Wat Phra Nang, the Royal Temple in Bangkok, Thailand

#Thailand Attractions Wat Phra Nang is a royal temple located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Nonthaburi Province, Bangkok. It was built in 1610 and was supported by the King of Thailand during the Ayutthaya period until the late 19th century. By the early 20th century, the temple had fallen into disrepair and was nearly abandoned. It began to be revived between 1916 and 1959, with Chong Song Trong taking over as abbot of Wat Phra Nang in 1960. However, it was not until Chong Song Trong was appointed as the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand in 2015 that it made international headlines and new temples and pagodas were built. Wat Phra Nang is the largest member of the Mahadevilla brotherhood of Theravada Buddhism in Thailand and Cambodia, and the origin of the Dhammakaya lineage. More than 90% of monks in Thailand are members of this organization. The Dhammapada was founded in 1833 by the then monk Prince Mongkut. A few decades later, all monks who had not received Dhammapada precepts were considered part of the Mahaparinirvana. Thus, most monks in Thailand belong more or less by default to the Mahadevilla, which itself did not initially establish any particular practices or views as characteristic of adherence to its creed. There are actually hundreds of different Mahadevs throughout Thailand, grouped together as the "Mahadev Brotherhood".
