Wat Phan Tao, Chiang Mai Wat Phan Tao, or as Chiang Mai locals call it, Wat Pan Tao, is another ancient temple in Chiang Mai city. It stands out with its royal chapel, which is made entirely of golden teak wood, with intricate and beautiful carvings. It is considered the only remaining chapel built from the Royal Hall, and is the most complete and beautiful in Lanna. Behind the Royal Hall is the temple’s principal pagoda, which is a bell-shaped structure on an octagonal base, surrounded by pagodas that are brightly golden and beautiful. If you visit Chiang Mai during an important festival, you will see a beautiful ceremony, the offering of candles, which is held on four major Buddhist holy days a year: Makha Bucha Day, Visakha Bucha Day, Asalha Bucha Day, and Loi Krathong Day. Buddhist monks and novices perform the floating of candles, which shine brightly around the temple. There are many tourists visiting.
