Cangzhou is a city in Hebei with a unique charm. The South Grand Canal flows through the city, giving rise to a rich canal culture and unique folk customs. Departing from Tianjin, it takes about 40 minutes by high-speed rail to reach Cangzhou West Railway Station, where you can start your one-day tour of Cangzhou. 1. Qingfeng Tower Located next to the Jiefang Bridge on the South Grand Canal, historical records indicate it was built during the Jin Dynasty. The original tower no longer exists. The current tower was rebuilt in 1992. 2. Nanchuan Tower Located on the banks of the South Grand Canal within Nanchuan Old Street. Built in the Ming Dynasty, it had fallen into ruins by the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. The current tower was rebuilt in 2021. 3. Langyin Tower Also located in Nanchuan Old Street, not far from Nanchuan Tower. The construction date is not recorded, but it had collapsed by the mid-to-late Qing Dynasty. The current tower was rebuilt in 2021. 4. China Grand Canal Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall Located in Cangzhou Garden Expo Park, it showcases the folk customs and culture of eight provinces and cities along the Grand Canal. Free admission with online reservation. 5. Dahua Industrial Heritage Cultural Park Formerly the Cangzhou Fertilizer Plant, the original site has been transformed into an industrial-style park. Visitors can climb the stairs to admire the huge industrial facilities up close. Free admission. 6. Cangzhou Museum Showcases the local history and folk culture of Cangzhou. Free admission with online reservation. 7. Shicheng Park, Cangzhou Iron Lion (Replica) The Cangzhou Iron Lion, also known as Zhenhai Hou, was cast in 953 AD. The original iron lion is located in Cang County, dozens of kilometers away, and there was no opportunity to see it this time. However, there is a replica in Shicheng Park in the city. 8. Cangzhou Confucian Temple Built in the early Ming Dynasty, it is the only remaining ancient building with Ming Dynasty beam-and-bracket structure in Cangzhou city. Free admission. 9. Cangzhou Catholic Church Built in 1902, it is a Catholic church in Cangzhou city. 10. Cangzhou Qingzhen North Grand Mosque Located in the Muslim residential area on Jiefang East Road, it was founded in the early Ming Dynasty and completed in 1420. The first Chinese translation of the Quran was born here. The mosque courtyard is open to visitors, but the prayer hall is not.
