District) Creation Activities". The place name "Gaozhou" probably evolved from "Gaoliang County". It is said that Gaoliang County was named after Gaoliang Ridge in Yintang, Caojiang Town, Gaozhou City today. "Minutes of Reading History Fang Yu" records: "Gaoliang Mountain, whose original name is Gaoliang, is named Gaoliang because of the dense mountains and midsummer like autumn." Gaozhou was officially named in the Liang Dynasty of the Southern Dynasty. In the ninth year of Emperor Kaihuang's reign in the Sui Dynasty (589), Dianbai County and Haichang County were abolished and Dianbai County was established. Lianjiang and Nanba counties were abolished and Lianjiang County and Nanba County were established, under the jurisdiction of Gaozhou. The seat of Gaozhou remained in Gaoliang County. (Today Yangjiangxi). In the fifth year of Kaibao's reign in the Song Dynasty (872), the prefecture was abolished and the county belonged to Gaozhou. In the first year of Jingde (1004), it belonged to Douzhou. In three years (1006), it still belonged to Gaozhou. Yuanfu belonged to Gaozhou, and in the eighth year of Dade (1304), he came to Gaozhou Road to govern (Maoming County). During the Republic of China, the prefecture (Gaozhou Prefecture) was removed and the county (Maoming County) was left. Maoming County is the main body of today's Gaozhou City. In November 1958, Maoming County and Xinyi County were merged into Maoxin County. In December, Maoxin County was renamed Gaozhou County. In June 1993, the county was removed and a city was established, and Gaozhou County was changed to Gaozhou City, which was managed by Maoming City. In December of the same year, a formal ceremony was held to remove the county and establish a city.
