Fall in love with science!❣️ A journey through life and culture at the Melbourne Museum Located in Carlton Gardens in central Melbourne, the Melbourne Museum is a magnificent world where nature, science, history, and culture intertwine. This time, I spent a day exploring some of the most impressive exhibits. ⸻ A Challenge to Protect the Future: A DNA Preservation Project for Endangered Species The first exhibit that caught my eye was the scientific project to preserve the DNA of endangered species. It introduced Australian native animals like the Tasmanian devil and the platypus, and explained the workings of the latest gene bank and the "Frozen Ark" project. It was moving to think about how DNA could serve as a "time capsule of life" and connect us to the future. ⸻ A Miniature Sparkle of the Universe: An Insect Specimen Exhibition Next, I visited the exhibition area lined with rows of insect specimens. The wings of the butterflies and beetles shone like jewels in the light, captivating me. There are plenty of features even children can enjoy, such as lenses that let you experience compound eyes and devices that reproduce the sound of wings. I was reminded once again of the important role insects play in supporting the ecosystem. The thoroughness with which they even observed insects attached to stuffed specimens is impressive! ⸻ A Journey into an Ancient World - Dinosaur Fossil Exhibit Entering the exhibition hall, gigantic dinosaur skeletons fill the entire field of view. The long neck of a Mamenchisaurus, the sharp teeth of a carnivorous dinosaur...the scale is overwhelming. There was a video introducing the process from fossil excavation to restoration, as well as an excavation experience corner, making me feel like I was on an adventure in ancient lands. Other exhibits included the geological and paleontological history of Melbourne, which made me imagine the original landscape of Victoria in the age of the dinosaurs after leaving the museum. ⸻ Feeling the Breath of Culture - Indigenous Culture Exhibit Next, I visited the "First Peoples" gallery. Exhibiting boomerangs, canoes, traditional textiles, and ornaments, visitors were able to experience the rich culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The video and music presentations were immersive, and I was deeply moved by the continued presence of this living culture. ⸻ Forest Gallery: A Forest in the City Our final stop was the Forest Gallery, a living forest within the museum. Stepping into the space, with its streams, waterfalls, eucalyptus trees, and ferns, felt like strolling through a real rainforest.
